- I just finished my work day. That's over 10 hours of work today. :o
- I don't like having such short evenings, feels like I've done nothing worthwhile all day. <_<
- The one worthwhile thing about all this overtime is the time off it earns me... that's worth a LOT, come to think of it. :)

- Just thinking about a week's vacation is enough to burn away fatigue and moodiness. :)
- Sometimes when I'm this tired, I make more typos than usual - reversing letters, typing one vowel for another, doubling the wrong letter in a word...
- I think my fingers are a little dyslexic. They do have a mind of their own, and don't seem to agree with standard English spelling.

02-17-2004, 01:25 PM
- Suddenly, I find myself thinking out loud to this thread.
- This can go on for a long time.
- I've eaten a cereal bar for breakfast, a bit of pasta with ham in a cream sauce for lunch, and I expect to have vegetable soup for dinner.
Cuilanië
02-17-2004, 01:26 PM
- I realise that last fact should have gone into "What's on the menu?", but I can't be bothered to change screens and hunt it down.
- I also ate most of a Toblerone bar (I shared with my co-workers, though) and a lot of cookies.
- I had too much coffee today.
Cuilanië
02-17-2004, 01:34 PM
- The forums automatically translate the word "coffee" into coffee, regardless of whether you put the colons around it.
- I'm suddenly very very bouncy
- The soup can wait...

Fiona is 12 -- kind of right on the edge of me being able to leave her here alone, but not quite there yet. I did go in and tutor this morning for 90 minutes, and then came back home...

This is the Captain.
Three random facts...
1) Any opinions about me are not valid, as no one on this forum knows me personally outside of the people whose computer I happen to be on. Who out there is so righteous to pass judgement.
2) Records and cds are not my map of life. However, people have hobbies, random crap that they're amused by. I'd rather be into music as apposed to T.V., or hockey (Leafs suck!), or other random crap that people are intitled to do.
3) You don't know anything about me for fact, other than what I've stated, which doesn't sum up my existance or my opinions. Therfore it should not be three random facts but three random opinions (for a person you believes I need to get a life, I come up as a quasi-common discussed individual).

This is the Captain...
5 years back, I was put in a position were not going through chemo was a bonus. I was ill since I was about 12 or 13. I dealt with a lot of crazy shit. All of the years are now BONUS. I have also realized I have absolutely NO obligation to anyone whatsoever. However, since I am not religous, I have not god to absolve me of anything. Therefore, I live my life as my morals and ideals dictate. I can not ask anyone else to live by my morals, so I by them myself. My main goal in life is to able to say I was the best person I could possibly be, and I do it for myself.

1. oh no!! Maybe you need one of those keyboard vaccum things. Or you could probably score a cheap keyboard at a thrift shop.
2. I have lots of mystery crumbs in my keyboard. Once in a while I turn my keyboard upside down and shake it then crumbs and dirt come raining down all over my desk. Gross.
3. Totally unrelated to keyboards, but I realized last night when I was looking at Death-or-Aldona's amazon wishlist that I always spell her name wrong. I have been writing "Jamie" when referring to her on the forums. She must want to kill me because it's "Jaime." That's like when people spell my name "sara" and that's frustrating, so I know how she feels. Sorry Jaime!! :)

:'( That's so sad. I'm so sorry Sarah. :(
It's horrible that a teenager can feel there is nothing to live for, when really their life hasn't even begun yet. Though, when I was a teenager there were many times when it seemed like my life would never get better, so I guess I can understand how some of them feel. It's just such a shame that some of these kids decided their life is over before they even really became an independent person, and realized that their life could be different, better, one day.

1. That's funny Cindi because when it comes to the word "definitely" I am the complete opposite! That is one of those frequently misspelled words that I always remember. I think it's because one of my teachers in ninth grade told us to always remember the word has 2 "E"s on the outsides and two "I"s on the insides, and the word "nite" is part of the word.
2. "Separate" on the other hand is a word I can never remember how to spell correctly. I think I usually start to write "seperate" instead.
3. I have a stupid meeting to go to at 10:00. I hope it doesn't last long.

