I have to go get my new photo license today. <_<

And I have a bunch of other crap to get done...Looks like I'll be working on this report through the weekend because I'm not as far along as I should be. Too much distaction and family business gets in the way when I work from home.

My ex husband called a little while ago and we got into a big argument. Thank God I divorced this man. I think this everytime I talk to him.

making vegetable casserole for thanksgiving, one thing out of hte way for sunday!!! making homemade cranberry sauce too, though i am pretty sure my mom and i will be the only ones who will eat it... <_<

dont' have to make, pies, i assigned that particular chore to my mom... nobody would want to eat it if i made them!!! i am NOT a pastry person, too lazy to make a proper crust... :P

i'll be thankful to be at home for thanksgiving.... i have a message in to harrison's tx coordinator to call me as soon as she gets the tacro level and let me know what is up..... though i guess i should be thankful we're home already anyhow!!! he should still be there as an outpatient, but we were lucky and he got discharged really early, so i am thankful for that!!!

It's gonna be my San Francisco day today.

That means I'm going to run around town and do lots of little errands which will take up a lot of time and make me fell productive but in the long run mean little.

Like-
go to the post office, drop off postcards at various places, have a chai tea and read meh book, do some dishes, and some laundry and go to scrapbooking store, though I can't afford it ATM, and do artsy stuff when I come home.

thats' an awesome plan.

I'm loving the fact that you can do almost everything but Drivers Licences at AAA.

I miss being a AAA member, for registration stuff and maps (and of course the free towing if you need it), but they've stopped doing traveler's cheques, which astonished me, so a good quarter of the reason for having them is gone.

I don't have the money to subscribe anyway.

I woke up as late as a normal late day, today. Guess I'm over jet lag

i'm supermom today... i've gotten more done today than all the first part of the week!!! course i was sick in bed for a day and a half and out of town for a day... but let me pretend i accomplished a lot, okay???

i made cranberry sauce and a veggie casserole for thanksgiving and i have a big dish of cabbage rolls (my fave food in the world i think!!!) in the oven cooking for sunday... i also did dishes and laundry and got the toy room and julian's bedroom cleaned up well... and cleaned both bathrooms, top to bottom!!! okay, that's a lie, i didn't touch the shower inthe bedroom bathroom (we don't use it at all and there are a few dead bugs in it that i refuse to investigate further, so daddy will be cleaning that when he gets home!!!) and i swept the leaves off the deck... again.... sigh... i'd leave the yard and deck till the trees were bare, but this is sask... we could have a blizzard tonight and snow till june, so gotta get them as they fall!!!

but it's time for a nap i think......... even supermom needs a powernap.... B)

Not to mention the action figure someone seems to have elected governor.

I first had guavas when I was five or six, and have loved them ever since.

They were hard to find for a long time, though.

I miss Florida fruit stands: you just stop anywhere, get something cheap and it's totally fresh and just right, better than you get anywhere else except just in season at a farmer's market, and usually not too expensive.

I, too, wonder how cb is doing.

My parents and their next-door neighbors have had a friendly policy of mutual garden-raiding in operation recently. Neighbors have forests of mizuna and basil, my parents have inexhaustible thickets of a few herbs, and an apple tree gone wild, so they just walk across the nonexistent fence into the other's yard and pick what they want.

Tomorrow they have plans for dinner with the neighbors: harvest a few bushels of basil and make a huge pesto meal (and freeze a ton of it), with a big mizuna salad, and another apple pie for dessert.

I saw another great bumpersticker today, a precise graphical imitation of the most common Bush Cheney stickers: Bush Orwell '04

bonus: My father mentioned an even subtler one, again just like the normal Republican ones but: Bush Cheney 1984
311498

Bush supporters around here have these little round black stickers on their cars that say "W the president".

A friend from work offered me one that says "F the president".

I wished someone at the last debate had asked Bush why he let the assault weapons ban expire. Maybe it will come up at the next debate.

