My tomato soup was boring so I stirred in some pesto and shredded parmesan. MMMmmmmmm that's the way I will be eating it from now on!
I hope there is some word on Harrison soon
It's hard to think of what to get my step-aunt (younger than me and married to my uncle who is over 60  ) for Christmas. She likes expensive prestige items I can't afford. But she also likes sweets so I'm thinking of making her some chocolate truffles. I've never made them before but it looks easy.

Traditional plain French chocolate truffles are quite easy to make. Buy really good chocolate.
Dipped chocolate truffles are a lot more work.

Slovenian has a dual, i.e. a special form for things that come in pairs: eyes, legs, arms, fishermen-brothers.
I had a terrible crush on a guy who translated Slovenian poetry.
Slovenia is near Croatia.

I love languages with the dual number.
Anglo-Saxon and Arabic also have dual.
Languages with dual grammatical number are just made for love poetry and single combat.

I finished all the photos on the studio website (http://www.davidmbowmanstudio.com), and we got them all uploaded and linked (we hope).
That means we have a picture online of every wallpiece we've ever made, except for six that for various reasons didn't get pictures taken, and the one I just finished the day before yesterday (we haven't had sun since to take a good shot of it).
Later I'll start fixing all the mediocre pictures. And a lot of other stuff about the site.

So depressed, in fact, that when she got to the pictures/letters from foreigners telling us that they still loved Americans, even though we had re-elected Shrub on Sorry Everybody (http://sorryeverybody.com/) she started crying.

1. Well, I am just about ready to say FU-- it to trying to make this digital photograpy thing happen... i need something called a CF card reader to read the memory card, and I need to insert THAT somewhere...etc..I put the CD in the readable-writeable and nothing is happing with that ???? but what it shows in the diagram in the manual looks like a Floppy Auggh! of course this is something that is probably available only though Nikon, a CA-20PC-card adapter, and something PCMCIA Type II or III  If I plug the camera into the TV or VCR I can see the pictures? Ha Ha Ha! :(
2. I think I'll go sew a little, by hand  Too much tech tonight!

Lorrell - a CF (CompactFlash) card reader costs very little (like five or six dollars). It plugs into a USB port, which is marked with a little symbol like a trident or cat-o-nine-tails.
If you are using a laptop, you have a big slot in the side which is a PCMCIA slot. Don't worry about the type II or III business. If this is the case, you can get a CF card adapter that fits into that slot, INSTEAD of getting the little reader thingie. But if you're not using a laptop, ignore all that and get a normal CF reader.
BUT, there ought to be a way to plug your camera directly into the computer. Not necessarily, but most digital cameras come with a cable to plug directly into a USB port, and avoid the CF card reader issue entirely.
hammerquill
11-11-2004, 10:00 PM
Oh, and the CF readers, both the normal USB kind and the PCMCIA adapter kind for laptops, are available at any computer store and almost any camera store nowadays. The laptop one is a bit more expensive, but still cheap.
If you put the CD in the drive and it doesn't run immediately, try looking at it through the normal directory system, and find something like "Install.exe" or "Setup.exe"
If you're using a Mac, things might be a bit different, though.

Thanks so much for your feedback on this, no, I'm not using this with a laptop or a mac. I'll get a CF card reader and plug it in the USB port. I'm expecting a digital software program in a few days which should make downloading a bit easier. The cable I have plugs the camera into TV/VCR port and then you can format and display the photos on screen and it also has a Zoom feature. Most of the features are within the camera which speaks 4 different languages and your memory cards are like negatives used to be. It's nice if your doing a presentation on a TV, then you just plug it into that and use the camera menu to move your pictures around and it has a zoom feature. Most of my shots are bugs, flowers, pests and diseases of plants, etc. so it's good for that. I think I'll need the normal CF reader with adaper for memory cards if i want to download photos to PC. Anyway, I just got one of the manuals downloaded and printed up from the Nikon website so I should be doing Ok with it soon as I finish wading thru all the info and working out the compatiblities. ;)

Velma, I'm trying to sell books to pay bills. They're not dumb, I'm actually sad to part with them, but I'm just annoyed at the lack of responses so far. You can see them here (http://www.livejournal.com/community/used_books/79808.html) if you so desire.
I'm thinking: library, post office, drop off applications. Yep yep. And maybe donuts. Damn you Lilac for putting that in my head!! :D

i bought a pair of gloves at Target (or, as my friends say, tar-jaay) last week--just in time for today's snow!
i keep sneezing this morning--maybe i'm allergic to snow!
hello to everyone else down there!

Good morning Gwemsmom and Velma!
I don't have three random facts.
Just wanted to say Hi!
velma
11-12-2004, 08:14 AM
nameless girl, would you believe that the books you have that i would want, i already have? i'm sorry you have to sell your stuff--you've been through some rough times already! :(
i should rake some leaves this morning, but i can't be bothered.
the neighbors are probably irritated with us, cause they're all obsessive about their lawns. bah!

