1. It's actually not too bad up here this week! Lucky for him he wasn't here the past few weeks when our temps didn't seem to get above 10° F, so this week it actually seems "warm." Right now it's 22° F here. Wahoo... a heat wave :P
2. I am very hungry. I brought a can of Campbell's vegatable soup (the kind with the alphabet letters) with me for lunch. I can't wait to eat it.
3. I can't wait until spring. I love the first day of the year when the temperature gets up into the 50s or so and everyone is in a good mood and driving around with their windows down because it seems like spring is finally here. Ahh...can't wait for that day.

-2- My favorite American accents are middle-class and upper-class Georgia and North Carolina accents. I also have a fondness for Boston accents and Minnesota accents.
yay! i when i talk to my family i get a north carolinean(is that a word?) accent. not because i want to but because thats how i'm used to speaking to them.
i like accents of canadians as well. my physical therapist is from on the border and when i talk to her she'll speak US english but then an "eh?" or "aboot" pops out of her mouth and i laugh at her. and then spend the next half hour picking on her and us laughing.
i like mexican accents also. i can't do them. whenever i try it comes out middle eastern. i'm glad i don't need an accent for spanish class.:)

1. Sometimes I say "aboot" or "sooda" (and other words that I can't think of right now) and I don't know why. I think it sounds kind of like a Minnesota accent, though I have never been there or Canada, so I don't know why those pronounciations pop out of my mouth.
2. You wouldn't think people in upstate NY would have accents, but around here there are so many people who sound like total hicks. I don't know where it comes from. And they put "the" in a sentence where it doesn't belong, for example "I went to THE Walmart last night." That drives me crazy. Or they say "I went to the Walmarts last night." Agh! It's ONE WALMART!! Ther eis no need for an S. :spank:
3. When I was younger my family would go back to Massachusetts to visit our relatives usually once every year. I remember on the way back home, going down the Mass Pike, I would always forget if I lived in New York, or Yew Nork. I was so crazy.

1. You have to remember that we're used to MUCH warmer temps! It's been bouncing between the 30's and 50's here, lately.... so 10 degrees is butt-chapping to us! And there's SNOW on the ground.... I can't even remember the last time I saw snow in person!
2. I forgot my lunch today, and I'm just too lazy to go out and get anything. Guess I'll eat triscuits and coffee for lunch... :huh:
3. I really enjoyed the peace of having the house to myself last night, but it freaks our kitties out when one of us is missing, so they were acting strange all evening...

2. I think the sky appears to be blue because it's a reflection of the ocean or something like that. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know.

* Mmmmm. I brought crystallized ginger with me today to munch on at my desk. Yum.
* I had insomnia last night, so I have been awake since 3:30 AM.
* An unprecedented occasion: an insurance company and I agree on something! My old insurance company just wrote to tell me that they will not pay for the MRI a doc referred me for b/c they didn't think it was medically necessary. I'd already cancelled the appointment. I had reduced hearing in one ear for 4 days in November and it quit as soon as I went on prednisone - I don't think I have a brain tumor. So I'll do my part toward reducing the high cost of medical insurance by passing on the MRI, thanks.

when i was 13, i was telling my borther how much i liked the band SPARKS, and i said "The Sparks" and wow...did he lecture me! that lecture continues to float thru my head every friggin time i listen to, read about or mention the band SPARKS! :D
i live in a cute neighborhood cal "Los Feliz" and everyone pronounces it "Los Fee-Liz" while i pronounce it is "Los Fel-leece" which I'm pretty sure is the correct pronounciation especially considering I'm in Los Ang-hel-es which has a rich mexican culture! :P
my previous nanny post was almost like the Nanny Diaries but not nearly as bad. My new one kicks butt but I am surrounded by ridiculous "hollywood" people who live their lives through their nannies, assistants & stylists! ;)
(my fave indie radio station is KXLU and they are now on the internet but my computer is too slow to accept the feed...but if you really like INDIE INDIE...check out KXLU!)

-1- Lobstergirl, I think that your brother and my brother are spiritual twins. I have gotten very similar lectures. (BTW, did they do the song "Cool Places"? I dig that song.)
-2- I just took my first steps toward quitting the bane of my existence: the YMCA. Woo-hoo! I can't wait until I never have to go in that stinky, teenager-infested locker room again!
-3- I posted a recipe on Live Journal (in the hip_domestics community) and people are loving it! That makes me feel good.

