i have 5. first come, first served. despite all the cliquey stuff which i don't like either, i do like lj. i also like diary-x - have one of those, too, but i haven't updated that in like forever. and yes, i pay for lj - i like the fast servers and extras and i don't mind paying for the goodies. (stephen - remember that for here and for diary-x - with other features, i'd be more inclined to post there and i only pay two months at a time at lj, so fickle me would move, just fyi)

I don't mean to hijack this thread and talk about diary-x, but what goodies are you most interested in? The biggest features I've got on my radar are web-based email and built-in comments (which I'll most likely implement using forums); most of the other stuff on dx is bugfixes, enhancements, etc.

If there's something you'd like to see on diary-x that we don't currently offer, let me know, and I'll put it on my radar.

JustSu...what IS a live journal code?

I don't have a blog of any kind and don't want one, but I've been curious about this.

You need a code in order to get your very own livejournal. I like lj because it's got everything all laid out for me. I have a diary-x, but I've never used it because I suck with code and stuff and I forget it about, though I have had a couple offers of help (which I really should accept). I need everything set up for me so all I have to do is blog it. (went off on a tanget there, didn't i? hehe)

Live Journal drives me insane.

Not even because of the whole silly code thing and all the other annoying features it has, but just because every time i go to a LJ it seems to take 57 years to load.

Granted I am one of the few spods out here who still use dial-up, but I'm poor and this is what's free for me.

I'll take a diary-x anyday. I think most people use livejournal and other more popular online journal sites because they are more known, and so they just don't give d-x a shot. Once they do, however, I know very few who don't prefer it over everything else.

Okay, that wasn't a kiss up. If you know me, you know how much I adore my diary-x.

stephen, it's been so long since i did anything with diary-x that i can't answer off the top of my head. i'll go poke around and see if i can remember what it was. i do remember that i like being able to have the cute little animated mood thingies in different styles.

i've browsed through some peoples' LJs - and not trying to bash here - but one thing that puts me off the service is how aestheticaly-challenged the comments page is. i don't think users have control over how this page looks like, right?

a user might have a perfectly designed journal but when you want to read other peoples' comments... bam! not so err pretty page.

which is okay by me cause i'm html-dumb lol

i don't like that either, shafina. i like pretty.

stephen, the ability to leave comments is one thing i like about lj that diary-x doesn't have. other things - the mood indicators, as i mentioned. with diary-x it's pretty tough to figure out how to modify the templates (and there aren't very many of them). of course i really shouldn't speak there, because the wondermous jadestar did my lj page, and meli said she'd fiddle around with my diary-x page, way back in august, but since i wasn't keeping it up, that seemed rather pointless. i love meli's diary-x, btw. the frame thing is a bother, but you've got a note up that you're going to fix that. let's see, what else? that's about it, actually.

I agree, totally!
I have a gorgeous layout...and then the comments page goes and makes it all mucky..

Thank you http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The comments section *definitely* leaves something to be desired though.

ahh yes, that's one nice livejournal, Sui_Generis. i was wondering what was taking its own sweet time to load (stupid dialup grrr).

DITTO!
I hate LJ.
I've got a DSL line, and it still takes all eternity to load an LJ page!

And ditto what Shafina says: the comment page is so ugly, barf!

Nowadays when I land at some LJ site I click it away and can't be bothered to even look at it. I find LJ more annoying than not...

The only reason I attempt to load LJ is because of the great "friends page" where I can read everybody's updated entries.

The LJ user icons are cute too, just like the mood indicators - I tend to like to adding and seeing little graphics in blogs, s'just more fun/brightens up the entries too?

I've set up about 10 blogs using Greymatter and B2 (like the latter better actually *heh*) for my friends and basically the main reason they wanted the blog is for the comments section .. so comments or a type of tagboard are really popular too =)

http://www.imood.com - something free you can put into your blogs, btw =) Not as cute as some of the LJ ones, but it works http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.blogrolling.com is another lil something that you can plug in friend's blogs and it'll show you when they're updated and works as a bookmark.

Ditto. Until 6 weeks ago, I was on dial up (there IS no broadband in Boston. It simply doesn't exist).

LiveJournal never loads for me. I can't even read my friend's journals that are on there. http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I've had my DX journal for a year and a half, and unless Stephen decides to shut the site down, I don't see myself moving elsewhere. Between the yearly cost for a journal and the speed of the site, it's more than worth it for me.

I agree completely that LJ has its downfalls. I'm currently a paid user (paid because of the fast servers, poll creation, extra userpics, etc) so things usually load for me. Usually. When they don't, I'm even more frustrated. I orginally found out how good paid users had it when a friend bought me an account for my birthday last year... I haven't wanted to go back since... which really, really sucks. I hate playing (and paying) into the greed of certain people.

I've never had any direct experience with dx, so I won't say anything about it. The layouts people have *are* pretty, though, and I would assume they're easier to change than those on LJ. (by the way, thanks for the compliment, justsu.)

Anyway, I've recently gotten interested in greymatter. I think that once my paid account expires, I may make gm my main blogging tool. Stephen, if you haven't already, you may want to look into the features gm has and think about incorporating them. One thing in particular is the customizable comments page. The LJ one really is hideous, just like the rest of the layout of the site. I mean, I can't say *my* layouts are much better, but sheesh...

Anyway, just figured I'd throw my two cents in. http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Oh, and I have one more LJ code available if anyone wants it...
