the docs said i have an ulcer. lame.
so, i am getting all this natural hippie type care and my medicines include some nastyyyy licorice tabs, apple cider vinegar, and doing exercises called toe drops.
it's better than taking prilosec, i think. the docs were very gentle and non invasive/threatening/doomsaying.
bonus: i got tea tree oil at a great price!

I've never used tea tree oil
I've heard it's really good, tho

i woke up to very soft meowing. i could not locate one of the kitties...
after searching several places that made sense, i ended up finding her in one of the dining room drawers :P the boy did a lot of unpacking yesterday and had the drawers open for about an hour. they're huge drawers at least. they're the kind that are built into the wall. big, old wooden things. the kind of drawers you would use use for your fancy table cloths and napkins....if you were fancy...our drawers are empty. fancy, we are not.
she was in there for at least 12 hours. that's a long damn time....she's fine now though :) her first stop was the litter box. what a good kitty....

I have to go wake Larrissa for her first day of Taco Ho-dom. I'm sure she'll be excited to know she already has a marriage request. And that he has an excellent dental plan :P
OK, I am really sick of waking up in pain! This has been going on for a week now and it's terrible, especially in my knees but also in ankles, wrists, and elbows. Getting up and down the stairs is absolute torture and I have NO idea what's causing it. I may have to change my name to "GimpedUpGirl."
I was so naughty last night and quit studying to watch old La Femme Nikita and work on knitting stuff. Since I am the Florida rep for Made With Love By a Liberal (http://www.madewithlovebyaliberal.org). Gawd I am such a freaking dork.

I had to clean the catbox this morning and it got me thinking about the long term effects of exposure to such high ammonia levels. EEEWWWWW.
It's really cold in the gym. It's actually just a huge warehouse, so in summer we fry and apparently in winter we shall freeze. If this keeps getting worse I'm going to start bringing my quilt with me to work and shall be purchasing an electric tea kettle. Brrrrr.
I started a painting a few days ago. I haven't painted in so long. I already hate how it's coming out. Larrissa and I are each supposed to do a painting for the living room and it's really becoming just too much god damned pressure, because hers is all nifty and mine is... not.

I should really get ready to leave the house, but the bed is just too comfy.
It's really sunny out, which is making me feel even guiltier about being indoors.
Not to mention that there's a mouse somewhere in the apartment, kindly donated last night by the neighbor's cat, and going out would mean getting further away from said mouse.

There's nothing going on at work after 12 today. I'm scheduled until 5. It's dull as hell to be here by myself. My boss asked me to stay until 1 but according to my budget I need to stay until at least 3. Staying until 5 would be the smartest thing but I really need to go home and study too so.... 3 it is I suppose. As long as I can last that long =\
I am definitely looking into that electric tea kettle idea. Hot tea would so rock my nonexistent socks right now. My toes are cold!
My boss asked me to re-set the rat traps and I have a problem with that. They don't bother me, I see no good reason to kill them. Luckily I checked the traps and they were already set still so I don't have to do it but I don't have to make a big deal out of it or refuse to do it.

1. Don't you hate 70-80 degree weather, it's so mundane.
2. I don't want to go out of the house today, to much to do and I don't like it out there. I wish I didn't have to go, but I'll try to make the best of it. I'm sure it could be worse, so I'll try not to knock anyone over or slap them.
3. People are so annoying and rude, especially these pumped up Rednecks.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. Not because it's mundane but because I honestly think that it sucks. Give me the 60s! I think. Could you convert that into degress celsius?

oo, what i wouldn't give for balmy Bay Area weather. Even in the winter the sun can warm you up right nice.
out here though, we're on the backside of a hilly range that on the other side faces monterey bay- so you can see the bay crap rolling in over the hills, you can literally see people disappearing off the streets when the 5 o clock cold front moves in.
I'm thinkng about getting a new winter coat. The $60 wool coat that fits well, or the $60 snowboard jacket that fits okay but totally isn't me?