-i found some books in my room i forgot i had. i wonder what i shall do with them.
-i'm watching maury without my glasses on. i can't make out the tv screen too well.:)
*bonus*-my little puppy is sitting in his pen acting like a king. i'm going to get a picture of him sitting on his crate one day and post it.

1) I remember how to spell definitely because it's just the word finitely in it :P
2) I still misspell necessary and successful on a regular basis. I put too many c's in necessary and too few in successful.
3) I'm very behind in letting people know things have gotten here. I'll have to PM lots of people today.

1. Nooooo medeous you can't forego the forums! The forums love you!!!
2. I don't consider myself very patriotic either but I feel the same as you sometimes. All americans aren't greedy wasteful assholes. This is the country I was born in, this is the country I live in. If I was born in France or Russia or China or Egypt would that make me a better person? Different probably, but better (or worse)?? I think not!

some info on how caring the american military is
82nd Airborne soldier leaves his post, seeks asylum in Canada
12:26 PM EST Feb 19
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A soldier in the 82nd Airborne Division who says he had "a romantic vision" of military life has left his post and is living in Canada, where he has sought refuge as a conscientious objector.
Jeremy Hinzman, a member of the 2nd Battalion of the 504th Brigade Parachute Infantry Regiment, could be prosecuted as a deserter if he is caught inside the United States.
He'll be listed on a national database and could be arrested, but the army won't go looking for him, said Sgt. Pam Smith, a spokeswoman for the 82nd Airborne, based at Fort Bragg.
"We don't have time to go and track down people who go AWOL," she said. "We're fighting a war."
Hinzman, who grew up in Rapid City, S.D., joined the army in January 2001. He and his wife and baby fled last month to Toronto.
Hinzman told the Fayetteville Observer by phone that the socialist structure of the military appealed to him - he liked the subsidized housing and groceries and, at the end of his service, the money for college.
"It seemed like a good financial decision," he said, adding, "I had a romantic vision of what the army was."
But he was horrified from the start of basic training, by the chanting about blood and killing during marches, by the shooting at targets without faces and by what he called the dehumanization of the enemy.
"It's like watching some kind of scary movie, except I was in it," he said. "People would just walk around saying things like, 'Oh, I want to kill somebody."'
Hinzman said he turned in his first application to be a conscientious objector in August 2002, saying he wanted to fulfil his service obligation but not to participate in combat.
He said army officials told him his six-page explanation was lost. But later, when he was doing clerical work, he was handed a file that included the application.
He reapplied, but by that time his unit was on track to go to Afghanistan and he left with it. With the application still pending, he was kept off patrol and worked as a dishwasher.
Hinzman said his application was denied while he was in Afghanistan.
He returned to Fayetteville in July and talked things over with his wife, Nga Nguyen. They figured it was only a matter of time before his unit would be sent to Iraq. He said he felt the war there was unjust and was being fought over oil interests.
On Dec. 20, Hinzman found out that his unit would be deployed to Iraq. On Jan. 2 - a Friday, the start of a four-day weekend - he packed his wife and 14-month-old son, Liam, into their car for the 18-hour drive to Canada.
His absence was noticed that Monday and he was declared absent without leave the following day.
Hinzman said he has received much support from Quakers in Toronto and Fayetteville, where he joined the Friends Meeting when he couldn't find a place to practise Buddhism, his preferred faith.
Ann Ashford, recording clerk at the Fayetteville Friends Meeting, said Hinzman and his wife were faithful attendees. She said the community supports Hinzman, though no one knew of his plan to desert.
During the Vietnam War, an estimated 30,000 Americans sought refuge in Canada to avoid compulsory military service.
Hinzman's chances of receiving refugee status are slim: Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board said none of the 268 American applicants last year was accepted.
Those who are denied refugee status may be granted permission to stay in Canada under other provisions, said Charles Hawkins, a spokesman for the board.
Hinzman said he knows the decision will take a while. He said the hardest part has been leaving the people in his unit, which is now in Iraq.
"I didn't do this out of animosity toward them," he said, "but toward the situation we were in."

i personally love the american people, a group without peers whens it comes to caring, getting together and sticking together. americans stand by their friends and try hard to entertain the rest of the world, and generally, the american people are non violent and love freedom for everyone. this is not how the so called 'patriot act' works and it is not how mr bush works, the with us or against us mentallity of the current regime in power has been damaging to the american people across the planet and now we need to help the americans heal and move on to a new leader in 2004.

