Tana, maybe I'm misremembering. It's been a long time since I read the book. I remember that the father was onto the guy, but now I'm not sure about the creep getting caught. Hmmm. Sorry, Theresa!
BC, I was also my current height (5'11") in seventh grade. The boys called me "Beast."
Having aired that childhood wound, I need to plod off to work!

Curlita! I'm sure you and I could find a lot in common concerning our childhoods --
I never got teased by the boys in school, they were my buddies and I sought refuge with them
the girls, however, were vicious sometimes and I don't think I've ever recovered...
but I understand a lot of this stuff, especially as I am a teacher dealing with it up close almost every day...

1. My nickname in 11th & 12th grade was "Beast" too! But for very different reasons. My friend Valerie started calling me that one day after I yelled at her. I was usually always so quiet and never angry, so she thought it was funny to call me a Beast & it stuck. Everyone started calling me that. In fact, most of the people who signed my senior yearbook addressed their message to "Beast" rather than Sarah.
2. Oh nooooo! The moth is missing! I was going to muster up my courage to walk into my coworker's cubicle (he isn't here this week) and let that nasty moth out the window, but I looked again and it's not there. Eeeeek. It's like in Halloween when Jamie Lee Curtis's character looks out the window and Mike Myers is no longer laying on the ground. :o
3. I'm hungry. Wow, it's lunch time & I didn't even know it. Maybe I should go to the grocery store and buy some food for myself.

You're mailing me an envelope? Anticipating mail is almost as much fun as receiving mail.
Remember, you can do them and then sign up, and I'm not as mean as I make myself out to be...I accepted late contributions for the last ones from FOUR people. I trusted that they mailed them when they said they did.
Okay, I did look at the postmarks when I reveived them, but, but....

there is a woman on the playground outside my window with four kids who look between the ages of 18 months and four years old. they can't all be hers, right... i suppose if she really timed the pregnancies pretty quick it could work...
okay, we had a coworker conference about it...we think two of them are twins...

Oh, I had vicious girl experiences too, from 6th grade through 8th grade I was shunned. I think it made me a more self-reliant, empathetic person and it DEFINITELY taught me that being happy with myself was more important than anything else, definitely more so than trying to please other people.
My feet are swelling again. Must stop being preoccupied by feet.

I have been somewhat productive this morning; I unloaded/reloaded my dishwasher, watered my grass, re-filled the Hummingbird feeder, made a business card for a friend of my hubby, and made my hubby a lunch to take to him in a little bit.
I need to find used socks...or at least really cheap new ones.
I am unmotivated to get dressed.

when I was younger I had a few nicknames- the strongest being Smelly Kelli, cause in elementary school my sister and I shared a room- she wet her bed nearly every night, and my clothes smelled like urine.
The other was Weasel- given to me by my PE teacher, cause I liked to slide into the bases in kickball.
Nowadays it's a bit more pleasant- Kitty... my Portugese friend couldn't seem to remember my name, and I was always wearing "Bad Kitty" sweatshirts, so she just called me Kitty- since then it's kind of caught on.
But Everyone jsut really calls me Kelli- cause it's just too easy to say, I don't need a nickname.

on the subject of height...
my pediatrician said I'd be lucky to hit 5 feet...I am 5' 6", not tall but way taller than 5'. Makes me wonder what do THEY really know anyhow?
I am however the shortest person in my family
My 15 year old nephew is 6' and 280.

I had a dream about Lilac and Christine 0701. However... it was very weird.
Cause Lilac looked like an old haggard crone that was really scary, cause I know she's not an old scary woman. Lilac gave me a white almond brownie. I then had to explain to Rudy who the Scary Old Lady was.
Then I went to Christine's house ( she was bald...)and we talked in her room ( it was all pink and frilly!)and she said that Lilac scared her too and didn't eat the brownie. Then I felt sick cause I did.
then I woke up.

