Yes yes yes I must see!

We don't have a value village. :( But I know where all the thrift stores are.

Gwen's teacher asked to me attend a "parent meeting" at the school this morning. I went and now I am on something called the Leadership Council. Budget cuts have caused a reduction in staff and they need parents to help out at school. I would be excellent at this if I had any time and/or energy to take on something new. But I guess I'll try it anyway.

Robyn, If you have any stuff to bring in and donate to VV, they'll give you a coupon for 20% off your next purchase (it has to be a bag of stuff, tho....at least, they're doing that here)

Well please, don't let any perfectionistic person see it and you will do just fine. I have a shawl I'm working on and I showed it too some crochet people that have been doing things for years and they couldn't see the mistakes that I KNOW I MADE, so just remember it's all in the eye of the beholder and if it fits well, looks great, well that's all that matters, it's the end result that counts, and it gives you something to concentrate on while your waiting for the big event, you might get it finished before that if you try. Or maybe upon it's completion, the big event will occur, never underestimate the mind over matter thingie. Hope your boy Harrison is doing better.

~ I'm home alone tonight & tomorrow (the boy is working out near Buffalo for the next few days) so I think I will make some broccoli stir fry & rice for dinner, and I don't have to share any of it. Yay!

~ This past weekend I watched The Exorcist for the first time in my life. It definitely wasn't as scary as everyone made it out to be. Though the scene with Regan "crawling" down the stairs made me jump.

it's Castor oil :) good choice! (I came back to clarify this statement...good choice NOT to do it!)
*Castor oil has long been used as a strong laxative and cathartic. Since stimulation of intestinal peristalsis also stimulates uterine contractions, castor oil has been used for inducing labor. My clinical experience is that it works best in women who have ruptured membranes ('broken water') and are not having contractions. In other women I have not seen it be successful in inducing labor by itself although it will stimulate uterine contractions.

Since castor oil is a cathartic laxative, taking it will produce intestinal cramping and diarrhea for several hours. Some people describe it as feeling like having the flu or food poisoning. It also does not taste good so it can be hard to take the 1-4 tablespoon dose. Though not well documented, there are reports of increased incidence of meconium stained amniotic fluid in women given castor oil to induce labor.

*Stimulation of the nipples releases oxytocin, which is a natural form of pitocin. Oxytocin causes contractions, which can sometimes induce labor. Gently roll the nipple and stop when you feel contractions. If this is going to work, you will generally feel contractions within 20 minutes.

*Tea made from parsley or cumin seeds will also often stimulate contractions, and both are gentle and virtually free of side effects.

*check out this site: http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/natind...tml#Homeopathic (http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/natinduc.html#Homeopathic)

*Labor Inducing Eggplant Parmesan
One of the methods of self-inducing labor that's been sweeping the internet in recent years is the myth that eggplant will start labor. This maternity myth started when a news story began circulating about a restaurant in Georgia named Scalini's. Apparently the mothers of over 300 babies have gone into labor in the past 23 years, within 48 hours of eating the eggplant parmegiana.

The funny part is, it may just be that the dish causes the women to go into labor, but it's not the eggplant. The herbs Oregano and Basil have properties that may cause contractions, though it is not yet known how or in what quantities. This is why, in aromatherapy circles, these herbs and essential oils are to be avoided whenever possible during pregnancy.

These are from various websites I found.
OK I am done :)

Megan just came in and told me to watch Baby Doll and walked away, So of course I am sitting here craddling a ratty 8" doll.

We found Baby Doll at Fantastic Sam's. Some other little girl left it there and it was under their counter waiting for her to come back. Megan was eyeballing it the whole time I was getting my hair cut. The hairdresser said it had been there for a week, so Megan could take it home. I immediately gave Baby Doll a bath and now she is Megan's absolute favorite doll. She is one of those dolls with the cloth body and vinyl head and limbs.

today I remembered this song my cousin and I made up about this girl named Krissy she was friends with. It was to the tune of Moon Unit Zappa's Valley Girl. The one line that keeps going through my head is "for that face there is no cure." I accidentally (maybe on purpose? who know's with 12 year-olds) let her hear it.