I'm kind of amazed Robyn stopped to tell us about Harrison on the way to the ER, but it is somehow better to be able to worry in advance or at the same time, rather than just in retrospect. I really hope he's okay.
325482
i was on the phone with his pediatrician's receptionist again.. telling her i can't wait to talk to him, this is what's gong on and i am going to the ER.... then i had to call chris and get him to meet me there....
harrison was acting fine when we left home but within a half hour of getting there, he started going into shock- his pulse was tachy and he had low blood pressure and was white as a ghost, his lips were even greyish, and he was shivering... he ended up needing a blood transfusion then... they gave him two units of blood while we wited to the air ambulance to land in regina... we've been in saskatoon since- i just got home from teh hospital in regina here- he was transferred this afternoon back here to finish his IV antibiotics....
they admitted him in s'toon on tuesday night up on the ped's ward and then he had a scope on wednesday (down his throat into his tummy and the first bit of intestine) and it showed nothing out of the ordinary... then they did a mechel scan which was also normal... which is good i guess.... <_< we'll just neve rknow what caused the bleeding... anyhow, he had a few more diapers with bloody stool in them (sorry, TMI) but his bloodwork was fine after he had the transfusion... he ended up (after the second unit of blood, and pretty well right as the EMT's got to the ER to get us) spiking a fever and he got ONE hive.... so they were worried about the blood having something in it... (though no CMV- it was blood 'for newborns' so had been checked... hurrah for blood donors!!! (reed!)!!!!)
anyhow!!!!
he's in the hospital still and will be until monday night after his last dose of tazacin, as long as everything goes well.... bloodowrk has been consistently good for a few days now and he has only had 'normal' diapers for almost 48 hours, so.....
i'm home
i'm tired and worn out
my ankles are swollen up to my mid thighs... <_< sigh
wanted to catch up here, but i think i have about seven minutes left in me before i need to be horizontal... i'm sorry i couldn't catch all y'all up but there was no compute rin the hospital for me (cutbacks) and the one at ronald mcdonald house was out of commision because people are asses...... <_< i will be back later to say hi and figure out if anythig i just typed made sense... :P i'm glad you all missed me but i wish i hadn't had to be GONE!!!!!

this was the funniest thing in an article i just read about Ol' Dirty Bastard:
"When MTV News followed him around at the height of his popularity, he took the camera crew and several of his kids (he was said to have more than a dozen, by numerous mothers) to the welfare office -- in a limousine -- to get an allotment of food stamps.
And he received them."
I wonder if *I* qualify for food stamps??

Which rather stretches my definition of "mature," but anyway...
I have this great book, Conversations on the Plurality of Worlds, which came out in the seventeenth century, and which is a free-flowing speculation on what other planets might be like, and whether one can get there, and who might live there.
I got a beautiful 1820 copy of it, with engraved illustrations and all, out of the UCBerkeley library to look up a quote some months back, and I don't want to return it.
Luckily, if no one else asks for it, I can keep renewing it for quite some time.

One of the cool things about the book is that it's framed as a conversation - in the manner of Socratic dialogues, and Galileo's treatises - but in this case it's between an astronomer and an interested and highly educated duchess. Quite unusual to have a woman in such a role in such a book.
The quote I had to look up in it is kind of amazing, too, since it has to do with people doing successful if limited experiments with flying. In the mid-seventeenth century.
I've long wondered how old paper airplanes are. I wonder if anyone could figure that out.
siafu

what was the duchess's name?
what was the quote?

Now I am wondering what a bar grant is. Will it advance you more quickly to esquirrity?
I've also been wondering what the newfangled Oregon law against gay marriage has to say about ones that took place before it was enacted, or if that just gets decided in court...
I should stop sitting here; my sciatic nerve is angry with me.
siafu
11-15-2004, 12:47 AM
yeah. get up and do a little jig.
well, i don't think they can undo it. they think they can't.
a bar grant means i get my application fee back, and they pay for one of my review courses. i think yes, it is an advancement toward esquirrity.

