1 - I have the best excuse for horrid newspaper telemarketers: I'm allergic to newspapers. (Really. Something in the ink gives me a rash.)
2 - Upon watching Highlander 2 after several years, I've realized just how atrocious it was.
3 - I'm on my own this week, and it feels nice to have the house to myself. I went food shopping and bought such things that I won't have to cook all week. Yay!

1. When I lived in SE Idaho there were hot baths (not hot tubs, but real mineral baths, some contained and some in their natural state) everywhere...Here in N. Idaho where it's colder and I'm more stressed, the closest one is Lolo in Montana--two hours away.
2. I'm helping pack up a friend today so she can move.
3. My ten-year-old wrote an essay on ununbinium yesterday that made me proud. Circular essay, beginning with the idea that the element is very mysterious, moving through several examples, and then coming back to the idea of its mysteriousness with the assertion that it has no uses...except to be studied in hopes its mysteries can be revealed.

Mejaka - sounds like a fun essay! Your kidlet must be pretty bright. I've never heard of that element.
1 - It's a good thing I decided to log in before I left or I would have forgotten to return the DVDs I rented.
2 - My bedroom looks like a tornado hit, but it was just me.
3 - In high school my friends thought I should make a good drill instuctor because I have such a loud commanding voice. The Marines tried to recruit me, but not because of that.

Today's random topic is the weather!
1. It's snowing!!!!! Deep soft snow decorates our balcony and the neighbourhood's roofs!
2. It snows here about once a year and then the city stops. Pros: no school for me, no work for my man. Cons: no post-office that has a package for me.
3. Rt. 1, the only road that leads to the Capital, is blocked about 25 KM west. That means no snow tourism today!!! Yay for anti-socialism!!!

1. The boy that I think has a crush on me is three years younger than me. I don't know if he realizes how much older I am, although I try to work it into conversation now and then. I realize 3 years isn't that much, but when I could easily be a fourth-year and he's a fresh-from-high-school first-year, it still seems wrong. I seem to recall yelling "Cradlerobber!" at my friend who did it last summer.
2. Today I arranged for a cream-pie-to-the-face to be sent to my friend Shannon tomorrow afternoon. My college runs a fundraiser for Engineers Without Borders and a summer camp: $10 to pie someone, $10 for them to redirect the pie, and $20 to buy the pie and pie no one. It's a great idea, I think. I'm a little scared that he'll send it back, though, and I don't have ten bucks to save myself!
3. I should get up early tomorrow and go to a free pancake breakfast and work all morning before my afternoon classes. The key word there is should.

2. I want to homestead, and I have no idea of where to start making that dream a reality. I don't have much faith in my ability for success in the business world, but somehow I *know* I would be good at living self-sufficiently without it!
3. Ummmm, I'm looking for a good design to make a toilet paper roll cover to keep my cat from wasting entire double rolls... http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ...anyone have a good template?

1. The last page of Charlotte's Web always makes me teary. I love that book.
2. I have a huge hatred of wire hangers. I hate how they get all tangled together and catch on each other when you try to take one off a closet rod. I hate how they always make me mad, and then I yank on them really hard, and they come bouncing off the rod and straight into my face. I HATE WIRE HANGERS!!

1) we watched A.I today. Yet another Spielberg spiel, full of pedophiliac motives, emotional blackmail and kitsch. What I really hate about it is that even though I am well aware of all this crap I cried during the (pseudo) cathartic moments.
2) Have you ever noticed how in the movies (and in the mass media in general) brown hair is the signifier of "bad" while blond signifies "good"? It was the same in my family. My sis-in-law is a natural blond (recently dyed to black and then brown), and she was always considered as the good, nice daughter-in-law (or that's how the paranoid me felt). But now that they're moving to her hometown in the U.S the brounette - c'est moi - is the good one. Whatever.
3) I signed up to way too many lmao's recently. But they're all so good that I just had to! So far, have been keeping up fine though.