1. I had to go to All-Mart today for batteries and an ink jet cartridge. What an experience of dumbing down that place is! It took nearly 30 minutes to find the person who had the keys to the ink jet showcase/ safety vault. They even keep the damn manual for cross referencing part numbers locked up. Thank God I brought all my numbers with me. The security is tighter there than at the airport! When I finally got to the register the cashier had the nerve to ask me to take my DL out of my wallet so she could write my DL number on my check. It's not like you can't see everthing in the window of the wallet, so I said, "Look, do you see that number, well, write it down and get on with it otherwise you can do a void and I'll order the damn thing on line! Then she offered some excuse that that was the way she did it up north and I shouted "I don't give a damn how you did it up north, you're down here now! which brought on a lot of laughs from all the good Ole boys waiting in line behind me.

2. I still haven't got over my scare with the black widow today. Out of the 3000 species of spiders, only two are really dangerous to people and both are found in Florida. Arachnida Araneida Oxyopidae or otherwise known as Black Widow and Brown Recluse- Arachnida Araneida Loxoscelidae. I have already been bitten by a Brown Recluse and have a small faint scar on my back shoulder from it. So my arachnophobia is justified. I won't go into the gory details of the Brown Recluse's bite but it's gross and painful. For some people it can be deadly, everyone reacts differently to the venom.

3 I don't mind it at night when I hear the crickets chirping, I like to hear them sing and the fact that they eat spiders makes me very happy. I've made a deal with them, if they'll eat the spiders, I won't let anyone use them for fishbait.

and yet I'm still not sure what the fuck a prose poem is!!!!

Anyone care to help?

A prose poem is a crock.

It's prose that the author has decided is a poem.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

It's about the graphic.

It's not like we're living in the 19-th century anymore, when a novel is verse freaks critics out.

no, I do know what a prose poem is, I just dont know how to write one

Our teacher suggested using a "dream sequence"...if I used any of my dreams, it would not make any sense

But I have 2 lines, yeay!!! (erm, sentences...it happens to be 2 lines, too )

Crickets will eat spider eggs and baby spiders. I don't think they'll tackle an adult spider, though.

There is a cricket in (I think) Australia that will eat spiders...or so I've heard.

That would be one nasty cicket!

Here ya Go Christine, it's some Classical Prosody

We, whose first memories reach half of a century backward, May praise our fortune to have outliv'd so many dangers,- Faultiness of Nature's unruly machinery or man's --;
For, once born, whatever it's worth, Life is to be held to.
Its mere persistence esteem'd as real attainment
Its crown of silver reverence'd as one promise of youth.

Just go on and on and it doesn't have to rhyme or anything, but the more grandiose imagery, the better.

Like...

Twin be the gates of the house of sleep: as fable opineth
One is of horn, and thence for a true dream outlet is easy.
Darkly prison'd to arise to celestial exaltation
to the fair happy woodland. No one offending impiously, nor forcing to service of vile uses; ordering rather thy slave to beauty, compelling lovingkindness.
So should desire, the only priestess of Nature Divinely inspir'd like a good monarch rule thee, and lead thee onward in consummate motion Of life eternal unto heavenly perfection.

(Yawn, Yawn)

J. comes bouncing around in here pulling books off my shelf, demanding I provide him something to read. Can't he see I'm busy being prosey! Damn it man! Must I play librarian, can't I write in peace!

Now he's reading my detective novel..

I love the defnitions of prose poem in the dictionaries: a piece of prose that uses poetic devises....it just begs more definitions :P

basically, we've decided in class that it's a poem that is in the structure of prose..blah

it's Castor oil :) good choice!
These are from various websites I found.
OK I am done :)

Remembering

Arms fan out in rainbow blue jumpsuit, thick, padded against the toddler afternoon. Cherry drop footsteps fall in the snow, a trail of ghostly followers to the concrete edge. Flakes drift upwards towards the sky, flowing backwards like the waters of Saint John River during the tides. Mountainous waters in the Bay of Fundy reflect the island of Prince Edward. Rusted sands stain shirts like crimson hair stains pages of the imagination. Thoughts shelved away in the library of the mind, memories pasted between their bindings.

Well not to scare you Lorrell, but there are other dangerous spiders besides those two. I read about one in Australia that eats babies or something and is attracted to water, so now they're having huge problems because everyone who can afford one has a pool!