I don't know what a pig nut is. I only know that Lilac has one.
I brought a bunch of different tea bags to work and mixed them all up. I never know what flavor I have chosen until I drink it. Today's was blueberry. MMMmmm.
I am still thinking about how much fun it would be to ride around with Velma.
Lilac
11-12-2004, 08:24 AM
A pig nut is a hickory nut. We call them pig nuts up here. I don't know why. I mean...I don't see any pigs out in my yard snarfing them up!!
Gruff eats them, though.
Of course, Gruff eats anything.

~ I was wrong, the snow IS sticking... to the cars anyway. <_<
~ I got into a huge arguement last night with my boyfriend that started over the definition of "business ethics."
~ I have neurotic leaf-raking neighbors too Velma! And we haven't raked our leaves at all, so they are probably all pissed (the neighbors, not the leaves!). In fact, when I came home from work yesterday I noticed someone raked a pile of leaves (that I'm assuming were in the road) up to the sidewalk right in front of our house, so now I have to rake up THEIR pile. Those bastards.
velma
11-12-2004, 08:42 AM

please dont make me.
sarahkate
11-12-2004, 09:03 AM
~ Get ready Larrissa! Dammit! Do it now! Wait... what are you getting ready for?
~ Well I will show those neighbors. I will go around the neighborhood gathering everyones' lawn & leaf bags. Then I will dump them out all over my lawn and have a big leaf pile party. The neighbors will peak out their windows, watching in disgust as I jump around in huge piles of those devil-ish leaves, tossing them everywhere. Wahooo.
~ I don't require drugs or alcohol. I'm naturally wacky.

I made meat sauce and lasagne last night. My hubby is so impressed that for a mutt with no Italian heritage I make awesome 'gravy'.

we went to the hotsauce food place, and i was all gonna buy, but im an asshat and thought a dollar was a ten, thus sara bought.
we got james' third zine too, i havent read all of it

I did indeed get a snazzy ass letter from Ms WonkyWalkingShoe and it totally made my day. We're penpals but have only exchanged three letters with months in between because we both have such crazy crazy lives. But she's lots of fun and I hope she thinks I'm lots of fun too.
I bought lunch but she put gas in my car so it's all the same. And luckily the gas was unleaded fuel and not caused by hot sauce or beans :P
We finally got the new computer at work and it rocks because the keyboard has that "new" feel to it. The only thing is that the MSN Messenger is dumb and doesn't tell me when I have new emails.

I just read an announcement in a Methodist church bulletin that there would be a baby shower for the mother of a yet-to-be-born baby girl whose name will be Zanna.
My supervisor did not show up today and I don't know where she is. Fortunately no one has asked.

400,000 people in my state are probably going to lose their health care coverage when TennCare goes away and reverts to regular medicaid.

Becuase they wouldn't let me go to Washington for Thanksgiving.

1. I have returned from my day trip to USF's Botanical Gardens (alive) :o
2. Driving over there we saw four major traffic accidents, two involving three cars with 2 fatalities, and the other two had some severe damages to both vehicles, including one car in the water, etc.
3 Coming home I saw three accidents, one involving a semi tractor trailer and another car upside down in a ditch.

1 Well Hot Damn Gal! And a big burrito goes to Miss Larrissa. The way you extol the glories of Hot Sauce, you know you are gonna have some fun with this! Get a Chihuahua and put out the cat!
2. Speaking of cats, Miss Kitty, you did the right thing with telling off Target. You've been trading your "family values" for dollars too long. It's a nice place to shop, but I wouldn't want to live there, especially on holidays.
3. I caught Laurie crying today over the devastation of some of the trees in the botanical garden. It's sad that the Monkey Puzzle Tree is gone, and there were all these shade-loving bromeliads scortching in the sunlight, waiting to be moved. I thought it looked pretty good, compared to Bok. I tried to give her some consolation in the fact that the Kapok was blooming beautiful and the bonsai was awsome. It's all going to take time to heal.

3 The calendar committee really screwed up the spelling on the 2005 calendars and now they must all be returned. It was pretty bad and it's squashed any notions I had of illustrating the cover. I really don't think I want to be involved with that committee. I enjoy my art and don't want to get stabbed in the back and denigerated by a bunch of people who spell "hole" W-H-O-L-E and know that it's the one they'll be visiting in the ground. :(

don't feel too bad, i'll tell you a little story
my friend's dad (i'll just call him dad2) came home from work for lunch. he went into the living room, picked up his book, and put on his glasses...he put his book on the table. he went into the kitchen, got his soup, and sat down to read while he ate, but he couldn't find his glasses. Now his daughter, Mel, was watching this...and then he asked if she saw his glasses...she looked RIGHT at him, and said "no"
then they proceded to look around for them, and he stood up, looked into the living room by his chair to see if they were there, but it was a bit blurry, so he reached up, took off his glasses, and THEN it dawned on him, and he had a good laugh