1: on my dad's side- the shortest is my uncle ritchie at 5'7"- the tallest my uncle todd at 6'6"... the other men, and my grandfather, are all around 5'10"- 6'2"... the women, however, my grandmother included, are all between 4'10" and five feet tall...
2: on my mom's side- my grandmother was the tallest, at 5'4", and my grandfather was only 5'3"- my mom and her two sisters and two brothers range from 5 feet to 5'5"....
3: the male cousins, in my generation, are all around six feet tall, on my mom's side... and the gals are all around 5'2"-4"...
4: bonus- my cousin megan is the exception... she's 5'9" and has a size ten foot!!!
well, both of her feet are size ten....

when i was 8 i got really made at my mom because i found out you could do a computation based on how long you were when you 18 months old to determine how tall you would be....she had 16 and 17 months, but not 18...
I was 23 3/4 inches long when I was born...
I wanted to be 5'9 when I grew up, but never made it....

we are never what we want to be, I guess...
I always wanted to be 5'9" -- but 5'11" is what I got
and I'm okay with it...
it's just that when you're tall, you always have to look good because you're never NOT noticed...
and it took me awhile to feel comfortable having a boyfriend who wasn't taller than me -- usually they were all hovering around 6'4" --
hard to let go of some of those comfort levels we're taught...
kind of like age
but that's another topic
and how many facts are these???

1. I feel like such a shrimp. namelessgirl is a whole foot taller than me. Yes, that's right, I am 5'2!
2. I was amused to see that so many people guessed I was 5'9 on my quiz!
3. I have small feet too. I wear a size 5.5 usually. I can actually buy little kids shoes, but my feet are fat so they don't always fit correctly. I do have a pair of sneakers that are a little girl's size 3 or 4 I believe.

Not so random facts, for the record
1. I have no desire to be pregnant.
2. I am heavily leaning towards the "I'm never going to have children because I want to be child-free" side of the fence.
3. I do like children (I gave up being a stock broker to work at a community center and am getting my master's degree in education w/ teacher certification) just haven't had the yearning to have my own.
August 29, 2003
My theme for today's random fact post is my facts relating to moriah's facts.
1. I decide to switch jobs this year and cut my income by 60%. Egads, this is hard to live with. Take your income, multiple it by 0.4, see that number, that's the equivalent of what I did. Someone told me money couldn't buy happiness, and I thought I'd test the theory.
2. I've gotten my Pepsi habit to be Pepsi One and I am down to three a day. I had managed to quit Pepsi cold turkey for about 8 months...then I decided to try Pepsi One when it came out. Extra Fact: Pepsi is the only thing I've ever been addicted to...
3. I currently work as an Activities Director for a Community Center. I used to be a Financial Planner. I still sell insurance "on the side"

I have special needs feet I wear an 11W, sometimes 11WW. AND the shoes need to have a lot of built-in arch support, or I need to be able to wear my orthotics with them AND they need to have enough of a heel that my heels don't end up hurting.
I've never minded being tall as much as I mind my special needs feet.

when i was sixteen i lost my vision for 15 minutes. after a day, and three different doctors, the verdict was "intense migraine"
1 when i was in grade 5 or 6 i was playing "pole tag" with friends at recess, and the fresh dusting of snow concealed an ice patch, which i found, slipped on, and banged the back of my head on one of the "poles" which was actually a fire hydrant. i couldn't see (was all black and starry) for 15 or so minutes then.... totally freaked me out.
2 i forgot to call carrie last night...

Glad to hear the sale and the climb went well!

Three not so random facts about my Nervous friends:
1-They are generous (yay alison on the climb, yay everyone who pitched in for Harrison-the-love-bug)
2-They are sensitive (yay for encouraging words in tough times and knowing you can post on 3RF and someone will chime in with a rah rah)
3-They fight the good fights against bad things, including heartbreak, handicap, the blues, and our boy on Pennsylvania Ave

i have made spinach dip before. i like it because it's sooo good, and when i make it at home, it doesn't cost much. here (http://www.geocities.com/lisalew212/spinachdip.html) is a good recipe. when you are heating the cheese to melt it, if it gets too pasty, you can tip in a teaspoon at a time of cream--or milk.
my birthday is friday. i'll be 32. so far all the 30's have felt basically the same. i get a cutie patootie nervous doll for my bday. and a cake from scratch, that is all butter and sugar and eggs. woot!
i mailed tana a box today. it is a funny box. i bought it at the post office, right? so i asked the mail man to put it together for me so i could use it. he taped it shut all the way around. :P anyway, i did get the stuff inside.

