what's the deal this year with kids- they don't like to trick or treat anymore??? :o
my 9 year old nephew refused to go- got dressed up and went out with his dad in the car to some neighborhood and refused to get out and trick or treat.... then came home and expected to eat the 'leftover' hand out candy... <_<
we got a total of <drumroll> SEVEN kids before we left to the city... and there were maybe four groups of kids we passed on the streets when we got in.... curious....

i used to plan next year's costume when i got home from trick or treating!!! :P ;)
we have a huge halloween colorful bowl of candy in goodie bags left over.... like i need THAT hanging around the house!!!!
pah... what's the difference?? i hae such terrible heartburn lately i don't wanna eat ANYTHING!!! darn this baby!!!!

i was happy to hear that gwen is feeling better... it's so hard to get rest yourself when your kids aren't feeling good!!
we still haven't gotten our flu shots, bad BAD BAD robyn!!!!!!!!!! shame on me....
i can't remember to do ANYTHING unless it is written down and the note is attached to my body somewhere where i will be sure to see it.... i've been meaning to call about getting in for slu shots for three weeks and still haven't done it!!! and julian is over two months overdue to see his speech therapist....
i'm a bad mommy.... :(

10-31-2004, 08:46 PM
on our way home tonight there was a freaky accident- a semi was in one ditch and a van, with the front end obliterated, in the other... there were too many emergency vehicles to count and traffic was stopped and being let through a car at a time... i have no clue what happened but i guess we'll read about it in the paper tomorrow.... and i'm glad we didn't leave to go home a half hour earlier!!!!! :o
fodder for my pregnancy induced nightmares, let me tell you....
all i dream about (or at least remember) is being in a car and being in a head on collision.... seriously, every night.... and it is NEVER ME driving and now i am completely (more than usual) paranoid about being a passenger while someone else drives....

H lost the outside envelope to her ballot. i feel i should curse about this. dammit. the outside envelope is the crucial one. so...she has to go to the elections office and pick up a new one. which she'd better do. dammit.

Hello Theresa! What's the word on the street?
~ We only had two groups of trick-or-treaters at our house too. I fear trick-or-treating might be a passing fad. One day I will say to my grandchildren "I remember when I was a kid we used to do this crazy thing where we would dress up in costumes, walk around the neighborhood knocking on doors and people would give us candy." My grandchildren will have fits of giggles at the mere thought of such silliness.
~ I have an urge to put on a costume now. I haven't dressed up since the last time I went trick-or-treating. I was probably in 7th grade at the time, and I was wearing a costume from two years previous - a 50's girl outfit including a snazzy poodle skirt my mom made.
~ Election day tomorrow! I'm getting a little bit nervous. I'm finding On the Issues (http://www.issues2000.org/) to be a very interesting site today. Check it out!

thanks for that site SK! I was just going to vote for the incumbant representative for my district because I didn't know anything about who was runnng but now I see he is a staunch anti-womans rights jerk.

Robyn, try ginger capsules for the heartburn. I have acid reflux, and I swear that ginger is better than the prescription meds I take to control it.
We had no tricker treaters either. We do live on a dead end street, but I thought that at least the kids from two doors down would come by. Oh well. Candy for me.
Am halfway through laundry and have bathed the baby. Next task: paying bills.

1 we had relatively few trick or treaters too... a few REALLY adorable little ones (around 3 yrs)... and some candygrubbingteensnotmany yearsyoungerthanmewhocouldjustaseasilygetasmuchcandybybuyingthemselvesabageachandswappingbetweenthemselvestogetvariety.
2 my mum has a cold, and dad hates halloween, so it was mostly up to me. mum had helped decorate ahead of time. dad decided eventually that 'we' were done and took it upon himself to 'close down'/turning off the lights, music, candles... grrh.
3 i can't remember how long to roast pumpkin seeds, or at what temp...

~ Same here! I figured I would just vote to re-elect my district's Congressman but I read on that site that he is anti-woman's rights and has several other opinions I disagree with, and I don't like his opponent either. Guess I just won't vote for a Congressman. <_<
~ I watched THE MOST HORRIBLE MOVIE IN THE WORLD on Saturday night. It was called The Ghosts of Edendale (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301184/). The actors were horrible, the script was horrible, it just didn't make sense, there was nothing scary, the sound and special effects were cheesy. Ugh. It was just a complete waste of time.
~ On the other hand, we went to the movies on Friday night and watched "Saw," which was VERY creepy. It was one of those turn on all of the lights - check under the bed and in the closet for boogie men - when you get home movies :P

But the good news is that the election will be overwith tomorrow and I can come back out of hiding!!!! :yay:

next year, i better have a great babysitter because i am going out for sure!!! i haven't been 'out' on halloween for ... five years!!!
my cousin got married yesterday and had a dress-up wedding.... guests were supposed to dress up too, but they only invited the old aunties and uncles, so most just came in black suits/dresses... party poopers!!!