1. I just had an Oh HENRY. I don't think I have ever had one before today. I must say Oh Henry is mighty good. (Now I'm imagining how this fact looks to people who didn't know that Oh Henry is a candy bar :lol:)
2. My life really is sad. I have been staring at a computer screen since a little after 8:30 this morning, and at 5:00 I will be going home, eating my leftover pineapple pizza, then going on my computer at home where I will continue to stare at the screen until at least 10:30 or 11:00 PM. I have no choice though, I have computer related N'ness stuff to work on.

Eve will tell us the details later. She doesn't like to confess too much at once. I am glad there is something good going on!
One of Gwens babysitters has been sick all week so I had to "sleep" in Gwen's room last night. About 2 am. I thought I heard her whimpering but when I got up to look at her she was grinning from ear to ear and giggling in her sleep! Gwen can smile and coo but she rarely laughs anymore and never giggles. She looked like a regular girl doing that.
Gwensdad and I are cranky and fighting so I doubt I'll get anything for v-day. Nothing new about that. :violin: Who cares, I already got a valentine from Kittymao!

I am not a 'valentinesy' kind of person. I could really care less if I get anything for Valentines day. But, I do like sending cards to people.
Not to say that I don't appreciate getting something for VD, I just think you should show/tell people you love them any and every day of the year.
I feel the same about Mothers and Fathers day.