Three not so random activism facts:
1. I **just** discovered the current events folder. no joke. i posted some fiery stuff in there and i'm all worked up now. and i'm really sad because it's not all that active now. i feel like i missed out on all the good stuff.
2. i went and saw vagina monologues last night. it was awesome. there was a speaker before the presentation who said that since the bush administration took office, hundreds of women's shelters have had to close because of very sly budget cuts instated by dubya to further fund this joke of a war. the woman said that maybe we should concentrate on fighting terror in our own homes against domestic violence a little more. Good point.
3. Suburbangoth has invited me to come to Omaha and see the Guerrilla Girls with her!! It gets better, she has a friend that set the whole damn thing up and there is a good chance that we will get to go with her to take them out to dinner! EEEK! I nearly wet myself every time i think of that. Feminist art movements are sooooo cool.

1. I fell down half a flight of stairs last week. I was coming downstairs to leave for work, and I had an armload of stuff to put in my car, and the toe of my shoe caught the carpet on the step, and I went tumbling down. I tried to catch myself, but ended up doing a sort-of sideways forward roll, landing on my side at the foot of the stairs. My mom came running, saying, "oh my god, are you alright?!?" and once I figured out that I was indeed okay, I started laughing my ass off.
2. I really like squirrels. I would like to have one as a pet.
3. I met Verne Troyer and Phil Fondacaro (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Fondacaro,%20Phil) yesterday. Verne was busy talking to my boyfriend's nephew, so I talked to Phil about his appearance on CSI. He was very nice and I got my picture taken with him.

1. This morning I felt a little depressed.
2. In order to prove I wasn't depressed, I took Miss Anna to the beach in the bike trailer and fed the ducks (and the sun shone!), and then cleaned the common areas of the house, swept, mopped, vacuumed.
3. I felt the same but at least I was feeling it in a clean house.
Bonus: 4. I spend all day anxiously anticipating Brett's arrival from work, but by the time we get everyone in bed there's not near enough time for the togetherness and reassurance I need right now.
5. He weighed 185 this morning (he's been losing from the stress). He's losing his spare tire but his face looks gaunt.
6. The plumber whose been working on the basement remodel came today. (He lives down the street. He is too handsome to be real and today he even smelled nice. No wonder Brett prefers to be around when he comes, LOL). He was impressed with Brett's stud walls, though a little confused by the way he did them until I explained that the floor joists don't run perpendicular to the foundation walls at each end in that part of the basement.

Mejaka, I'm sorry you're feeling blue. Here's some loves for you! xoxoxo!!
1. Even though I feel like i'm growing up too fast, I now know that I still have a little bit of teenage stubbornness in me. How do I know that? Even though I can hardly keep my eyes open and all i wanna do is go to bed, i won't go to bed -- ONLY because I don't have to get up early in the morning, so this is my night to stay up late. Staying up for the principle of it. *tsk*
2. I like Badger lip balms. The Healing Balm is great for chapped lips!
3. I miss my boyfriend. We're each stuck at our houses because of icy roads. I want a cuddle! *pout*
Bonus
4. I really like the cell phone commercial where Little Richard throws a tantrum and hollers "These are not Little Richard's shoes!"

Oh, I like those, too. I bought my first one because it came in such a cute little tin (yes, I can be a sucker) and was pleased to find very good lip balm inside.
1. I have a line from a song from Les Mis stuck quite firmly in my brain. "it's time for us to decide who we are . . ."
2. My favorite music to study to used to be Gregorian chants.
3. When I was a kid and I felt bad, I could always cheer myself up by thinking of Snoopy. I wish that still worked.

1 - I am behind on my mailings because my allergies are making me very tired. Everything here is shedding spores and pollen like crazy.
2 - When I wrote academic papers I would put in the soundtrack to the Blues Brothers movie and listen over and over. Just that.
3 - I have a fetish for tins. Tins for cookies, mints ... anything that comes in a tin.
Bonus:
4 - I also buy old Pyrex carafes. They are so pretty, all gilded, but useful. I have several now and must restrain myself whilst in thrift stores.
5 - For some reason I am shifting out of nervousness creativity and back into crochet. I'm not that good at crochet, but I can't find any nervous inspiration.