Getting a burrito was good, calmed me down some. I had a good rant on the way over. She always listens and it's nice though I probably talk about things that qualify as "Too Much Info."

There was a guy at the burrito place wearing the same shirt as me. This is an old shirt that I have had for three years. What are the odds of that? I would like to think that we were both mildly embarassed and perhaps a little turned on by the whole thing. What a hot pickup line is that? "I can see myself in your shirt" :P

Lorrell
11-16-2004, 09:54 PM
1. Oh yeah Christine, your definitely on to it there, I like it, but one little thingie I would omit the Proper names of locations, like "Bay of Fundy" etc. and just put the word "bay" or "river" with a nice adjective in the front of it. Otherwise it makes it sound like your giving mapquest directions, the reader doesn't need to know what bay or river, you can leaveit up to their imagination. Use lots of Imagery in prose; lots of detailed descriptions.

1. Yeck, and gag, more spider indentifications going on. It's the Southern House Spider, the female looks like a black widow minus the red hourglass and the male version is easily mistaken for a brown recluse minus the "violin" on it's head :o

2. No turkey for me, my stepfather just put 50 lbs of venison in my freezer out in the garage. I wasn't planning on even eating any meat this year, so now of course I have venison roast, venison cube steak, ground venison, venison stew chunks, etc. He killed up in South Carolina, tsk. I gave him my Reindear Beanie for his dashboard. I guess it's way better than what they have in the grocery stores, and since he hunts in some exclusive hunt club, it's all corn- fed deer on managed land

1 V. just called me to say she can get tickets for us to see "Phantom of the Opera" on my birthday and here I have been knocking myself out this evening getting something ready for hers birthday, which isn't until the 30th but we have to celebrate early because she's going north again. This is the real Broadway production and she won't tell me how much the tickets are costing, but I can just imagine. She' such a theatrical drama queen, she's got to have the real thing. I'm sure it will be stunning.

2. Whoa! I was reading thru the earlier posts and came across Tanagee's post of the brown recluse bite and when I checked it out, it sure sent a shiver down my spine. I just want ya' all to know that my bite was much smaller than that and I killed the spider when I rolled over on him, it being upon my shoulder bone helped but it took about 6 months for the pus and swelling to go away. At that particular time in my life I lived in a loft with bare wooden beams in the ceilling and the spider fell from the wood beams into my bed in the middle of the night. I'm just thankful it wasn't my face. When I awoke in the morning and found it's little dead body in bed with me, I got dressed, scooped it up in a jar, and went straight to the ER.

3. I've got to get ready for the MG meeting and the big officers election tomorrow.
I'm feeling so over it already. Pray, that I, the incumbent VP, shall WIN! At least I have downloaded the ballot for the nominees and if things go well and I show up for the meeting, they might just get to cast their vote on paper....even if my name was spelled wrong.

2. I drank coffee with "The Gemini" this morning and he actually brewed another pot (as though the first one wasn't enough) in the course of our conversation(yak and distract) and then instead of putting it in the themos, he left it behind, then called to remind me that he might have left the pot on. I walked on my treadmill (one mile) with the thought that if walking/exersize can start contractions and help labor progress then maybe it will help my situation progress a little quicker...boy did it ever!

I have...well HAD now, one of those little microtrimmer things that you can use to shape your eyebrows and shave off those embarassing unsightly hairs. I was trying to get it to come apart so I could change the battery and like a dope I didn't remove the little blade thingie and I sliced a 1" gash in my right thumb and 2 smaller, not as deep cuts on my index finger.

The hubby was lying on the bed reading a story to Megan and I was semi-freaking out. He was afraid I was hemorraging or something and would have to take me to the ER, he was very annoyed with me for doing such a stupid thing.

Never did change the battery, turns out that the battery in it coroded the inside and fused everything together...no wonder it would not come appart.

Actually I'm not even a genuine Clinton fan. :D On matters of policy, he sold out his liberal supporters in vain attempts to make nice with his rabid antagonists. But when it comes to pure rhetorical style, that man is unmatched in American politics. He shore talks purty!

I didn't catch it at the time, but he also snuck in one of those coded biblical references that characterize W's speeches, winking to the evangelicals in the audience.