One of my old boyfriends was from Thailand and his parents called it "los fillip"
I put 100+ miles on my car today running an errand for Hubby so I had a lot of time to think. (does 100 miles count as an errand?) So I am just going to post all my random thoughts at once!
1. It feels awkward to refer to my hubby by his 'given' name when talking about him to people. (Jimmy)
2. But on the flip-side I feel weird calling him by his nickname to people who don't call him that or even really know him. (Gee)
3. However, I don't have a problem refering to him by his 'professional' name, the one all the race-car guys know him as. (Jimmy G)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
a. It is weird that I have no problem driving 100+ miles, and actually enjoy driving, because when I got my licence however long ago I wouldn't drive at night or on the freeway
b. I used to have an SUV, but it thought it was a DOG and rolled over.
c. When bored, I used to call up a friend of mine and we would just get in the car and drive. We ended up in Ventura once, had fish tacos and turned around.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i. even though I am a native Califorian I never went to Hollywood until I was 18 years old, and when we did I was afraid to get out of the car. (my friends used the line from Valley Girl on me "If they rush the car...save the radio" to get me out of the car)
ii. Ironically, 8 years later I lived in Hollywood and used to walk on Sunset Blvd; from the Laundrymat to McDonalds to get dinner on laundry night.
iii. We used to go to the Mann Chinese and the Galaxy Theatre (the theatre they shot the 'at the movie scene' at in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie) on the weekends for matinees.
#################################################
1. I am 33 years old and I baby-sit for 'pocket money'
2. I have an affinty for bands with lead singers who have that "raspy-screamy" voice (ie Linkin Park, Offspring, Stabbing Westward.)
3. I have forgotten a lot of the other stuff I was thinking about in the car. (lucky for y'all)
edited to add: I remembered my last random fact: My Hubby built the transmission for the 'main' Ford Torino used in the Starsky & Hutch movie coming out w/ Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson
-1- Chris is downstairs having a half.com spending spree. So far he's ordered The Complete Far Side, Mr. Show season 1, and two years of Best American Poetry. He keeps saying, "What else do we need..." :yay:
-2- Our old real estate agent dropped in on us tonight. It was very strange, since we bought the house 2.5 years ago and haven't seen her in the meantime. She brought us coffee mugs and chocolate, and a pile of her business cards.
-3- Today I was wondering what names Curlita was thinking about -- not that it's time to decide, yet, necessarily. I just love names.
yeh. my mom loathes joe & myself for always depicting her for having a middle eastern accent. and in reality, her voice really does sound like that in my head and i just cannot force myself to learn to do her voice justice.
i used to speak spanish fluently when i was 3. my father being born and raised in south GA and only kinda racist - made me stop speaking it becuase he was afraid me and my mother were sending secret messages to each other in spanish. which leads me to wonder why he married a mexican woman in the first place. this, along with a long list of horrid things my dad does - i still adore him. is that sick?
3. My parent's hinted that they're buying me the new edition of Alice in Wonderland, which rocks because if they insist on buying me something for the holidays, I ask for one of those overpriced masterpiece disney DVDs, because it's something i would like, but would rarely buy because they're always over $15.
1. That's a good idea, though, Janelle is kind of in that stage of "all I care about are boys and clothes and shoes" so I don't know if she would actually read it or not. Maybe I should just skip buying her a present and buy myself that book instead. :lol:
It came out at the end of January. There's an extra chesire cat song, etc. It's similar to the Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Beauty and the Beast dvds Disney has come out with in the last 3 years. 2 discs, tons of features, remastered art so they're clearer. I don't know why, but I feel like if I have one then I have to get all of them... LOL.
3 Random (long Facts) about my nusto family. I could go on, but I won't...
1. My mom is a little weird/psycho/strange/talkative. She likes to say things and then see what people say. Usually the thing that sets Nick off is when she talks about cars... And that ticks me off because he used to get mad when she made fun of me, and that kinda made me happy because I felt like I mattered. Normally when they meet, they curse at each other and tease one another and then they both hold a grudge after and come yelling at me about it. And I've told both of them that if they have a problem to discuss it with the person that said problem is with. But do they? No! I think she and Nick just really like to argue and then fight for attention. And Nick HATES the way she cooks, and will refuse to eat the things she cooks even if he adores it because she made it.
2. My (step) dad is really mellow. Very soft voice, funny laugh. I think he had too much fun in the 70s. He has 2 modes: a) Let my mom walk all over him and then hide in the basement with the 3 tvs and various electronics that don't work for 2-3 hours. B ) Start saying things back to her, which are really funny, but totally not casting the right image. Sometimes she runs upstairs and starts crying when he does this (possibly for attention), other times she dishes it back. My dad is hilarious though, if we're sitting at dinner and it's quiet, he breaks out with "I drive a Dodge Stratus" (SNL skit--episode with Sara Michelle Gellar) and he tries to be cool so hard...He broke out in the running man and cabbage patch one day when I was 20 or so, trying to teach me how to dance. He loves music and weird books, so he's cool, but can cause my mom to wig out.
