-i have an appointment with my counselor on thursday to prepare for an interview to work for the federal government this summer. not sure i want to do this. if i get the job i'll probably be going to DC for a few months and being horribly sad. if they offer a job in DC i'll reject it nicely, if they offer a job in norfolk then i'll accept it. another downside to that job offer is i'd have to shave, cut my hair, and be away from krystal all day. i doubt i'll accept it.
-i found out it takes almost a week to get mail to norway. great thing to learn on a tuesday morning.

1. i could use some advice/ideas on what to add to the thing i posted about just now in my 'i think i've got it' thread...

2. the program about wolves was very sobering. According to it, in the Algonquin population, 1/3 of that population dies/is killed each year, and the input rate back into the population (births of new pups...) is 21%. Thus, the population declines every year.

3. also according to that program - 40% of the Algonquin Park grounds allows hunting of some species (though, not of wolves).

-1- I hate the words "plump" and "moist." Commercials about meat generally gross me out by using those words.

-2- I miss JosieGellar. I wish she would come back to the forums and play with us. I was reading her LiveJournal, which hasn't been updated for a long time, and it was making me laugh so hard. She is a great writer.

-3- One of our librarians was very unprofessional, making snarky comments to people sitting around her, during the job candidate's presentation. That librarian annoys me.

2: 'let's eat some cheese after you put your socks on' would be fine too...

more things i learned from that show this morning (i guess these would apply to ontario, and i don't know where else)

1. moose, bear, deer, and even raccoon are among the species for which specific hunting licences are required.

2. all that is required to hunt wolves is a small game liscence. with said small game liscence wolves can be hunted year round, in any numbers.

3. it's relatively mild out today, snow is thawing...

I'm getting ready to throw something away because I tend to be a perfectionist and then it dawned on me that someone might want them

It is two, 8.5 X 11 pieces of transfer paper that have maps printed on them...one is a collage of maps and the other is just a map

The reason I am throwing them away is because I forgot to flip them in my printer so when they are transferred to fabric, they will be backwards...this will make me feel sideways and weird

Anyone????

I am sending cross continental hugs to Robyn. It makes me sad that she is upset. :(

My carpal tunnel is acting up. Ouch.

Tomorrow I get to go see a lawyer so he can tell me whether or not I have enough amunition to fire my horrible mess of an assistant. The reason I need to see a lawyer is because the board, suddenly, at the last minute, started wetting their panties about whether or not she can sue us. Since I was going to "review" her performance tomorrow, now I'm supposed to call in sick to avoid her and buy myself time. It's all a bit ridiculous.

2. Mistress Calliope Nicetush sounds really funny right now. And not in a perverted way.

3. I wish I would've named the kitten Mistress Calliope Nicetush right now, instead of Evie...

2. I think if I had an alter ego I would run out of things to post about!

3. I want to run away. Anyone want to come with me? Actually, I won't be running, I will be driving. ;)

Okay, where are we going??? It better be related to lunch, LOL.

1. My container of milk has vanished from the office fridge.

1. If I could go anywhere right now I think I would go to.... Hawaii! But I'm afraid to fly, so I will have to drive to California and then take a boat to the islands.

1. Please can I runaway with you all too? Its dark here. And ugly. And they don't like art. I feel so alooooooneeeeee.......!!!!!!!!!!

1. When I was little and lived in CA, we had to take a company trip to Catalina, a small island off the coast. I remember the boat ride was horrendous, rain, thunder, waves, etc. I remember standing up in my seat and calling up into the sky for the care bears to save us.

2. I went whale watching when I was younger, too.

-2- I had to indulge myself with some Peanut M&Ms because I have been so curious about how the black and white ones would look. It's sort of eerie.

-3- It must be 85 degrees in my office. I am sweating. Yuck.

1. A bus might be a good idea. I don't know how to drive a bus, and I doubt any of you do either. I think we might have to hire a bus driver. I'm thinking someone crazy along the lines of Chris Farley's bus driver character in Billy Madison. :P

2. I am intrigued by black & white M&Ms. Everytime I see them in a store I want to buy some, but I always talk myself out of it. Next time I see them I'm buying them dammit.

3. I'm hungry. We should get this road trip started soon. Oh, and Heather, bring your black & white M&Ms with you

2. So where are we going to go on this roadtrip? We could go to Portland to see Zeitgeist? Canada to say hey to Penny?

1: transplant assessment is coming up- beginning of march...

2: we are staying at a hotel there too.... i had wanted ronald mcdonald house, but they don't take advance bookings!!! they said that when we come we'd be able to be put on a waiting list and if a room opened up we'd be able to move into it and stay.... i used my veto on that- there is no way i am hauling harrisons 'shit' from one place to another, in toronto, a city i dont know, after staying a day or two at our 'other arrangement'.... so i asked if we can just stay at a hotel the whole time instead... no problem they said....

3: we don't get approved (or unapproved :o!!!) for funding until march 6th!!! i dont' know what we will do if we dont' get approved!!!!