A pedagogy workshop is a workshop where you're taught how to teach. :D This one was supposed to be about integrating people who have grown up speaking a language at home but have never been formally educated in that language into a second-language class primarily aimed at people with no previous knowledge of the language being taught. Geesuz. Without the jargon, it gets wordy.

Donatella the Australian Shepherd, star of stage and screen, is no more.
The past week or more she barely had the energy to stay upright while walking in the compulsive, senile, blind and deaf little counterclockwise circles that have been her main waking activity the past month or so. The vet came today. She died tranquilly, after a fair number of her many, many, many friends from around the studio complex - where she lived most of her long life - had said goodbye to her; she no longer recognized people, but still could enjoy being petted.
My father will by now have buried her under the herb garden.

WWOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO I just voted and it felt good! No lines, no waiting, no evil poll workers trying to disenfranchise anyone. (But I took three extra forms of ID just in case.) Not that my vote will translate into electoral votes <_<
We took Gwen to the emergency room last night. It was pouring down rain so there were no lines and much less waiting than usual. Her gatroenterologists will probably have to look down her esophagus and into her stomach with a scope at some point. She has been totally sacked out since about 11:30 last night.

There was a short opinion piece on NPR this morning, talking about how much the commentator likes going to the polls, the feeling of community, neighborhood participation in democracy. And how nasty it is, therefore, to feel forced to vote absentee, and not get to do the whole on-the-day, on-the-spot voting thing. I completely agreed with that, and had been wondering why no one else has said it.
I am partly overcoming the wistfulness by turning in my absentee voting form at my usual local polling place.
I found myself falling asleep early and irresistably last night, as if I hadn't slept more than a few hours on previous nights.

2. I was in the State of Inertia all day yesterday. It was a pleasure to be free of the "must work syndrome" of course i didn't get anything accomplished, and I felt really good for a change. Never underestimate the power of extra sleep.
3. J is down at the voting poll casting his vote. I have already voted and the only thing I want to consider casting is a fishing pole. It's Election Day so I'm having a party this evening, whining an dining, etc. I hope everyone will consider leaving Florida as soon as they've finished voting.

Today I am venturing out to my old work place with the babe. It's good to get out of the house.

Yesterday on the local ABC news they had a story about this old couple in Beverly Hills who were originally from Ohio that wrote letters to everyone in Cleveland who's last name started with Z urging them to vote for Kerry.
I am sitting here in my bathrobe, hair in a towel trying to get the gumption to get dressed and get out of here.

2. When I finally got around to reading the other posts in 3RF today, I was sorry to discover that Donatello had passed on and my deepest sympathy goes out to hammerquil on the death of a pet. I experienced something similiar and I have never been able to replace the animal I loved, I know some people advise you to do exactly that. I just have many memories connected to that particular animal and I think that the longer you have a particular pet in your life, the less inclined you are to replace the memories of that animal, with something new. So I don't have any pets right now...but if I do, I'd be inclined to go for something similiar. Good grief! :'( An herb garden is a nice place to be buried, I'd like the thought of that myself and perhaps if I put it in my will, maybe they'd honor my wishes, but like everything so far, given the chance, they'd screw it up. :'(
3. Oh, this election.....please, please! I spent most of the afternoon out in the swamp fishing and now that I'm home I don't dare turn on the tv cause I'm sick, sick, sick of hearing it all....guess I'll water my tomatoes, and work on my novel.

So far none of the declared states is a surprise, although NC is a disappointment. Even so, it's not considered one of the "prime tier" states to win. Ohio, Florida & Pennsylvania: still the ones to watch.
The only "bad" news I've heard is that young voters did not turn out in expected numbers, but the expectations may have been unreasonably high.
P.S. Word is that Barack Obama won his race. :)

I don't think the gay marriage bans are necessarily a bad thing: call me a kook or a revolutionary, but anything that brings this issue out in the open to be thrashed on American TV screens presents an opportunity for progressive change.
Every state ballot initiative presents an opportunity to raise this issue in households all across the country throughout 2004, and this is a potentially divisive issue within the GOP itself. I look to see more of that delicate flower Mary Cheney in the news!
Air America Radio has the most incredible lineup of female pundits commenting on the election tonight! Janeane Garofalo, Randi Rhodes, Katherine Lanpher, Rachel Maddow....
I gotta admit: even as a gay man I'm a little turned on

Because they don't like to believe they're in the working class.
I can't believe anyone who's literate votes for him. Well, except for business executives making or soon to be making seven (or more) digit incomes.
I also can't believe anyone who cares about this country votes for him.

No reliable results tonight...
Apparently Bush is (barely) carrying crucial Florida, but the margin is less than the number of provisional ballots cast -- and the provisional ballots won't be counted (by law) till Thursday.
