The Rivers Edge was filmed at my high school and all over town. When I watched the movie I kept saying "that's Sunland Park" "theres that gas station in Sun Valley" (it's not there anymore though). I think my butt is in one of the walking down the hall shots.

The stone house in the movie; there are houses all over town like that.

Megan woke up at 3am, I was asleep on the couch (again) she fell back asleep next to me within sceonds but I wanted to be a good mom so I took her back to bed and she was whiney-crying saying that there was monsters in her room :(. I was so tired and out of it that I started freaking out thinking "what if there REALLY is a monster in her room" I sprayed some water and said "NO MONSTERS" and she was back to sleep in no time but was whimpering "monsters".

She has no memory of last night and I'm not going to remind her.

Vibrancy has been my weapon of mass destruction, next week I'll have to use the industrial strength version.

I realize the presidential election will be decided by voters who aren't informed enough to ALREADY KNOW how they'll vote. They better bring their erasers, cause there aren't any on the pencils.

Sorry, I just had to vent a little, now I'll go back to composing my emotional symphony.

I need to get to bed early tonight, to get up for the #$!@$! jury duty.

I don't understand why, given that my county has two Superior Court locations, they can't assign people to the nearer one. A 25 minute walk, or an hour and a half on public transportation. That's the difference between the places, for someone living here.

If I lived further north, or further from BART, it would be a two hour trip by public transport. Luckily, I can take a car, so it'll only be about 40 minutes, it being rush hour.

Research has been found to be the leading cause of cancer in rats!

When Heinz ketchup leaves the bottle, it travels at a rate of 25 miles per year.

If the population of China walked past you in single file, the line would never end because of the rate of reproduction.

Helquin

Even though I'm a big believer in civic responsibilities, I gotta admit that jury duty was just awful. For 4 of 5 days, I was in a sort of "holding pen" of potential jurors, to be available for the selection process IF the need arose.

One of the 5 days, I was part of a jury that served a more-or-less ceremonial role observing the city's formal appropriation of property due to the (absent) owner's failure to pay taxes.

The most interesting facet of the experience was the glimpse into the perversely ordered & frenetically busy little world of lawyers, cops, judges & functionaries -- always buzzing away in the background of our lives.

And the old Cuyahoga County courthouse has some exquisite handcarved ornamentation. Gotta give props to those 19th-century craftsmen. :)

I have been dismissed from jury service, since I can't possibly afford to take two weeks off, and the studio can't afford to pay me for work I don't do.

This has me wondering if I'll ever be in a financial and work situation where I'd be able to do things like jury service.

I rather enjoyed the trip down there, since I borrowed my father's Miata (my car wouldn't survive the freeway) and got to drive most of the way against the horrendous commute, lauching at all the people who commute an hour or two into San Francisco each day.

They no longer pay for the first day of jury service - since California and all its counties are strapped for cash - so I don't even get fifteen bucks for the half day.

In fact, I paid $2 for parking (the county doesn't even own the courthouse parking lot), so I come out even further behind for showing up to confirm that I can't afford to serve on the jury.

i have been asked by three people already if they can give her parent's my number as a parent contact.... who else??? there aren't any others out there and i wished so much for someone when we started to go through it....

the little girl has OTC- which is the specific disorder that is almost always fatal in neonatal boys.... :( and not so bad in girls (because it is X-linked) which is why she didn't present with symptoms until she was that old....

isn't it pathetic that i am excited to know there is another family out there in my city going through what we did??? i hope they call if they want to talk.... she's under all the same people as harrison was, winnipeg, saskatoon and here!!!

The Lone Ranger was also, well, legendary...

Sure, it would be great if they paid you something like enough to offset slightly your time. That's not really the point here. The point is, if I were to be on that jury, the rent would not get paid this month.

Lotsa companies (and almost all government jobs) pay you for a few days (or sometimes longer) on jury duty, but the studio can't afford that.

Nor can it afford to pay me well enough to build up any savings to speak of, to have something to fall back on in case of doing civic duty or whatnot.