My government is not me.
therefore, I don't take anti-American criticism personally
i wouldn't take the criticism personally, either...if it were always directed or addressed towards the government instead of america or americans in general, as it usually is.
america is an amorphous umbrella term that means a lot of things...
it is not the same as Jewish, Arab, blind, female, or any other moniker people use to separate themselves from one another...
even more reason not to lump us all together and let prejudice run away with one's typing fingers.
this is an issue where no one is likely to be swayed from their opinions and those that feel attacked by my remarks will likely label me american. <shrug> so be it, i'm finished with this topic of conversation.

I had an annoying, aggravating day, trying to fix a simple problem with my car, when it would have been nice to be working and earning money.
Then it got worse: I discovered all I'd done went for nothing, then had a setback that means I'm even behind where I began.
I'm considering banging my head against the wall for a bit...
bonus fact: I lost my mailbox key.

1. Those are much better than OK - they are awesome ATCs! Great job Kelly!
2. I love all of them, but I think my most favorite out of the bunch is the one in the upper left hand corner. :)
3. I look at everyone's ATCs & think- why can't I do that? When I sit down to try to make ATCs I just draw a complete blank. I'm not good at drawing or painting so that makes it tough. I think I'm going to try to make some digital ones today.

Thanks for saying nice things about my cards...I'm so new to this and don't mean to sound so insecure...still learning
I had a bizarre dream last night about my daughter and I no longer had our identities, house, job, etc. In my purse was a business card with my new name and an address of an apt. that I lived in...the only other thing on the card was Sirius' phone number. I called her and she answered the phone, "Russ-teal", which is not at all how I pronounce it so I was taken aback for a second. I didn't know how to tell her that I was a Nness friend and I was no longer who I thought I was and I needed help. I assumed her number was on there for a reason, though. I just sat in silence while she kept saying hello...I kept thinking she was going to think I was some psycho internet person and wouldn't help me...LOL
Then, I woke up!

1. I'm thinking of starting a new Nervousness thread where everyone could post their how-to instructions or links to all kinds of art & craft projects.
2. I run out of ideas for things to make, or there are things I want to make or do but I just don't know how, and I assume there are other people who feel the same. I would love to see instructions & project ideas even for things that seem really simple to some people, like very good descriptions of various ATC making techniques, altered book techniques, how to make decos, how to sew a bag, how to make a duct tape wallet, how to alter an aol tin, etc.
3. My problem is that I can't think of a name for the thread. I know that seems unimportant & I could call it anything - but I want it to be something that people will remember, maybe something catchy and something that is descriptive of what the thread is all about. I'm hoping it will catch on so people will add new ideas everyday. So, does anyone have any ideas for a thread title?