Hm. Excuse me. It was merely a Marchioness, and a Countess in the first English translation. She's fictional in any case, and is just called Mme la Marquise de G***. The footnote here says it was partly based on a real person, Mme de la Mesangère, about whom I know nothing.
The quote, in translation, is:
"We may do more than imagine the thing to be possible," I replied, "We have already begun to fly; several persons, here and there, have found the secret to fitting wings to themselves, of setting them in motion, so that they are held up in the air and are carried across streams, or to fly from one steeple to another. . . . The art of flying is only just being born; it will be perfected, and some day we will go as far as the moon."
Two of siafu's facts were just questions.

I've always loved novels/treatises/etc that take place in N** in the year 18** and feature Mme la Marquise de G***.
I've written two paragraphs of the next chunk in my thesis.

today i get to go buy a new bed! the $99 metal futon jobbie from MallWart. it's my christmas present from my mom. my current futon has been with me since senior year of high school and is molded on the bottom so i have to periodically soak it in lysol. i'm excited to finally have a bed with a FRAME so i'm not sleeping at floor level. bad feng shui.
madame larrissa needs a ride to work later this morning but i'm gonna see if i can shanghai her into going and helping me load the bed in my car first.

1. It's such a pain to come to the realization that other people will never be as responsible for your well being, it's really up to you and to depend on any human being is a trap. <_<
2. It would be nice if you could depend upon others for a helping hand but I've found that nine times out of ten, people screw it up when you drop the ball in their court.
3. Now when any one offers help, I realize they are trying to show their concern, love, affection, but I KNOW how easy good intentions become disasters and then I usually have to step in and make the necessary corrections anyhow, so why bother, I just politely refuse now and get on with it myself :P

harrison is home.. .it's beena LONG day... i gave full benefit of the doubt to the regina hospital staff, but.......
yesterday i told hte charge nurse and TWO OTHER nurses that they had to contact barb at the peds outpatient clinic to get the req for harrisons weekly bloodwork- and that they would have to call first thing in the morning becuse they have to take his bloodowrk BEFORE he gets his tacrolimus at 9 am- that it has to be done around 8:45... three nurses were aware of this....
today at 10 am they tell me 'we are just about to get his bloodwork done, we just got a fax back from the peds outpt clinic with his form...' i said 'that was supposed to be done first thing this morning! you can't take his tacro level now, it isn't at a trough level an hour after he gets it, it has to be done before!'..
"oh. we didn't know that.'
 me: 'yes you did, i told two nurses yesterday, and a charge nurse and they all said they would make sure it was done properly!!! i specifically went to the desk to tell them!!!'
and then he was supposed to get his last IV meds at 1:00 and they started late becuse the nurse 'had to' do rounds (even though he had TWO NURSES doing his cre today!!!!!!) and then it ws supposed to run for an hour and i had to go to the nursing station at 3 pm and sy 'isn't he supposed to be done?????' and when his nurse finally came she said 'oh, i forgot all about his meds running.'.....

i gave them a chance, thinking 'this is the peds ward, not the nicu or the er and it's different staff and things might be better than the shit we've had to put up with the past 2 years.....
i was wrong.
last chance too, nex ttime something happens, i double check and second guess EVERYTHING they do.... screw standing back and letting htem do their job on the assumption that they can do it properly.

Chest pain may also be grief.
I suffered quite severe chest pain for a few months after my husband's death.
Be good to yourself.

1. LaRRiSSa, Orchids are from the family of plants known as Orchidaceae. The Greek word "orchis" means testicle. It's the tuberous root of some of the species that resemble a testicle, not the flower...I just wanted to clear up any confusion you had in your mind about that.
2. You have to have Greek and Latin if your going to study Botany. Then if you use a botanical name for a plant, most people won't know what the hell you are talking about, so you have to know the common name (and sometimes there are several) as well as the difference between cryptogams and phanerogams, families, species, varieties, etc.
3. There is much amusement in the strange and wondrful language known as "Botanical Latin",every plant has a little story to tell about itself.

I think this timer should have to pause for pee breaks. <_< I'm gonna have to get organized and bargain with the management around here...
I forgot I got my hair cut today and kinda scared myself in the bathroom mirror. It's a pretty severe haircut. I hope no one thinks I'm part of some weird hillbilly militia.
I only have 11 minutes left. This timer is sucking all of the joy out of my life.
It may win the battle, but I'll win the war...