2 cups sour cream
2 cups chopped spinach (or a container of frozen spinach, thawed and well drained)
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1/2 cup red pepper chopped
1/2 cup bacon, crumbled
1 cup grated cheese
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp black pepper
hot sauce to taste (optional, but how can you NOT put hot sauce in?? :) )
combine all ingredients and refrigerate to blend flavors, for about 4 hours or overnight... bread bowl is optional... ;) you can also heat it up to melt the cheese and it's very yummy....

I am struck by that photograph of nymphette's grandparents when they were young -- it kind of makes me feel the whole journey of time takes a second...
I wonder if her grandparents wish they could have slowed time down ...
Then I see nymphette's sons and I almost see them as grown ups in the same moment...

I am obviously feeling time on my fingers these days...
and I always want to tell everyone not to hesitate to do what they want to do..
There is not really so much distance from here to there and all that stuff in the middle is often not worth slowing down for...

1. I'm going out for wings in a little while.
2. I should be studying... and packing.
3. I get tired of life sometimes... mostly when I'm alone.

I love Robyn's project for her grands. I hope I'm lucky enough to have a 50th anniversary (I think I wed too late for a 65th, but we'll see!).
I took out a project that has been sitting unfinished for months and started to finish it. It was a cathartic project regarding my one major unrequited love and I'm ready to put the whole thing to bed.
Our cat Lucy killed her first bird today. It was a starling. Jonny was grossed out, since he's not been around cats all his life.

I am just having the worst day and am at the point of bursting into tears from sheer frustration! Gruffie is still missing, I can't find him...none of the neighbors have seen him...I'm exhausted from searching, exhausted from working all day, exhausted from...everything!
Just a bit ago, I had settled myself down at the computer to try to unwind (even though I found my living room trashed by my son when I came back in from searching for Gruff). My son was in the shower...I had a cup of chamomile tea...looking forward to playing with Larrissa, Gwensmom, Zanna, BlueCrayon, Siafu, Curlits, Sirius...oh, and just everyone... All of the sudden my son let out a horrendous shriek from the bathroom, it sounded like someone was in there murdering him. I jumped up from the computer, running like a fool, hurdled the rabbit's cage...well...not QUITE hurdled the rabbit cage because my foot got stuck in it, I fell, broke the cage, scattered pine shavings all over the place, smashed my knee, landed flat on my face and bit my lip. And what was this life-threatening emergency in the bathroom, you may be wondering? HE DIDNT HAVE A FREAKING TOWEL!!!!!!! Anyhow, he now knows my wrath.
And...I'm feeling a little better letting out some steam. It just gets so overwhelming sometimes, being a single mom and having all these responsibilities. Not that I want to change anything...it's just been one of those days. (But damn it, I seem to have "one of those days" too damn often!!!!!!)

Oh, Lilac. I laughed at your pain. The not hurdling the cage bit was too much for my sensitive humor control to handle.
still wondering about gruffle running off with a girl. or, maybe just off with the circus. those can be very appealing to a goat.
and, although I didn't fall for it, i think it wrong that your favorite flower isn't a lilac
ah...an all lilac edition of TRF

Thanks Sirius for the "All Lilac TRF"...I don't think I've ever had one of those before!
And thanks Larrissa...you just MAY have to come down here and show Gruff YOUR wrath!
My knee hurts.

That depends. You don't happen to have a rabbit cage between you and the freezer, do you? ;)
I managed to avoid the temptation to buy the latest Civ3 expansion set when I stopped at the computer store for more printer ink.
Making lots of spaghetti sauce and freezing it is a good idea. I just remembered I had some, so dinner became a lot less of a chore.
It's TOO HOT in here. Outside it's a glorious temperature, which is unusal this late in the evening.

 no, no rabbit cages, though if the cat sees me in that close proximity to his crunchies, he may ask for more. pig cat.
i am going to make something with chicken for dinner.
and i am going to eat sourpatch kids while i make said dinner. but i will not get chicken goo on said candy, cos that's too gross.