TV's worst of all times
By KEVIN WILLIAMSON -- Calgary Sun
A man learns his dead mother has been reincarnated as his car. Hijinks ensue. ("Hey, your mom has junk in her trunk!")
After humanity is wiped out in a nuclear holocaust, six survivors face gigantic killer insects. Did I mention it's a sitcom?
On daytime TV, a talk show rakes in ratings gold thanks to an arsenal of sleaze that includes teen prostitutes, white supremacists and polygamists.
Just more creatively-vapid fare for the fall season? Further evidence of television in decline -- teetering on the brink of critical mass, as some contend?
Actually, the first describes My Mother The Car, which ran in 1965.
The second is Woops! which lasted a nano-second in 1992.
And the third? That would be Oprah Winfrey -- before she could afford to turn her self-righteous nose up at the slimy antics that made her rich and famous.
The truth is, television has always been lousy, the good stuff the exception, not the rule. But with shows such as The Littlest Groom out there, we thought it would be the perfect time for a little perspective.
As bad as things are, they could be worse, as the following 25 shows prove.
Some are old, some are still on the air. All of them are awful, some intentionally so, others not. There are cop shows and sitcoms and the forebearers to reality-TV. They are the worst of the worst. And they should all be remembered so that, like all mistakes, they are never repeated.
1. The Jerry Springer Show (1991-present): There was cocaine before crack. Just like there was trash TV before there was The Jerry Springer Show. But Springer took the sleaziest aspects of the daytime talk show circus -- started, as mentioned above, by Winfrey before she got all holier-than-thou -- and purified them all into a revolting, addictive concoction that glorified the most appalling traits of humanity. Guests flew into white-trash rages, audiences hollered in fits of slobbering delight, and, presiding over it all, was Springer himself, who ended each episode with an absurdly-pretentious bit of homespun wisdom.
2. Baby Bob (2001-02): The My Mother The Car of the modern-era, Baby Bob, actually began with the caption "based on the commercial" -- a portent of evil that ranked somewhere between the birth of the anti-Christ and Christopher Walken smiling. Bob was an infant with a voice and a personality befitting a Soprano. Basing a sitcom around a former Pampers-clad pitchman proved that, in reaching for a high concept, you can achieve a new low.
3. Who Wants To Marry A Multimillionaire (2000): This people-cheapening stunt saw a bevy of lovely prostit -- er, ladies, that is, vie for the hand of a tuxedo-clad millionaire. As the bride selected, Darva Conger hacked out a career path for countless others to follow: act like a gold-digging floozy, proclaim how you were duped, and then shed your clothes for Playboy. Her groom, Rick Rockwell, meanwhile, signalled the rough waters future reality-TV contestants would face under media scrutiny. For one thing, Rockwell wasn't a millionaire but a lowlife standup comic.
4. Seeing Things (1981-87): You can't go swimming without getting wet. And you can't compile a list like this without talking about Canadian TV. As every Canadian knows hockey and maple syrup, we also know its entertainment programming sucks. I selected Seeing Things, about a leisure-suit-wearing psychic, as merely an example. Exhibit A, if you will. Don't make me show you exhibits B to H.
5 Cop Rock: (1990-90): Absolute power corrupts absolutely. For example, if I had absolute power, I could make everyone in the Sun newsroom burst into song. I could make sure all the songs were crappy rock tunes even Chad Kroeger wouldn't put his name on. And I could make sure we all had plenty of overblown dramas and tragedies to contend with, and maybe we could all carry guns and shoot people, too. And that's why I should never have absolute power. And neither -- as this cop musical proved when it lived about as long as a gnat in the early '90s -- should TV mogul Steven Bochco.
6. Manimal (1983-83): The early '80s were a bizarre time for crime-fighters. They drove talking cars, wore mohawks and/or moustaches, and zoomed around in pink helicopters. But none of them could do what the man called "Manimal" could do. Yes, as you've probably already guessed, this outlandish Cat People ripoff was about a do-gooder who could turn himself into any animal, whenever he wanted, for any occasion. No horse jokes, please.
7. Celebrity Boxing (2002): True, talentless has-been celebrities rich and famous for being famous (ie: Kato Kaelin), deserve to be pummeled into cash-strapped bloody heaps. But I don't deserve having to sit there and watch it happen.
8. After M*A*S*H (1983-84): Because Hollywood Squares wasn't good enough for them, Jamie Farr, Harry Morgan and some other second-tier stars of the long-running titan M*A*S*H decided to star in this insipid, clearly-desperate spinoff. Are you listening, Matt LeBlanc?
9. Baywatch (1989-2001): Some attempt to achieve greatness and fail. Others just put Pamela Anderson in a swimsuit and bathe in cash. Begrudging star and executive producer David Hasselhoff of the tens of millions he made off this syndicated smash would be pointless and a little misguided. Unlike many producers whose financial success is far greater than their artistic ambition, Hasselhoff knew he was making trash. By the same token, though, just because it was trash everybody and their 12-year-old brother lapped up doesn't make it good.