No need for "did" in the past tense.... I think people have it all wrong when they try to do it all at once. I was almost absurdly grown up early, in a few ways; worked for me. Other ways took well into my twenties, some I'm still working on, and of course, some ways I hope never to grow up. There's no deadline, after all.

cb is in Portland, as far as anyone can tell; she doesn't have any need to be online while there, though.

I really wanted to get a picture for y'all, but it would seem kind of weird: "Hi, can I take a picture of your baby to post on the internet? It's just that some friends of mine online have this thing for stuffed monkeys...." Might not go over well.

well, i didn't vote for him but i was disappointed in Gore more than anything. i live in florida and so i'm a little touchy on the whole issue. but did you know if Gore had won his home state of Tennessee, he would have won the election and the Florida fiasco would have never happened? i blame 2000 on Gore. he should have mopped the floor with Shrub during the debates.

Though I have moved from respecting Nader for his integrity to detesting him for his tunnel-visioned megalomaniacal idiocy in the course of the last year, I still agree with 90% of his politics, which is more than I can say for Kerry. If I were to vote according to policies and platforms, I'd vote Green (though I'd no longer vote for Nader for anything on the national stage).

But that's not the point. The point is that Bush is far too dangerous to be allowed to rule the country, to wield the power the presidency gives him at home and abroad. He must be removed from office. It is an emergency. He has taken this country into the most dangerous position it has been in since the 1930s, or maybe the 1860s, and is hellbent on making things worse.

I wish I could vote for someone I wholly approved of, but that'll never happen. Not ever.

That's because even the Greens are disgusted with him now, and wouldn't nominate him. Even though he managed to get one of the best California Greens (Camejo) to sign on his ticket as VP.

He's running as an independent, and that requires a pretty big petition drive to get on the ballot in California.

And too many other people are disgusted with him, too...

hammerquill
10-10-2004, 07:23 PM
Nader had two chances to make his political career meaningful, beyond the first time he got the Greens on the ballot nationally: he could have run for Governor of California a couple of years ago, or in the recall election we just had. I don't know if he could have won against Schwarzenegger, but I bet he could have won the real election hands down. And if he had run in the recall election, the Ahnold might never have entered the fray.

Governor of California would be an excellent job for him. President would not. But he's stuck on running for President now. So he lost his opportunities to do something truly useful. That's how I lost my respect for him.

I gotta say, I'm more impressed than ever with how much we take for granted... Every time I would read something like "highly corrosive, dissolves flesh," I'd think: "hmm... somebody might have had to learn that the hard way."

I learned that pewter today is an alloy of tin and antimony rather than the traditional tin and lead.

I'm not a big fan of gold, but it does have some cool physical properties.

End of alchemy report. :D

hammerquill
10-10-2004, 10:23 PM
Yeah, Gold is just way bleeping cool.

Dilution does great things for corrosives. I dip my hand into sulphuric acid every day. Very, very, very dilute sulphuric acid.

Normal lead-free solder they use on copper plumbing pipes is 'modern pewter' - in the SCA they use solder to make coins.

Helquin, you made me chuckle out loud.

I think Nader is being selfish and self-centered about this election; Reed is right that the point is to get Bush the hell out of the oval office.

Of course, if you MUST cast a protest vote, you could always write in Pat Paulsen, even though he's dead now.

~ Last week I took the week off of work because I had vacation time to use up. I didn't get too much done but I did work at a craft fair last Saturday & Sunday with my dad because he was selling his "stone crafts" - that was fun. I also attempted to dye my hair red again (a day before Larrissa did! Coincidence!) but it didn't come out as dark as I hoped. The rest of my days off were mostly spent shopping, sleeping and watching movies.

~ On Friday my boyfriend, my sister and I drove to an aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut where I pet a ray, and then we went to IKEA and to a lighthouse in New Haven. It was a good time.

~ I joined a gym with my friend yesterday. Never in a million years did I actually think I would be the type of person to work out at a gym, but it's only $10 per month and I have many pounds to lose so I decided to go for it.

I went with my Mom to Rochester this weekend to visit some family. I slept a good deal of the time, but at least it was a change of scenery. :P

I am un-naturally concerned about my spleen rupturing (which I've head can happen with mono)

It doesn't help my fears any that I am having chest pain today...BAD!