Which is why I was speculating on what it would be like to be in a situation which would make it possible to be on a jury. And whether it'll ever happen.

p.s. Shouldn't that be "Evaglade" or perhaps "Ev'glade"? ;)

Hammerquill - I hope you realize that civic duty is never monetarily feasible...more just a test of our own morality, our patience, and an opportunity to create. Of course they never pay you enough for being there, heh heh...but just look at The Lone Ranger, he did it all for free. And he was a fabulous individual...Lorrell

And whether it'll ever happen.

p.s. Shouldn't that be "Evaglade" or perhaps "Ev'glade"? ;)

FYI - If ya live South Florida it's called "Da Glades" cause we all knew it wasn't gonna last fer EVER. tsk :'( and I hope you got to read my POST #20533 . There's some interesting things about watching the judicial system in progess, but profitability isn't one of them and in some cases being a juror has been life-threatening....the bigger the case, the scarer it becomes. Just think of those people on the Scott Peterson case....it just drags on and on, but they are involved in a legendary landmark ....from a judicial point of view....they are making law.
The average person will say they dislike lawyers...until they need one and doctors too, get the same bad rap, I've noticed. Never de less, most of my art is dependent upon purchases by these very same people, so I find it difficult to bite the hand that's feeding me. Some of them are good and others very evil, but that's about true of everything and everyone. It's sad that the judicial system is now being constrained by the "money vs. time" thingie at so many different levels.
I am so FREAKED OUT BY WHAT IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW IN FLORIDA WITH THE VOTE...we may have an instant replay of 2000...ya just don't understand how cliff hanging it is....I have been bombarded by surveys, poll takers, ballot delivery, etc..etc...AND PLENTY OF PENCILS WITH NO ERASERS...!!!! and then there's Jethro, our guvner...oh please,...augghh! I don't really give a rat's butt that he's a republican or democrat but can't he play fair and quit sending Kathyn Harriss and Anne Colter out to strut their  stuff in front of the voting locations, those babes need to be home praying!

i wish i could just go curl up in a ball and cry. 2 facts below are part of why:

when we had the meeting, i had told the doctor, the chief of staff, that i didn't want to ever step foot on the maternity ward again, that i didn't htink they should have ever accepted me in the first place. and i have to tell you, it felt like i had knife stuck in my heart when he said "yep, you're absolutely right, we shouldn't have"

well, i expected both of them to be born dead, because from what i know about premature labor is that if y9ou deliver naturally your baby is gonna die, and so i figured well, they're gonna be dead by the time they get out. i was not expecting my second son to be born alive. and then to place him on my chest and for them to tell me they weren't going to do anything. i can not even put into words how helpless i felt when i heard his cry. and when i was holding him and looking down at him and knowing there was absolutely nothing i could do. you know, he turned to me at the sound of my voice, and his little hand curled around my pinky,

Gwensdad told a friend of his at work that we were invited to an election night party called "Hanging with Chad and his Left-Leaning Friends". The friend (who is African American) asked if we were going to be the only white people there and couldn't believe it when Gwensdad said no.

We are going to take a picture to prove that there really are white democrats in Memphis.

We will be wearing hanging chad sweatshirts (made by moi) to this party.

I have heard that the early voting places here are packed and that early voting is up 70-something percent. I'm going to wait and go to the poll next Tuesday. I like the sense of community I feel voting along with people all over the country.

Speaking of the election...

I received these emails this morning.

The fate of the world will be to move into an era of globalism, culminating in a world government, a world religion, and a world economic system. Sadly, that new world order will eventually be led by an evil person that the Bible calls the Antichrist. During his 7 year quest for world domination, over half the people in the world will die!

Kerry and his globalism? We should know better.

Has anyone ever listened to the Bible and regretted it? I don't think so.

And

you know kerry wants a global government? sounds like he's the one to push us into the arms of the antichrist. read on.

i really really pray you hear what is being said! i thoroughly believe if kerry with all of his lies and betrayals is the next president, we're doomed. he's lied so very many times. i don't know how anyone could believe what he's said. i know people really WANT to believe he can lower taxes and get us more jobs while working with global peace, but his methods aren't explained. he's been proven to say one thing and then turn around and say the exact opposite with such gusto. he'd full of crap. i think he's evil and wants to suck God out of the rest of the world and shove us into the end of time. don't let the pretty picture distort the evil painter. he's evil. he'll ruin our world. bush is pro God. He may have made mistakes, but he's been very honest and up front about being a Christian and wanting to keep America free. Kerry wants one government for the world. The bible has prophecized about the end of the world coming after the world is run by one government. Please hear me.

I love ya. Sunny

These are from two of my close friends. They're freaking because I'm voting for Kerry.

Religion in my community verges on fanaticism.

i would finish tests before anyone else, damn near always, and would check and recheck and triple check my work until three or so people turned their tests in first. i didnt want to be made fun of for finishing so soon.