10. Hogan's Heroes (1965-71): This knee-slapper of a sitcom about U.S. soldiers in a Nazi Po W camp fulfils all the requirements of terrible TV. Bad acting, offensive premise, the complete absence of logic and utter contempt for the audience's intelligence. Star Bob Krane was later murdered and revealed to be a sleazy film-making sex fiend. Sounds like a comedy to me!
11. Small Wonder (1985-89): This creepy, awful show was about an engineer who brings home a project that he's been working on: a robot in the shape of a 10-year-old girl.
12. Trista and Ryan's Wedding (2003): Reality-TV's royal couple ties the knot and ... no, wait, that's it. Really. There's nothing else. What's worse than titillating trash? Dull trash. Stay tuned for next season's Trista and Ryan's Baby Photos three-parter.
13. World Idol/Canadian Idol (2003): They both had Ryan Malcolm in them. Enough said.
14. The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-85): Imagine a cheeky TV version of Deliverance told from the hillbillies' point of view and you begin to fathom this '70s hit about fast cars, good ol' boys, corrupt small-town sheriffs and Daisy Duke, who I would have gladly watched reading the phone book. At least the dialogue would've been better.
15. Joanie Loves Chachi (1983-83): Garry Marshall successfully used his hit Happy Days as a launch pad for both Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy. But his luck ran out in the early '80s with this attempt to base a sitcom around Joanie Cunningham (Erin Moran) and Fonzie's cousin, Chachi (Scott Baio). The two quickly returned to Happy Days after viewers told them to "sit on it."
16. The Powers of Matthew Star (1982-83): You think the Oscars are a big deal? Tell that to Lou Gossitt Jr., who picked up an Academy Award for An Officer and a Gentleman only to find himself playing an Obi-Wan-like mentor to this silly sci-fi show's titular brooding alien teen hunk. (He had to flee his home planet of Quadris when his father -- the planet's ruler -- was overthrown.) The "powers" the title refers to involved telekinesis and ESP. Too bad none of the producers could foresee just how bad this would be.
17. Woops! (1992-92): After earth is destroyed in a nuclear holocaust, a scattering of survivors face gigantic mutated bugs. Laughing yet? No? Neither were audiences at this blink-and-you-missed-it Fox sitcom. Coincidentally "Woops" was also the last thing heard from the executive who greenlit this unmitigated disaster.
18. The Ropers (1979-80): The greedy masterminds behind Three's Company spun the forever-bickering landlords into their own show. But when The Ropers was cancelled, the actors -- Norman Fell and Audra Lindley -- weren't invited back to their original home, even after they tried to convince the producers it was just a misunderstanding.
19. The Anna Nicole Show (2001-present): Anna Nicole Smith has been losing a lot of weight lately. Hopefully enough to make her disappear.
20. Fastlane (2001-01): With '80s-retro all the rage, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to make a Miami Vice for the 21st century. That someone was McG, the hack director responsible for the Charlie's Angels "films," who made a flashy cop show about as hard-hitting as a Sugar Ray music video.
21. The XFL (2001-01): The only ones on the field who didn't look like they belonged in a high school practice were the stripper-esque cheerleaders.
22. Holmes and Yoyo (1976-76): Det. Holmes is such a loose cannon, his partners keep dying. Yet the police force doesn't fire him -- they just build a robot, named Yoyo, to work with him. Technology was impressive even in the '70s, since the producers managed to create a robot that looked just like a middle-aged actor stunned in disbelief by what his career had become.
23. Mr. Smith (1983-83): A run-of-the-mill orangutan gains the power of speech and an IQ of 256, and moves to Washington to work for the government. It was the ludicrous premise that sunk the show -- no one believed anyone in Washington could have an IQ over 50.
24. Dallas (1978-91): This -- along with Dynasty -- ruled over the glitzy, primetime soap operas that dominated the '80s. But for sheer tackiness, Dallas beats Dynasty by a nose -- or nose job, anyway. Why? There was the "Who Shot J.R.?" cliffhanger that became a cultural phenomenon. But, worse, was the now-infamous plotline that saw Patrick Duffy's character, Bobby, return from the grave and pronounce that the season past -- in which he was "dead" -- was just a dream.
25. ANYTHING WITH GERALDO RIVERA: Geraldo Rivera is in a category all his own. Sort of like ebola. Ever since he broke ranks from ABC News in the '80s, he's embarrassed himself time and again. There was the opening of Al Capone's vault (empty) and most recently, his broadcast during the Iraq war that idiotically alerted enemy soldiers to the Americans' position. But it is his role in the decline of the daytime talk show with which Riveria had the most scandalous, impact. No, I'm not referring to the time he hosted his show from a topless doughnut shop, but rather, the episode in which a brawl broke out and Riveria's nose was broken by a flying chair. That simple shattering of cartilage would herald every Jerry Springer-staged brouhaha to follow.