I tend to worry anyways, but now I am practically CONVINCED that my spleen might rupture and I might die.

I know...I'm probably overreacting.

Ok...well, gonna go try to sleep and not think about my spleen and other concerns I am having.

I bought a new book online and it arrived today. Perhaps I'll read that.

Just get my mind away from worry...

Happy Thanksgiving, all you inhabitants of the frozen tundra up north!

I don't think I've ever specifically worried about my spleen rupturing.

The pitifully senile dog got woken up when I got here, and is now wandering around in her usual restless counterclockwise circles. I wonder if I can get her to relax again.

In a couple of days Eve will be one third as far away, timezone-wise!

Today the air is an almost cuddly warmth, with random, unsteady breezes, also unusually warm.

It feels great, but this is official October fire weather; the fire departments are probably on full alert, and possibly actually on patrol.

There's just no convincing Donatella (the dog) to go back to sleep.

Donatella was named by, and is still I suppose technically owned by, the Italian guy who runs the foundry here, where they cast large bronze sculptures. So it's actually a legitimate Italian name, and possibly also a play on the sculptor...

My parents actually have a friend whose name is Donatella, too. It gets confusing.

I finally got her to go back to sleep.

Skilyne,

Your spleen is located under your ribs on the left side, in front. The ribs protect it under normal circumstances. Mono infection causes the spleen to enlarge, and sometimes extend below the ribs. If you sustain a blow to that area, or fall hard, sometimes the spleen can rupture. If that happens, emergency surgery can be done to remove the spleen. You can survive without a spleen. So, try not to worry, but do take care of yourself, and rest as much as possible. The only reason I know this is that my son had mono, when he was 8 years old, and wasn't allowed to play outside until his spleen had gone back to normal size. Also, my dad had his spleen removed when the doctor discovered that he had hemolytic anemia; the spleen was destroying some of his red blood cells. He had a very rare blood condition, where some of the cells were football-shaped. He did fine after the removal of the spleen.

My parents had baskets of "stuff" (including lots of coins) on top of the refrigerator so I would pull a barstool over and climb up there to pick out enough coins to buy some ice cream. :)

~ On the way to the gym last night, as I was riding in my friend's car, some guy in a batman suit chased us down the road!

i feel so tired all the time now!!!

i think it is a cross between me not remembering to take y prenatal vitamins and waking up 10 or more times a night when harrison is rocking himself back to sleep- he likes to bang his head/leg/elbow, etc against the crib as he rocks... he's such a strange kid.. :P

tomorrow- we are moving harrison's crib into julian's bedroom!! which means my hubby and i will have our 'own room' until baby comes, harrison cant' wake me up (in theory... the baby monitor will be in their room though, so....) through the night anymore, and when julian tells me in his broken hearted voice 'me all alone in bed at night' in order to gain a few more minutes before bed, i can tell him he's got a roommate now and nothing to complain about....

though the next thing will be him telling me about how harrison is picking on him... :P

So cute nymphette!!! :)

Ok...so my keyboard is still sticking on this site...and this site only. It really slows down my typing time and I don't care for random letters not wanting to work nicely.

I'm so confused about so many things. Him, the other him, work, moving, being sick all the time, him again...UGH!!!

I'm in a sucky whiny mood...I'm sorry.

~ Two extra weeks of work equals two extra weeks of MONEY too, so maybe sticking with it for a while longer isn't so bad Larrissa.

~ I have strange Subway habits/quirks. I'm sure Larrissa would find them amusing, or annoying. :P

~ Sometimes I just want to poke my nose in everyone else's business and find out all of their secrets. That's YOU - yes YOU! If you are reading this, I want to know about all of the ghosts in your closet, your juicy gossip, etc. I don't mean to be rude, I'm just nosy.

I made cookies and burned 75% of them.

The sun just came out for the first time in days and days.

I'm going to go look at Lilac's Bush-Kerry link again. It is hilarious!