3. My little brothers have been told that women are evil, and living with my mom I am sure that she backs it up on a daily basis. She told them to never let anyone ever touch them anywhere in they're "bathing suit area." EVER. Even when they get married! Of course, they say they aren't getting married because women are evil and they don't like girls (thanks mom, at least when I was partially invested in raising them they were more normal). Now, Nick is totally against everything she's told them and he tries to 'manify' the boys at all times, which never works out because James (14) tries to do the things Nick says to but always messes it up, and Jon (12) is short and self concious and a lot like me when I was younger, so of course he'll do 85% of what I ask him too but doesn't really like taking direction from anyone else, making Nick and the rest of the Fam as I call them, go crazy. And he cusses which kids in my family never do (I still don't because it makes the boys think its okay and I don't want them to think it is). She tries to make sure everything is equal for all 3 of us kids and that's just not going to work out. I'm a decade or more OLDER than her kids, and I do not need the same things they do.
1. This new medicine I'm on is making me feel really wierd....
2. I feel like I've spent the greater part of this morning on the phone bitching. First I had to cancel a flower delivery order, because the stupid place I ordered them from (to be delivered LAST WEDNESDAY!) still hasn't delivered the flowers!!!!! Then someone from a moving company was supposed to meet with me at 10:00 a.m. to discuss an estimate for our upcoming office move. It's now almost 12:30 and I still haven't heard from her! I called her office and left a very bitchy voicemail. Don't think we'll be hiring them! I wish they could see me doing this: :middle:
3. Gads! At least our office is closed on Monday for President's Day.... so I've got a nice long weekend to look forward to....
Ahh, yes. Well, it wasn't the shower, it was the bachelorette party. And I am going-- I never sent Bridget that email-- but happily, my aunts are going too, so I won't be "alone." And Bridget did reassure me that there won't be male strippers or anything embarrassing, so that's good. I am sure I will be posting ALL about it in 3 Random Facts on March 7. Stay tuned!
-1- This is the 11th day of no Death_or_Aldona on the forums. That makes me sad.
-2- The disgusting reference librarian was talking with her mouth full during lunch and some of her beef with broccoli landed in my chinese food container. She didn't even notice! Thankfully, it landed on the underside of the lid, and not in my food, but it still made me lose my appetite.
2. as requested, hehe, my latest I'm on a diet and I miss tasty food dream: The night before last I had a dream that I was on some sort of crazy shopping spree at a supermarket. You know running through the aisles with my arms full of tubs of ice cream... terrified I won't make it to the finish line before the time is up. It would have been great if I'd gotten to eat the damn ice cream before I work up. No such luck.
and then you showed up just a little while later so I said this:
2. Hey - speak of the devil, there's Wonky!! Not that I think she is the devil or anything, but you know what I mean.
Ahh....technology...so confusing!
Oh yes, some facts:
1. I saw Wonky's picture. I think it was very nice. I thought about commenting in there and saying that she looked kinda like Toni Collette, a little bit, but then I thought, no I shouldn't say that, because Toni Collette is much older than Wonky and she might take offense to that. But I just said it anyway, so don't think that's a bad thing - Toni Collette is a purrrty lady & so is Wonky ;)
speaking of parties, I am having one tonight...... although I think that there will be no guests to speak of since it's valentines day and despite people SAYING they don't buy into it, they do and don't come to parties thrown by their friends so we can smash a human head pinata.
The sun is out today, and my blinds are open.
:lol: Mine, too!
1. One of our cats likes to sit in one of my plants. It's called a Goldfish plant, because it gets the bright orange blooms that are shaped sort of like goldfish... But Sammie keeps mutilating it by sticking her butt right on top of it.
2. She also likes to chew on my aloe-vera plant.
3. I've only got thes 2 plants in the house, because I've got a seriously BLACK thumb. Somehow, I'm still able to keep these 2 plants alive, even with all the sitting and chewing... :D
1. I got flowers for Valentine's Day!
Um, OK. Actually it was a single flower. A carnation. And it was from the guy at Jiffy Lube where I got my oil changed this afternoon--apparently all female customers were given flowers. But hey, ya takes what you can gets. :)
2. Ive been meaning to post for several pages (ever since the pronunciation-related posts) that I can't stand it when my friend, who has a Masters in English, for crying out loud, pronounces the word "Birthday" as "BirFday." It makes my teeth hurt to hear it pronunced that way.
1. Hubs made Valentine's day brunch today, complete with heart-shaped cinnamon pancakes.
2. I feel kind of bad, since I've pretty much locked myself in my craft-room to get some projects done (including Hubs' valentine's day card!), instead of spending the day with him.
Well, that would have been nice! Guess what I decided to do today?...teach my homebound student their 3 hours for the week...that's where I am now...at school...she's finishing up some math problems for our little mini lesson.
I saw some chocolate on the way to the bathroom, though...on one of my friend's desks but I left it alone...didn't want to steal and all...even if it is chocolate and even if I did tell my friend on Monday I stole her little snickers
I worked out last night from 10 to midnight and will probably do the same again tonight...only about 5 people at the gym last night...it ws nice
1. I have been having a serious problem trying to find CLEAR flat glass marbles lately. I usually buy them in Michael's, JoAnn Fabrics, or *gasp* Walmart, but for the past few months everytime I try to find some there are none! I am looking for the larger size - not the tiny ones. The closest I can find are the big ones that have an oil-like shimmer to them, so they aren't clear. Grrr.
1: me too!!!!!! all pearly now, no clear ones.. michael's, walmart, the loonie store..... sigh.... however, i found some that are only vaguely pearly.. almost completely clear... i placed them over several test subjects to see how they looked.. they're okay.... i'll send you some... :P
I have been eating the candy Megan recieved at her valentines party in parenting class, as I do not think a 2 year old needs to have suckers.
I let her have chocolate every once in a while because I am a weak mommy...evident by her being hopped up on M&M's when I went through the drive-thru.