Ack. Too many distractions. The telephone may not be such a great improvement after all...

the boy has agreed to help me with the taboo offensive art journal. ever since he agreed to help, he's been avoiding working on it. grrr. i want this done and out of the house. it's stressing me out. it's not going to be any fun if i can't stop stressing over it.

the mail showed up very wet today. yes, it's raining. nothing is messed up. one thing surely would have been if the girly hadn't put it in a plastic bubble envie. another thing would have been also, if she hadn't stuck her paper envelope in one of those cardboard priority mail envelopes. that was some luck! why would you lay a package down in a puddle? there were plenty of non-puddle areas....

I don't mind milk so much anymore, but I still don't drink it enough

Altho soy milk is nasty, I love soy cheese

i like soy milk. not by itself though. vanilla soy milk is yummy on cereal.

i haven't eaten cereal in nearly a year....

today is going to be productive. i am going to devote the entire day to art projects and packaging up exchanges. depression is a dangerous thing. just because i'm not enthusiastic about it, doesn't mean i can't get into things once i start. why is starting so damn hard sometimes?

3 The things I'm in the mood to do today I am unable to do and the things I am able to do I don't seem to be in the mood for.

MILK is GROSS.....all of it...soy, cows, goats, whatever...I like to drink buttermilk just to gross everyone out and because most people won't touch it straight. It's really tastie with a little black pepper in it or some Paprika.

Throwing my hat in to the glasses & milk conversation:

I Love Chocolate Milk and Egg Nog but am not fond of white milk. Luckily Megan LOVES milk so I don't have a big fight, besides all she's allowed to drink is milk or water and a juice box every once in a while. I have never tried any other types of milk, but I do know that soy formula REEKS when it is puked up. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_28_108.gif

My glasses are all scratched and bent. Scratched because I drop them and don't clean them properly. Bent all to hell because 5 out of 7 days a week I fall asleep on the couch watching TV with them on.

I wear rigid gas permeable contact lenses and wore them 24-7 pretty much since I got them, but since my Dr got finally my glasses Rx right I have been too lazy to put them in.

i probably should have glasses. I don't have them- not becuase I'm vain, but becuase Glasses are Expensive.

I got out of work early, and so I jumped in my jammies and plan on doing some creative things that will be dropped in the mail monday.

And. I'm. HUN-GRY.
Quesadilla? yes.

~ I want to talk about milk too! (All the cool kids are doing it! :P) So, when I was a kid I knew this girl who refused to drink milk unless it was dyed with food coloring. Yes, everyday she would drink blue, pink or green milk. That can't be healthy.

~ Last night, at around 10:30 PM or so, as I was posting a comment on LiveJournal, the power went out in our neighborhood and stayed out for about 45 minutes to an hour. It was creepy. I think someone, who shall remain Nameless *ahem*, did this with her powers of mind control.

~ Psst... guess what? It's FRIDAY! :D

It bears repeating "white milk -YUCK"

I was forced to drink milk after an unfortunate incident with rat poisoning when I was a child.

I didn't like it then...I don't like it now.

1 Yes, to get a quality pair of glasses that will last and can deal with all the enviromental hazards of daily life can set you back $300.00 to $400.00. I know, I know, you've seen all these little coupons and sales crap traps, but believe me you are better with the $20.00 pair of readers than mid range price eyeglasses. It might cost more to get the good stuff but I wouldn't cut corners. The mid -price optical market is a hoax.

2.Maybe the reason I don't like milk has something to do with my experiences on a dairy farm...once you see the way the cows are milked...zzzz they hook the cow up to these milking machines and usually the cow takes a dump while all this is going on and there is another cow standing right behind and another and another etc....you get the picture and it sure doesn't smell like a field of clover.

3. I'm going downtown in a little while...just to see if it's still there and visit the post office...etc.

I agree...if you can afford it buy the good glasses...otherwise go for price. there is no mid-price range

well, I was thinking of getting glasses at Costco ( they examine your eyes for $40 and classes start at about there too) and I don't have insurance so yea- the Cheaper, the better.

I'm not too fond of milk. I had ( and still have!) this terrible habit of setting things down and then completely forgetting about them, only to find them a month later having converted itself to cheese. for a short time in my youth I was banned from drinking milk for that reason.

at least soda doesn't spoil.