2. I love tins, too, and tend to buy things that come in them.
3. My sisters are trying to give me ideas for work. So far: Substitute teaching, ghost-writing for grad papers, tutoring English, or selling handpainted furniture like the table I painted for Miss Anna. In return, I'm giving them excuses.

1. My most favorite brand of pens are these really cheapo no-name ones that I can only find at Big Lots and sometimes Dollar Stores. They're $1 for a package of 10, and sometimes some of them don't work, but I love the fine points and way they write.
2. I want/need to go to:

~ Kinko's

3. What the hell is the deal with this sucky "whatever!" song? You know, the one where the guy says "I went to the beach and saw Kiki, and she was like 'hey' and I was like 'Whatever!'" That is second stupidest song ever. The first is that "Fever for the Flavor" song. I hate that song with a passion.

katie, i love love love world market!! do you still want to go to the galleries maybe?
i am desperatly avoiding studying for a test that i really haven't studied at all for. here goes.
1. I am a slow burn, but when i do get angry, i am scary. all of my friends get scared when i get really pissed off, like they are in trouble even if i'm not angry at them. kind of funny that a girl as small as me can put such fear in hearts. kinda nice almost!!
2. I made some really great postcard two days ago, using tracing paper and collage, i made these bizarro pregnancy postcards, at first for laurasia's postcards of fear lmao, and i liked them so much that i made three more and sent them out randomly to people that have been kind to me and i thought needed a little kindness themselves! i wish that i had more money to do random acts of kindness. i have gotten a few and i would like to do more to pass it on.
3. I picked pregnancy for my fear postcards, which is true. I hope no one is offended by this, but pregnancy really freaks me out. It always has a little parasitic to me. I know that is really horrible to say, but it's true. and what it does to your body really freaks me out. It all just seems like a scene out of aliens. maybe my fear stems from the fact that i'm pretty sure i would make a terrible mother. who knows.

Let's not forget the part when the little larva comes ripping out a hole that really doesn't seem like it should it be able to get that big. Actually, I'm looking forward to pregnancy and babies except that I'm rather small (okay, I'm a twig), and I'm afraid I'll be one of those rediculous looking skinny pregnant women with my belly sticking out three feet. Wouldn't that throw you balance off? What if I fall over all the time?
1. I came home last night to a to find that the 'puter wasn't working. I didn't realize how crazy reliant I am on this piece of junk. Luckily it was only the power supply, cheap and easy to replace.
2. After lugging the beast to and from the 'puter shop (three blocks away). I plugged it in and it didn't work. The fan plug came loose, but since I know squat about computers and am afraid to open them I had to lug it back to the computer place.

Hey Beja, you can always ask the seller (either before the auction ends, or after) if they'd mind sending it via Media Mail (for papers, books, dvd's, music, videos, etc) -- it's way cheaper than regular mail, or priority. I've found that a lot of sellers don't know about the different mail rates, and they can be really cool about sending things how you want.

This was a great idea. I've had a lot of fun reading everyone's random facts.
Here goes:
1. I have an obsession with names that I consider unusual or at least uncommon. I guess that's because my name is Melissa and there were 5 other Melissa's in my classes til I was in 4th grade. Names I like include: Gia, Aurelia, Verena, and Taewyn. I have considered naming my children some of the names I have found.
2. When I was 6 I had an obsession with the color pink. I even wanted to paint my room two shades of pink. Dark pink walls with light trim. I even constantly wore pink. Then when I was 11 I became obsessed with black. Everything had to be black. And that's how it's been for 11 years now.
3. I have never really been a gamer. In fact most gamers I met I wanted to kill. However, my brother is a gamer, same with my cousin, and later same with my boyfriend (now unofficial fiance) who even started working for a game (EverQuest). And despite the fact that I pretty much dislike computer games, I have a major obsession with The Sims.
Hmm, this appears to have a theme lol

1. I have been very stressed the past week and I'm so exausted from it. I've just been stressed over by something I've been thinking about that I shouldn't worry about, but I can't help it.
2. I saw the movie Chicago and absolutely loved it! I would see it again and again. I never realize how much I love musicals until I watch one.
3. I love Jimmy Fallon. http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif I just saw him do a St. Patrick's Day melody like he does and was tickled since I love the other ones he did. I didn't know any of the songs until the last part (i barely recognized an eminem song, how I have no idea).