1. I decided to combine the names that Sirius & Nymphette suggested for my thread. Introducing - Nervous-Art & Craft-Goodness (http://nervousness.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8276&hl=). Ta Da! I hope it will catch on because I want to learn some new stuff :)
2. I used to watch Small Wonder. That crazy robot girl with the red dress with little white polka dots if my memory serves me correctly.
3. I am also ashamed to admit I watched Baby Bob. I thought it was kinda funny in a really cheesy stupid sort of way.

1. I am happy to report to SarahKate that I am not only posting, I have created a LMAO (bookring), joined LMAOS, and am participating in a few PIFs. Purely for your happiness and joy of course!
2. Purely for your happiness and joy of course! That was an opporunity for me to use the word natch! Purely for your happiness and joy, natch!
3. I'm doing a lousy job of working that into my vocabulary. I did read the Stephen King article in Entertainment Weekly a couple weeks ago in which he used the word natch. He must have had the same plan as me!

1. Fantastical! (I love that "word" as much as Rustell loves "natch") I am glad that you are keeping up the forum post count just for me Ms. Sirius!
2. Hmm...all of that talk about "natch" and trying to find a sentence to put it in reminds me of the movie Super Troopers.
3. I might go to the movies this weekend! Yay! I haven't been to the theater since Identity was released. So that tells you how long that's been.

- She thinks the residents of the area ought to be a little forewarned.

I am trying to leave feedback for all the people I owe feedback to, this is hard.
I have to find some way to organise my exchanges and what I owe to whom.
People should poke reminder sticks in me.

Medeous is good at poking people with sticks, maybe she could remind you of things.
I have not been productive work-wise today, undoubtedly because I am jonesing for my weekend.
That was my first time using the word jonesing. Am I spelling it right? What is the history behind the term? Where did it come from?

1. From http://www.ugo.com/channels/filmtv/feature...humpdaydigest/- (http://www.ugo.com/channels/filmtv/features/humpdaydigest/-)
Ah, now HERE's something we can be bitter and cynical about. One of the other big flicks we were looking forward to in 2005 was a fourth Indiana Jones adventure, scheduled to be a big summer blockbuster under the guiding hand of Steven Spielberg. The script, written by the excellent Frank Darabont, was apparently loved by the Oscar-winning director, and production was going to start later this year. And then...and then...and then...and then along came George. The estimable Mr. Lucas, who is the producer of the whole effort, has apparently put the brakes on and decided that HE, not one of the industry's most respected screenwriters, knows what's best. He's going to rework the story and script himself. Now, George Lucas is many, many things - technical visionary, shrewd businessman, bearded wonder - but one thing he is NOT is a great writer. Need proof? Exhibit A: The Phantom Menace, in which "Yippee!" was probably the best line of dialogue. Exhibit B: Attack of the Clones, in which the moment one character falls in love with another is when the latter admits he just slaughtered an entire village of sandpeople. THIS guy is going to improve on Frank Darabont's work? It'd be funny if it didn't make us want to throw up in our mouth. Meanwhile, the changes will also be pushing the release of the movie back into 2006, meaning Harrison Ford will be just that much more geriatric when time comes to roll film. Here's an idea, George: Throw us the idol, and we'll throw you the whip.

One of my favorite sayings these days when something goes wrong is "BALLS!!"
1. I tell someone they are "the balls" if they do something great. Like when my boyfriend goes grocery shopping alone and brings home green tea for me without me having to ask for it I say "you are THE BALLS." I like to use words in ways they aren't meant to be used sometimes. :)
2. This afternoon seems to be going especially slow.