Then I'd usually just give up and hand it in first anwyays, after sitting there wasting half an hour

Yep, in my math final first year of college, I accidentally did the final for the second half of my class (math 112 instead of math 111 which i was in), handed it in, almost left when the teacher noticed my mistake, so i came back in and did the proper final...only 2 other people had finished by the time i was done THAT one :o

I went for a ride around Crystal Lake and saw my pal Dorothy sitting out on her front porch. First time since the Jeanne cane thingie.

She doesn't have a car or a library card but she wanted to get a library card, so we went to the library and she showed them her utility bill, as proof of domicle in town, but she had to have picture ID card and since she doesn't drive she doesn't have a DL with a picture ID, but she doesn't get to vote cause you need it for that too, but even if she was, the FL voters registration card doesn't require a picture, but you have to show picture ID when you go to the polls as well as your voters registration card, so then, I got to thinking,(here Ah go again!) Why not have it mandatory to have your picture ID on your Voters card? duh ah huh? It makes sense cause not everyone has a DL but you still have to have pic ID... if your only form of ID is a birth certificate, just like her, you are skewered. . .it's sort of like a puppy chasing it's tail...ruff ruff ;)

The Camera Nikon 950 in Black case

Writing skills are not the point (except that you'll build them by doing NaNoWriMo).

Writing quality or interestingness of subject is not the point: the motto of NaNoWriMo is "No Plot? No Problem!" No one's going to read it, unless you want them to.

Writing quantity per day is the point. It's pure exercise, and a type of writing exercise you rarely get. And you get incredible support.

You also get a whole 'nother forum to goof off on!

chunkymonkey

Run With the Horsemen by Ferrol Sams is a fabulous book.

I have made it through the Volunteer appreciation luncheon. The only problem we had was that the party started at 11 and they all showed up at 10:15. We just had to herd them into another room until we were ready.

This is the 5th time I have been in charge of this luncheon. Two years ago we had to cut it short when an elderly member of the band that was playing had a heart attack and died right in the middle of lunch.

All that talk of NaNowrimo has got me interested, too. Maybe I can learn to write something other than technical papers!

I drove my Toyota to work today, after not driving it for about a month and discovered rotting tomatos in the trunk. What a disgusting, stinking mess! Luckily, they were in the plastic bag from the store I bought them at (a month ago) so all I really had to do was pick up the sopping bag and toss it. But still - I nearly threw up!

I think (after the stink goes away) I'm going to drive the Toyota to work from now on. Gas prices are too high and are costing me a small fortune to drive the Montero.

In the mail today I got an empty Subway cup capped with an odd piece of plastic, lined with gold glitter, enclosed in a Post Office loose/damaged items bag, with ...you guessed it... a Florida return address.

I got a bill from MCI that was about the usual amount, except that it was for two months. Seems I didn't notice not receiving last month's bill. Customer service was excellent when I called them, though.

I really wish I had soup or proper makings thereof. It would hit the spot right now.

the only other option from sleeping on my bed here, is to sleep sitting up @ my computer, or to sleep on my floor

which is not much of an option since sleeping on a concrete slab would be more cushy

I have been meaning to ask you if you know anything about dancing on pointe. Megan likes to dance on the tops her toes, like with them curled under and the nails on the floor, and I wondered if that would make her a candidate for being a good ballerina?

I have slept on the couch almost every night this month. I do it because I cannot get my mind to shut up when I lay in a dark quiet room, so I stress and worry about all our bills and cannot get to sleep. So If I lay on the couch and watch TV, the alpha waves zone me out and I fall asleep watching Trauma life in the ER or something like that.

*I* think harrison will be completely off his tube feeds before christmas!!!! in fact, maybe before december!!! he's eating whole meals at a time now and i am sure would sit in his chair and carb out all day if i let him... he has a definite fondness for noodles, rice and all things STARCH!!!

which is probably not the best thing for him.... he'll be wider than he's tall if he keeps that up!!! :P which is fine by me... as long as he's eating by mouth... though he certainly does have his spurts- he ate almost ONLY chicken for two days... so i guess that's just like any other toddler out there.....

We had to wait until we were about 11 or so to go on pointe. And then we could only do it if the teacher felt our feet were strong enough. Pointe shoes look all pink and pretty, but the "box" part where your toes are is made of something stiff and hard. It can get pretty painful and your feet can get really torn up. But we all loved it anyway!

If Megan likes to dance then put her in an age-appropriate dance or dance movement class and see how she does.

One of the ladies at the volunteer luncheon yesterday told me she thought the food and the music was horrible. <_<

At the end of October, every year, for the past 4 years my hubby's left foot slowly swells up and becomes terribly painful. He has been through all the diagnostic procedures to figure out what's wrong and still no answers.