1 - Speaking of Saturday Night Live, I went to school with one of the new guys, Jeff Richards. I tutored him in math and English for a year. Then I took an acting class with him at junior college. Never thought I'd see him on SNL.
2 - I can't think of anything to do really. I might clean my room. It needs a good cleaning.
3 - My younger cat likes japanese rice crackers. He crawls into my bathroom cabinet looking for them.

To answer Jen:
1 - Pumpkin thinks that there might be rice crackers down there because they were there! But after he chewed a hole in the bag I moved it to a drawer.
2 - I like Gabriel, but it reminds me a Galadriel and I have a deep fear of Lord of The Rings names. I'm sure I've mentioned that I was close to being Arwen Evenstar.
3 - The spelling of Aerin may be one of the things that makes my nature quite contary. It is halfway between Erin "Peace" and Aeron "goddess of battle and slaughter." Scary.

1. So i was awakened this morning to a phone call from my dad saying "everything is ok, i just want you to know that everything is ok," and of course that freaked me out. i guess last night my cousins were out at the lake of the ozarks and my four year old cousin fell off the ladder coming down from the loft, at least a 20 foot fall, and he hurt his spleen. he was life-flighted all the way to the kansas city children's mercy hospital, where he is now in the icu. There is a very real chance of internal bleeding and everyone is pretty freaked out. i know i am. His grandfather (not the one that we share) used to be a head doctor/ director at the hospital and he says that he is out of the woods. and at least we know he will get first class treatment because of his grandad. but still, i worry for my little buddy......
2. i am supposed to be working on my design project, which is "using lines in space, make a 3d sculpture that makes a statement about time. size and material are not an issue." sometimes i just love how vague and unstructured art classes are.
3. my bathtub is leaking into my kitchen, even when the water isn't running. it's been doing it for months and it's making a huge stain on my kitchen ceiling, and i'm afraid it's rotting the wood holding it up. my landlord denies that it's happening (I still haven't figured out that one) and i can't get the fat cat building inspector to keep his appt. and actually come and see it. i'm about to turn into a real bitch out of sheer necessity.
1. it has been rather warm here, and i have been greatly enjoying it. i am happier and more motivated to do things.
2. i am so excited about gardening season. i have planted marigolds, echinacea, and green beans so far. (indoors) i hope to eventually plant a few more things..perhaps tomatoes, sunflowers, herbs (parsley, oregano, lavender?) and lettuce? i don't have much space to work with, but i'm making do. Bugitha, I know what I wanted to say! (I knew there was something...) My sister who until recently lived in Hollywood, and my parents who also lived nearby, used to go to the coolest Oscar party every year. The host, Barbara Howell, was an exec with Easter Seals or something and used it as a fundraiser. Invitations were kind of exclusive; it was at her own home so she invited her friends. :^ ) (She still has the party, but alas, my family no longer live near enough to go).
The party includes pre-mailings of all the Oscar categories and candidates for voting (which must be mailed back before party night) and prizes for correct guesses. It also includes an Oscar-themed culinary contest in which offerings must somehow reflect the current award-candidate lineup (Mom won once with "Bread Man Walking" and Leslie tied one year with her "Lettuce Forget the Titanic"--a fallen cake frosted in blue, into which she had placed a wedge of Iceberg lettuce and a small toy ship--it tied with a very elaborate and large Titanic model cake...Humor counts, I guess). Partygoers are encouraged to come in costume that also reflects the current year's lineup--either dressed as a character, or punningly attired somehow.
Thought you might find that interesting.

You said, "I still love you."