4: bonus- my sister found out on monday that she HAS to take 9 days off before the end of march (govt job, not sure what the rules for that one are...) .... so i can breathe a sigh of relief that julian won't have to come (read that chasing a toddler around at a new place, hotel, hospitals, etc, while under the stress of the reason we are there would be bad for my mental health and quite possible his bum's well being...) ... not only that but they won't pay for his plane ticket anyhow, so that would be another... however much..... i told chris i dont' want to know or hear about any of the technical aspects.....

-1- I feel safer in big cities than I do in the middle of nowhere.

-2- I inherited that trait from my grandmother, who used to tell us that she'd rather break down on North Avenue at midnight than on Tick Neck Road.

-3- North Avenue is a long, long street in the middle of Baltimore, but it only goes through really horrible, scary neighborhoods. Tick Neck Road is in Pasadena, Maryland (home of anntabor (http://nervousness.org/forums/index.php?showuser=1280)) and was pretty damn rural, last I checked, which was in 1988 or so. (By now there are probably McMansions on that road, though, knowing "progress.")

Should not attempt them on the stairs.

-3- The Sagittarius horoscope from Free Will Astrology for the week beginning tomorrow: Back in the 1980s, an old pal of mine was a girlfriend of Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry. I'm hoping if he's elected in November, she'll arrange for me to get a tryout as his astrological advisor. Who knows? Maybe he already reads this column. You there, John? Here's my counsel for you and your fellow Sagittarians. As tempting as it might be to dramatize the differences between you and your competitors, your best bet in the short run is to be an emblem of unity. Don't let your powerful moral vision get bogged down in detailing what's wrong. Instead, be passionate about beauty and truth and justice. Strong women are the key to your next success. Ask more from them than ever before. And make sure that in the midst of your noble push to the frontier, you keep nourishing your roots.

-1- I don't even really know how I just came across this, but I was looking at a message board for people who are pro-anorexia. Ewwww! So disgusting. I really don't want to understand people like that.
1: there are hundreds out there.... literally... teenaged girls who are 'pro-ana' and make sites and post pictures of skeletal figures to compare themselves to... and tips on how to hide your disorder, and bulimia tips (seriously, can you beleive this??) and links to 'triggers' to help you to enable your disorder.... i did a LOT of research on it when i found out a friend's daughter was a member of one.... scary shit out there.

2: it was hard on me to research it becuase of the problems i had in high school... the pull to return to that is awesome- it breaks my heart to think of young impressionable girls doing that to themselves and ... i dont' know... culturing ... their sickness..... the 'triggers' are really very triggering....

3: i hop ethat anyone reading this who has an E.D. does not go searching for this shit... seriously....

1. That's scary stuff. I always worry that my little sister is going to develop some sort of eating disorder. She is already too skinny. She is about 5'2 and, I think, weighs under 110 pounds, yet she is all self conscious of herself and thinks she looks "too fat" in certain clothes. :(

2. I am a little bit miffed by something I learned today. Something Nervousness related <_<

3. Oh, Robyn, we are going to be a little bit later for dinner than expected tonight because we are on our way to pick up gwensmom! I think Veronica might need to come for a ride too! :) Wahooo...riding on the Nervous Bus - munching away on peanut M&Ms and pickles. Yay!

1. I know a girl at work who constantly says she's fat. The thing is that I am at least 30 pounds heavier. And she doesn't understand that I really am. She says I'm not.

2. The next time she says something, I'm going to yell at her, because talking/asking does nothing.

3. Hey, my thighs and I work hard to be the biggest and baddest out there, so she's gotta learn... :-P

1: it's a good thing the internet and that type of imagery wasnt' out there when i was a teenaged girl... it's so scary... i am glad i have boys, although e.d's ar rampant in teenaged boys now too!!!!!!

2: why is size 'large' called 'large'??? it is usually a size 13/14 when it is called 'large'!!!! "The average American woman is 5'4" tall and weighs 140 pounds." wouldn't that make the 'large' size normal- therefore medium??? hm... size-ist clothing companys suck ass!!!!!!!!!

3: when i went into walmart and saw tiny clothes marked s - m - l which are obviously really xxs - xs- s, i looked at my sister and said 'those are the cindy crawford large... as opposed to the kate moss small'....... <_<

food for thought... <no pun intended>

-Almost half of American children between first and third grades say they want to be thinner.
-Four out of five ten-year-old children are afraid of being fat.
-On any given day, one in four men are on a diet.
-Half of our nine and ten-year-old girls say that being on a diet makes them feel better about themselves.
-More than one out of three "normal dieters" progress to pathological dieting. One fourth of those will suffer from partial or full syndrome eating disorders.
-Americans spend over forty billion dollars a year on dieting and diet related products.
-Between five and ten million women and girls in the United States struggle with eating disorders and borderline conditions.
-One million boys and men struggle with eating disorders and borderline conditions.
-The number of people with eating disorders and borderline conditions is triple the number of people living with AIDS (664,921 people are living with AIDS).
-Eating disorders affect at least three times as many people as schizophrenia does (2.2 million people are living with schizophrenia).