He he I took Gwen's candy a put it in a jar, slapped a ribbon around it and gave it to my grandmother as a valentine. Gwen has to eat pureed foods, so I made a nice soft cake for her class so they could all get hopped up on sugar just like the other kids.
Some nice people brought Gwen a huge heart shaped mylar ballon and she is loving it.
Gwensdad came through and brought me a Baskin Robbins ice cream pie for valentines day. That was cute because I tell him the reason I married him is that the first thing he ever bought me was ice cream.
I'm the only one here...well, me and my tailless (not a word) kitty and my 2 dogs...kendra went to a friend's to spend the night after being gone all weekend and coming home today only to watch a movie and take a nap (she went on a church retreat this weekend)
1. i am wondering if FC's kitten's tail fell victim to a random sewing machine attack and that is why she is worried about paws now.
2. i should clean my house...i'm more comfortable when my house is clean..but then why should i worry about my own comfort all the time? it's a sign of moral fortitude that i refrain from wanton cleanliness!
3. nah, i don't buy it either.
"hahaha," says kitty
Actually, I don't know what happened to her tail...vet told me she was a ____ (I forgot the name) which is half bobcat but I don't think so...the area I found her in had a lot of them
She was a stray when I was teaching at a k-8 country school years ago...she kept jumping up on the window ledge of the 7th and 8th grade classroom and they were throwing pencils and wadded papers at her and knocking her off the ledge...I went and got her and gave her a drawer in my desk with some burlap...she slept all day in that drawer except when I fed her a school lunch...she's been with me ever since
ever since is a bit country...sorry
Looking back on this page of 3 random facts I realized I could just turn my computer off and talk to myself
Somehow, I still feel like someone out there is cyberspace is listening to me even though they are only reading (if they are reading what I write)
I'm wondering if people sign on and hate it when one person responds to '3 random facts' over and over
I assisted with a slumber party friday night that had sixteen ten and eleven year olds. I spent the evening doing emotional triage as they would randomly burst into sobbing fits because someone looked at them wrong.
It is in my nature to want to fix such things and solve the problem.
Until my patience runs out and I want to just call them big babies and tell them to get over it. I was quite proud I didn't let me get to that point.
This weekend I have almost done everything on my "TO DO" list...I never used "to do" lists, but I'm so loving them because they work...it's actually a "to do" journal
I got together and packaged 2 prizes for a couple of friends of mine (that played a guessing game I had), finished and packaged an altered tin, made 3 postcards, and 1 ATC...finished a circle journal and mailed it on it's way to a friend in a circle journal group I belong to
I also received a most incredible altered book on Friday and I am preparing to work in that (it was sent to me 5 months late and I was beginning to think my friend was not telling the truth about mailing it...I still don't know if she told the truth or not...she claimed it was kept in holding for a month due to CA fires and then returned to her and she remailed it and it was returned again...hmmmm...I'm not buying it)
Oh and another friend mailed a circle journal to me weeks ago but it never arrived...she's always prompt with them every month...she's been so upset that this one was lost
well, a second friend in Toledo said it turned up at her house this weekend
It had been repackaged by my friend in Chicago but it was in a box from Tower Records that was addressed to my friend in Toledo (she had used the box to mail to my friend in Chicago)...well, it was returned to Tower Records who hung on to it and then decided to send it back to my friend in Toledo
My other accidently drove acar over my leg when I was 2 and fell out of the car. I had so much baby fat that all I have is a tire mark on my inner right thigh to this day. My mother, however, is still recovering from the horror of having "run over her child".......... It's true and odd, I know. :huh:
My tongue has a horrible taste from licking envelopes the last 30 minutes.
I can't ski, snowboard, play basketball, play baseball, volleyball, hockey, gymnastics, dance.....but I can kinda swim.
1. I don't lick envies. I kinda wet my finger and do it that way. gross maybe but...
2. I once read this chain email, and yes I realize it's immpossible, but it really got to me. It was a story about a woman who had this terrible swelling of the tongue. The doctor's tried all sorts of meds but ended up having to perform surgery to see what was going on. As the doctor slices her tongue open with a scapel a cockroach crawls out. Seems she had a paper cut from licking envelopes and the glue was contaminated with roach eggs. Of course it's insane but the part about glue being super icky isn't. Anyway I'd lick my finger over funky glue any day.
3. and gusess who shows up? :wub:
I once told my mom that a guy I was bringing home for dinner didn't eat meat or vegetables because he didn't know for sure that plants didn't feel pain. She asked what in the world he ate and I said he only takes vitamins. She was very relieved when I told her I was joking.
I listed Dean Cain as my crush in the celebrity crush thread and lo and behold the Laci Peterson movie he's in was on TONIGHT.
Every night I go to bed, set my alarm for 7 and swear that I am going to get up and do my treadmill. And every morning I hit snooze until I hear Megan playing and talking in her crib.
1. I hate my mailman. Actually its a woman. She sometimes forgets to pick up outgoing mail--though I don't see how since its clipped to the very same place where she places incoming mail. Anyhoo. I had 10 Nervousness things to go out and now they won't go till Tuesday since Monday is a holiday. :yell:
-1- This reminds me: I was in the post office about a month ago, behind this very old man. It had snowed a lot that week, and he had put his mail out for the mail man to pick up. He wanted to know why they had brought him mail but not taken the mail that was outgoing, which included some bill payments. He asked very nicely, too-- it's not like he was freaking out. The post office lady was really rude to him, and said, "Your mail carrier is not required to take your mail. They can do it as a service, but it's not a requirement of the job." I think that&