Cupie-She was a mutt. My dad gave her to my Mom for Valentine's day. She was put down when she was 11 because she had tumors in her brain and lungs. To this day, I still cry over her. She was my favorite. Mom was afraid when we were born she wouldn't like us, but she would guard us and wouldn't let anyone come near us and she let us pull on her tail and stuff. She was such a good dog.
Petal-Half chihuahua half toy terrier. The runt of the litter. She only lived a few months. She caught parvo at the vet when she went in for her shot. She was my dog.
Thistle-Half Chihuahua half toy terrier. Petal's older sister. She caught parvo as well, but survived. She was Dawn's dog. Now she wants Mom and mom only lol. She is 8 now.
Dudet-My grandmother's dog. She was like a poodle mix and something else. Had lots of naked spots. I went with my Uncle (and not the one who cared for her either!) to put her down. Mom and I went to go feed her while my grandmother was first put in the home or hospital (I don't remember which) and found her back legs collapsed and she couldn't walk. 1. I have had far fewer dogs than cats. In sequence, there was Rover (seriously.) who died when I was about three. Then dad dragged home a mutt from the side of the road, Teddy. Dumb as a post, but he was our friend for a solid 15 years. After he died, we got Jake, a border-collie hound cross. He's almost 4 now, and about a hundred pounds. A good farm dog, but not too bright either. He always goes for the head of the cows. Mostly he's a giant throw rug in our living room.
2. I am going to a formal tonight. My dress cost eleven dollars, new. It is sparkly, red, and short. People aren't going to know me to see me.

The idea of buying a pet is ridiculous, they land in our laps more than is good. I think my favorite story was one stormy night my sister was heading out and almost stepped on a fallen baby mourning dove. We named it Pax, kept it in a an old rabbit cage until it was grown and laughed when it tried to imitate our cockatail who wolf whistled.

1) My boyfriend always falls asleep in the middle of movies. Tonight was no exception. That's annoying! At least he doesn't snore or anything...
2) Since everyone is talking about dogs... I think I must have taken over 100 pictures of my dogs with my digital camera over the last 2 days!
3) I've been tired of studying for the last couple of weeks... I can't wait to have my degree and finally have a job that I'll love for more than a few months!

2. I went thrift store shopping today. Didn't get a lot of stuff, but got a few shirts.
3. Between Dawn, my mom, and myself we spent $80. :O

1. Three words: Hot. Hotter. Really-fuckin-HOT!! My workplace has the heater cranked -- yes, even though it's 70 degrees outside. This place is roasting! blech! http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
2. All i can think of is lots of cold drinks, filled to the brim with ice.
3. I can't wait to get outside to a breath of fresh (and in comparison), cool air.

Ok, I'll give this a go!
1. This is my first entry in this thread!
2. I introduced my pet hamster Fudge to my mum's cat Poppy, and Poppy was scared of Fudge! How cute is that!

1. Since I spent a few hours visiting the family pets at my brother's place today, I can't resist adding my list of doggies.
Sugar--huskie/dalmation mix. Loved to sleep in the strawberry patch in my father's garden. At first this frustrated him seeing as how Sugar squashed the plants. But after Sugar's good long life came to an end, my father dug up his beloved strawberry patch and buried her there.
Mickey--border collie mix and the smartest, friendliest dog we ever had. Also the most athletic. Frequently jumped the six foot fence. One day he got out, never came back, and never showed up at the pound. http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Jerry Bear--a red chow. Loveable, but (we thought) incredibly slow-witted. Ran away one Christmas Eve . Eight months later we get a call from the pound: They got him! He had been living in the hills a couple of miles away all that time. Animal Control had tried to catch him several times but he was too fast! Jerry Bear's not as dumb as he looks, it seems. I love him for the sheer fuzziness of his coat and his personality.
Natasha--a lab/rotweiler mix. Constantly wants attention, but has a soft spot in her heart for cats and kittens. Is very protective of the household cats and plays gently with kittens.
2. The war has me all tied up in knots.
3. I went to a barbershop quartet convention yesterday. Have come to the conclusion that I enjoy barbershop music, but only in moderation. http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

1. I've never had a doggy. I am seriously thinking about getting one soon...can't decide what kind to get. I've always wanted an old english sheepdog, but man they're big!
2. I've limited my news intake to just the radio while I'm in the car. I try not to spend too much time in the car...the news makes me a mean driver.
3. I'm moving soon! I'm going to live in a trailer in a trailer park far away from those I love. I'm sad and excited. A little weirded out by the trailer park...It's a bit shady. I'm sure there will be lots of interesting folks to inspire me.

