Our postmaster, Ursula, retired last week. I miss her - she's a swell gal. She is devoted to Guadalupe. I would love to get some beeeeeautiful mail art for her. If you send a Guadalupe mail art card to Ursula c/o me I will enter your name in a drawing for a beeeautiful Guadalupe shrine made by me! if I am so lucky to get more than 10 of you interested in this project I will hold multiple drawings so that your odds of winning will be better.
let's say all cards should be received by June 10....

I'm in, and I'll send the card along with the stamped images, so the sooner you'd PM me what kind of images you're interested at - the better :P
This is such a nice gesture :)

Where do we send them?

meika dear: please send them to me PO BOX 523 Dixon NM 87527. I'm not telling her about this and I don't feel comfortable putting her PO box up without permission.
thanks so much :D
nuKKe  - yi ( or is it spelled eeee - it's a local expression that is so satisfying to say ;) ) I don't know what stamps you might have. I would love anything to do with making dolls, hearts and oddities I guess. and for your stamped images - coffee I don't have any brown - hmmmmm unless I tried paint - I wonder
thanks so much both of you for doing this

I have to get out from under my current pile but then I will give it a whirl. I'm sure I can come up with something or other that she might like. :)

I just saw this thread (haven't been in the forums much at all for *months*) and would like to participate. Mine really wouldn't be mail art, but I *can* send a nice color photocopy of an 8 x 10" Guadalupan watercolor I did in March (the original I sent to my sister in Indiana). And since I live only a couple of miles from the original Virgin of Guadalupe shrine here in Mexico City, I will put in some postcards from there, too. Would that be okay? I will send it tomorrow from the main post office downtown, and that way it would more probably reach you before June 10th. I'll go ahead and do this unless you tell me not to. I mean, if you really only want mail art, I will understand.
What a nice thing you are doing for this lady! :-)

Our Lady of Guadalupe came to mind is this what you are talking about?

Yes, Jackie. Virgin of Guadalupe = Our Lady of Guadalupe = the Virgin Mary in her advocation of Guadalupe (i.e., as she appeared to Indian Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill -- just a couple of miles from me :) ) in 1532. The Shrine I mentioned is the most-visited Catholic place in the world outside of the Vatican.
Marķa de Guadalupe, with the nickname Lupita, is the most common girls' name here in Mexico; she is an integral part of daily life here. Apparently the Virgin of Guadalupe also has a sizeable following in the southwest USA (like New Mexico, where reddirtrose is located), where there a large percentage of the people are of Mexican origin.

Okay, reddirtrose, I'll be heading to the p.o. in a little while to get this mailed! :) And I'm throwing in a few extra Guadalupe postcard images for you, too, because I know you will put them to good use. ;) Please, you don't have to send me anything in return; I'm just happy that something I have might make someone else's day.
By the way, Guadalupe is purportedly the only apparition of Our Lady in which she appears pregnant. For this reason and others, she is considered Patroness of the Unborn.
The link below with take you to a scan of my watercolor, in case anyone is interested. It is of Mary at the Annunciation (when the Holy Spirit came over her and she became pregnant with Jesus). I have dressed her in the traditional Guadalupe "outfit" -- blue cape with stars, red dress with white cuffs and collar, etc. Her arms are open to receive whatever God sends, as she says, "Let it be done unto me according to your word."
The painting was done for my sister, on the occasion of her doing the Louis de Montfort consecration to Mary (see http://www.memorare.com/mary/totalcons.html if you want to know what that is) this past March 25th, which is the Feast of the Annunciation.
Guadalupan Annunciation:

p.s. How do I make it so that, instead of the url of the image, the image itself shows up here in my post? Just wondering for future reference.

I'll be sending mine after I get back on Thursday. It will be late so I'll add the finishing touches and mail it on Friday or Saturday at the latest..
I have some teeny bits to add under Guadalupe but here is what it looks like so far. I don't know why my scans always look so crappy. *frown* It actually folds shut and the cross on the outside is raised but you get the idea right? :) When folded shut the whole thing is only about 3 1/2 inches long and 1 1/3 inches wide. It will fit nicely in her pocket.

Meika - it's a beautiful shrine! I'm planning on getting you into a shrine exchange once I have more time in my hands.
Mary - it's funny, cos I used to look for Guadalupe items in the Christian Quarter. She is not known here and the only thing I found was a horrendous picture in a plastic frame with red lights surrounding her. Battary operated, and of course I bought it!
Our Lady Fatima is the popular Marian incarnation in this part of the world...