1. On the other hand it's appalling how many obese children there are. Some people don't feed their children any healthy food at all so they never have a chance to be a "normal" size. :(

2. I think that might be where a lot those childhood eating disorders stem from. Kids see the fat kids in class being ridiculed so they fear that happening to themselves one day. So from then on they become obsessed with their weight. Sad.

3. Time for me to go home! Yay! (wait a minute. what am I saying? I am not in my cubicle at work right now. I'm in a fun bus full of cool people on our way to TN to pick up gwensmom!)

1. I like to go into Hot Topic and Gadzooks and ask the sales clerks that are size 0 who scowl at me "Do you have this in an extra small?"

1. eating disorders are so sad... both those where people eat way too little, and those where people eat way too much.

2. i've gone through it, to some extent... borderline...

3. i started reading 'beauty magazines' (the teenage ones) when i was in my early teens, and stopped by the time i was in my mid-teens because, as the song sunscreen says "do not read beauty magazines they will only make you feel ugly".

I used to shop at Lane Bryant when I was a size 12 to buy huge sweaters. When I was in a 14/16 I'd go in and the sales women would be saying how skinny my butt was.

1. When I was 14 I used to make myself throw-up so I could keep up eating with a friend of mine who was a binge eater (she never puked though).

2. My mom was such a food & diet natzi that I would drive to the store or fast food joint and pig-out in my car before I got back home. The most memorable was 1/2 of a layer cake.

3. I still pig out in secret.

2. I want something exciting and new to happen. I am sick of the same old day to day boring nothingness. I get restless way too easily.

3. I can't even remember the last time I traveled more than 60 miles away from my house. Wow. That's horrible. The last time I remember for sure was early last July when I went to Massachusetts with my mom and my sister to visit our relatives for a weekend. I can't remember even going on any day trips since then. :(

2) Whenever I want to use a smiley, be it here, on AIM, etc, I always find myself wishing I could use a deviant smileys

3) That's okay though. My new favorite smiley is: :spank:

Owning a sewing machine doesn't make me a good seamstress

I made my arms too narrow to stuff but I still think they look cute; however, it was my second attempt as I couldn't even get my first attempt inside out and had to rip it up and start all over :'(

1. The accident happened like this. I'm in the left lane of the highway, going fairly fast because the road is mostly cleared of ice. There's a car in the center preparing to cross my side of the highway to go off on a side road. I see him, and slow down a bit, but since he's not moving, I figure he's waiting for me to go by before going across. When I'm just a few yards from him, he pulls out and completely blocks my lane and stops there. I swerve around him on the right, run into a patch of ice, lose control, hit the guard rail on the side of the road, bounce back across the center into the oncoming traffic lanes, spinning all the while, and end up mostly on the median. The car that pulled out in front of me is of course long gone. It was very luck that I didn't run into any other cars.

2. I've got a big pile of nervousness mail that arrived while I was gone.

3. I'm going to Argentina in March.

Obviously I am very selfish today, but it is not intentional

I was more worried about posting my random facts about my art doll that I didn't respond to Tom's accident...it went right over my head

That sucks big time, Tom...it sounds like it could have turned out very badly if not fatal...I'm glad you were safe and hate that you have to pay 500 bucks to meet your deductible...oogie!

- Tom, you got extremely lucky on that one. I mean it.

- I've been in a similar accident, if less dramatic, 10 years ago. Made me respect even seemingly dry roads a lot more in the winter.

- Still, the insurance thing and the repairs... That's terrible to have to deal with.

I went to the dean today and explained it and he ripped up my detention slip and gave me a hug because I got all upset about Mandla again

1. Do people who have winter get their cars washed in the winter? Really, I'm naive on this whole entire winter thing...so if your car is covered in snow and slush all the time, what's the point? And if it is freezing, how do the car washes even work when since everything is frozen. So then, the people who work at the car wash, if it is closed in the winter, is it just a seasonal job? So, um, I got my car washed today, and had sometime to think.

2. How come in New Jersey you cannot pump your own gasoline?

3. Why, in an election year, would the current president speak out so vehemently against same sex marriages? Does he not realize that people who are for same sex marriages are more likely to actually go out and vote than those who are opposed to it?

Curlita

1. You can't pump your own gas in Oregon either. I don't question, I just sit my butt in the comfy seat and let them do it for me.

2. I guess I live where there is winter (mild winter) and I don't generally wash my car unless it gets really disreputable. If I lived somewhere with a lot of dirty slush and salt on the roads, I would probably get it washed more often. Then again, my car is more than 10 years old. The pressure to wash it and keep it hot-rod clean wore off about 9.5 years ago.

3. I'm leaving work now. I hope my husband has fixed something tasty for dinner. Something that might go with chocolate ice cream...

1. yes people do still wash their cars in winter (though, probably less often?... and i guess maybe some people don't...?), but it does sometimes cause water to freeze in the locks and that can be a little problematic...

2. he'd say that perhaps because he isn't very bright? hmm...

Actually, I think the reverse is true. Those who oppose this ARE the people who vote in this country -- sad, but the way it is, I think. The people managing Bush are not dumb.