Speaking of pets, I'm completely in love with this movie (http://atomfilms.shockwave.com/af/content/atom_419). it's like "best of show" but real. It's very funny and sad all at the same time. Tell me what you think.
1. I can name all of the parts of a classically styled building, right down to the acanthus leaves atop the ionic columns. Sadly, I'm sure I will forget all of it in a month.
2. I am going to an ettiquette dinner tomorrow night where we pay twelve dollars to dress up, eat overcooked chicken, and learn which fork is which. I'm terribly excited.
3. I think I have lost a friend because of our differing opinions on the war. I'm strongly anti-war and her motto is basically "nuke 'em till they glow." This is very distressing to me because other than that, she's a wonderful person. I've been told several times just to shut my mouth about my opinions, but I just can't swallow what I'm feeling, even if it does hurt our friendship. I just can't.

I've lucked out so far because my family has all been for the war, so we don't fight about it (my Mom's father was in the army and so were a couple uncles). It would be stupid to lose a friend over the war. http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Maybe you guys could agree to disagree or not talk about it? I have trouble keeping my mouth shut when it comes to certain things, too.
1. I picked up a second hand shirt the other day that says "Not only am I perfect, I'm Irish too!" and I am wearing it today. http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif Too bad I didn't have it last Monday, eh?
2. I'm sooooooo nervous! I should be getting back two mid terms today and I have to take one, too.
3. I think I'm going to do miserably on my intro to admin of justice mid term because I have no idea what it's on...we're supposed to read up to chapter 10 in the book, but I think the test is only on the first five and we never even reviewed the chapters! All we do is have speakers and go on field trips. It totally sucks!

1) I need to start looking for a summer job.
2) I started an "all you need to know about me" journal and I wrote 101 facts about me. 5 of my friends from university joined the fun and I can't wait to read what they wrote!
3) If you all keep talking about animals here I'll have to get another one soon! Two dogs and one cat are enough, but I can't help falling in love with all those adorable creatures http://nervousness.org/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

1. I went to those etiquette dinners for free the whole time I was growing up, usually once a year. Part of the subculture...My son went to his first a few weeks ago. :^ )
2. I'm tired of the fanatics on all sides. I'm tired of the demonizing, regardless of the subject of the demonizing. I'm tired of the war rhetoric and of the anti-war rhetoric.
3. I'm headed to another funeral. Better go finish packing.

1) I'm the best lucid dreamer I've ever met. On a good week I can have 14 or more lucid dreams.
2) I love cheap whiskey, don't ask me why.
3) My favorite books are Fast Food Nation (I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in what they're eating and almost every aspect of fast food) Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, The Yellow Wallpaper, The Tao Te Ching, and If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.

1. Some of my favorite childhood books that I still like to sit and read: Matthew and the Midnight Turkeys, Matthew and the Midnight Money Van, The Paper Bag Princess, 40 Below Zero, Horton Hears a Who, All the Kats in Katzenstien (that mignt not be the name. It's a valuable Dr. Suess story of holding up your own tail.), and for that matter, any other classic Seus or Munch.
2. I just finished rereading "Who Is Bugs Potter" by Gordon Korman. It's written at a fifth grade level, but it's still pretty funny. It's all about a drummer from a high school band festival that sneaks out at night, plays with his favorite rock bands, and becomes a cult sensation. I loved those books; I want to track down some more to read. They've kinda gone out of style, being as they're about 20 years old and Canadian.
3. To round out the reading facts, I am currently reading "Dead Zone" by Steven King. It's a bookcrossing book. I rarely read Steven King, but this is pretty good so far. Kinda X-files. I used to like X-Files quite a bit.