It has happened a few other times of the year, but the last 2 weeks in October has been consistantly the time it happens.

He complains NON STOP and whines, and I made the mistake one time of getting crabby at him and saying "Yes I know it hurts, but will you please just shut up about it?" My reasoning was whining and bitching is going to change the fact it hurts so just stop.

When I visited my best friend in April of 2001 she was totally opposed to cell phones and said "if someone can't get ahold of me at home or work they can leave a message. I don't want people to be able to find me wherever I am."

Feb 2002, at my baby shower she had a cel phone...and RAN to answer it when it rang.

NOW that's the only way to get ahold of her, they never answer their home phone and don't have an answering machine. (I guess they only have the home phone line for the internet)

What bites is that this is the THIRD time I have been here today. I came down once around 9AM to forward the shop phone to his cell and to pick up a check so I could deposit it and finally make our house payment...then I had to come back down because I found out (while at the grocery store) that the forwarding did not go through. ARGH!

When I was here the second time, I noticed the package was waiting and volunteered to take the package to the UPS hub 10-15 minutes away and he said, "no we'll just go back down before Alex gets there" well "we'll" turned out to mean ME.

While we were working one of them said she hoped we did not have the luncheon in the same place next year because the food was horrible and the music was horrible and it was all so horrible.

The result of this is that these volunteers will never again have an event that involves a meal or entertainment. At least as long as I'm the one who runs the program. They are not coming to sort any more either.

Try being pregnant...they torment you everyday for close to a year.

But atleast with preganancy you get something good out of it.

When I first started dating my hubby he was grumpy that I was on my period, I told him "someday you are going to hope to God it comes." And not too long after we had a 'scare'...so I was right. ;)

Are you a New Englander, Lorrell, or is anadama bread popular in other parts of the country?

Baby slings are the best invention ever.
I'm (slowly) on my way to the kitchen to make french toast for breakfast.

i keep opening chain game windows and then i turn to talk to namelessgirl and come back to the window to find i have completely lost interest and it gets closed, without a reply. and shes been hanging on the bathroom door for ten minutes, talking! its distracting!

it would be nice on livejournal if i could log in as more than one username, its getting out of hand. i should be deleting my tracks but im attached to that record of how things were, even if i have yet to go back and look at that shit.

my affection for many people has overshadowed my spite at a certain male entity. hmmmm, i dunno if im gonna just go all out and post it. oh fuck you. no. :P

Definition: [a-nuh-DAM-uh] An early American yeast bread flavored with cornmeal and molasses. Legend says this bread was created by a New England farmer plagued by a lazy wife who served him the same cornmeal-molasses gruel every day. One morning, the disgusted farmer grabbed the bowl of gruel, tossed in some flour and yeast, and began stirring like crazy, all the while muttering angrily, "Anna, damn 'er!"

I learned today why you should never leave the house without a camera... Accidentally stumbled into the preparations for our downtown Halloween parade today. Perfect light, costumes & floats in various stages of assembly -- and this is the one day in the past 3 months I didn't have a camera on me!

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do NaNoWriMo... Has anyone started a Forums thread on that yet?

Have you been on their forums? They have cool chain games.
I've nothing today; in my own defense that was my goal.

Went to the fabric store today and only spent $22.

I don't have to go back to work until Wednesday! I'm going to have an art/craft fest until then.

My in-laws came over today so the FIL could help Gwensdad do some home repairs. I did not get out of the house before they came. MIL told me that she would give me some money to get some sandwiches or sandwich meat and I told her I already had plenty of sliced smoked turkey. I bought groceries and spent an hour fixing everyone lunch before I went out again. When I got back they were gone and their lunch was in the fridge uneaten. <_<

Helquin, I did NaNoWriMo last year and it was a blast! I really liked the intensity of working everyday and trying to meet a goal. Wish I could do it again this year, but it will probably be a long time before I have the time again.

Went on a walk today and got a chocolate milk shake.

J has the baby and I have a few spare moments to myself. I decided that I should write in my journal, but it's been so long since I wrote there, I can't even find it!

I guess Ya'all wanna know.
No, I didn't get it from New England and I really didn't know much about it other than it uses Molasses & Cornmeal, both are ingredients I keep stocked. I found the recipe in a bread book. I use Molasses as a sweetner because white sugar doesn't have the nutrient value going on at all. I like Molasses in Coffee and on Vanilla Ice Cream or Waffles, muffins, cookies. It's a good bread for sandwiches and goes nice with cheeses. T
