1. This is going to be one boring day. I am at work. I have around 30 coworkers, only about 8 or 9 of us are here today. I am quite sure I will have almost no work to do all day. More Nervousness time for me though. :)

2. I got the coolest craft cabinet for Christmas. Now I have a place to stash all of my Nervousness supplies since they have taken over my "dining room." I love my mom - she always gets me the best presents :)

3. I had lasagna for Christmas dinner. Another reason I love my mom :)

1. My husband shocked me with the most gorgeous, sexy victoria's secret nightgown for Christmas. The added bonus was that it actually looks good on me instead of emphasizing all my, um, padded places.

2. I am also at work. It is very quiet here today, but it's a nice chance to get caught up. And, um, play here.

2. Xmas went ok. My back aches from helping with dinner. I think I'm going to plan to be out of town for xmas next year...someplace warm where there is no family.

3. Yesterday I got to listen to my brother talk about guns. He loves guns. <_< I don't get it. I'm nothing like my family, especially my brother. You'd think that since we grew up in the same house we'd have something in common. I spent all of yesterday biting my tongue...

2. Christmas was actually not bad, but no matter where you put them, my family is dysfunctional.
3. I started laughing hysterically when my mother asked my husband if he'd read Flyboys, a book about a group of soldiers in WWII (I think) who basically all die expect one - George Bush, Sr. I don't know why it struck me funny. I think because my husband and I are not the kind of people who find it heroic and wondrous that he survived, while my mother is.

bonus 4: Picturing nymphette opening a present and shreiking about sock monkeys struck my as very funny...

1. I bought myself presents at Hastings today, art books...

2. Two of them are anatomy books, so I can draw people better. One is full of philosophy and beautiful photos of naked people. I love naked people, and wish there were more of them. The other has lots of proportions and practical stuff, which will probably help more in the long run.

3. Book #3 is about Celtic designs - I can do some basic knot things, but Hammerquill has inspired me to plunge forward.

hammerquill
12-26-2003, 10:28 PM
1. I'm glad people like my snowflake knot.

1.25 I have made a lot of snowflake knots, all, of course, unique, though I've been known to use photocopies and scans of the nicer ones.

1.5 I put them on Christmas cards.

1.75 I didn't send any Christmas cards this year, so I used one of my old ones here on this thread.

2. I first learned knotwork by studying Iain Bain's Celtic Knotwork, which is still in print from Dover.

2.25 It's better in its way than other books which teach you more programmatically. Others might be clearer, easier for beginners, but I think they lead you to too uniform a system.

2.5 People are often worried about making it 'work right,' and think that's the hard part; but there are really only two or three rules you have to follow in knotwork, and it all works out on its own, leaving you free to play with larger design elements.

2.75 That goes for other styles of interlace design, too - I'm working on training my mind to the Islamic styles, slowly.

3. I developed my own style of knots early, which looks more modern than medieval most of the time.

3.25 I wish I were better at making knotwork that actually resembles Celtic and Anglo-Saxon designs.

3.5 I also wish I were better at Celtic spirals and key and maze patterns, not to mention figural/representational knotwork (featuring lions and birds and people and such).

3.75 I've only done one really successful Celtic spiral design. On an ATC.

4. This makes it a baker's dozen of random facts for the price of four.

2. I think a very old friend of mine is maybe realizing he digs me, in a more-than-friends kind of way. But, since I've pretty much had a crush on him since i was 15, it's okay by me.

- I've seen "The Return of the King" yesterday. I could do a scene-by-scene appreciation, but that would be pointless.

- I'll just put it this way: I refuse to call it "The Lord of the Rings". That way I can't ~really~ get angry. ( )

- Considered on its own, all references aside (as much as I could make myself ignore the lip-service references to Tolkien), it wasn't even a good movie. <_<

1. I've never read any Tolkien, so I'm going to try to read The Hobbit in a week or so. I'm starting the "Librarian's Read Challenge" on the 1st, and I already have 2 stacks of books that I really want to read but I've been saving them for the challenge.

(1.5 Did that make any sense? I am so goddammed tired.)

1.75 All I can think about is sleeping. Cuddling up in my bed, wrapped up in my down comforter, mmmmmmmmzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

2. I'm supposed to go to The Foundation tonight with Eric. The Foundation (http://www.umkc.edu/labor-ed/kclh/10.htm) is a jazz club/bar that's been here since the early 1900's -- pretty much any jazz musician that's been in Kansas City (Charlie Parker, etc) has played there. But, it's an after-hours type place, which means shit doesn't start happening there til midnight at the absolute earliest, and the jam sessions go til 6 am. Anyway, I've never been, and Eric wants to jam, so we're s'posed to go tonight...looks like another late night for me!

3. I am rambling and my eyes won't properly focus. Okay, okay -- no more sleepy talk. Uh, .... uhm, okay. Got one! I just finished reading The Time-Traveler's Wife and I thought it was really, really good. A very well-written and interesting concept.

1) my step mother told me to take all of my (art) stuff out of 'her' dining room, while I was (quite obviously) in the middle of a project, so that she could sit on the floor in front of the woodstove (all of my stuff I was working on was on the table) <_<

2) thismorning at 8 or so I awoke to my dad crashing through my room (stepping on and breaking several things, I later found out. luckily he didn't break anything I was sending to nervousers) and then proceeded to watch him dig everything out from underneath my bed in search of one of my step-mother's cats, because it had puked. When I pointed out that scaring the life out of the poor cat wasn't going to make it stop vomiting, he called me a pissant. at the very least, it's the most creative thing he's called me in the past 16 years =/

3) I'm having a crummy day :(

1. Hugs, Isipid - tomorrow will be better.

2. I've always thought the expression "pissant" was hysterical - are they ants that piss copiously, or ants that are attracted to piss - either possibility makes me want to roll on the floor laughing. I'm glad I've never been insulted that way - my reaction might seem quite bizarre.

3. I'm feeling my attempts to simplify my life coming to fruition. The house is clean, the backlog of responsibilities is looking sensible again, and I've had a clear and happy day.

Ishba

2) it is hysterical, just not on four hours of sleep. That, and I've found that laughing at my father when he's trying to insult me is generally a bad idea

Ha, that's funny. I did think It was sort of a strange couple of facts to put together.

Now I have to think of three more facts.

1. My car is in the shop and I feel lost without it. Which is ridiculous when I think about it logically. I've always claimed no emotional attatchment to my car, but I guess I was wrong.

- I just had a long, long soak. I look like a cooked lobster, and that is good. :D

- I think I will make it an early night (relatively speaking - for me...) :P Hot water makes me so sleepy... -_-

- I don't get the turtle reference, although I feel like I should.

Three Random Facts. THREE not EIGHT NOT Six! Rebels! Aaarrrrggghhhh!

1. Saturday I went to the Grand Canyon. I left at 5:45am and got back at 8pm. Sunday I went to Sedona. I left at 6AM and got back at 7pm. I took strangers with me, thus I got paid to make both of those trips.

2. There are five pages of threads with posts since my last visit. Since I only have a couple of minutes, I will not get a chance to read them all. Anyone want to recap?

3. I drove 30 miles on ice and had my stomache in knots because I had ten strangers with me, saw three cars in ditches at the side of the road, and had to hide my fear because it was the first time I have driven on ice, and they sure didn't need to know that. I've driven in snow before, but not just sheer glide across the road ice.

1: it's been snowing off and on since saturday morning- and we've gotten (last time i heard) about 20 cm snow in total.... the drifts in our back yard are five feet tall and hte turnoff from our road to the highway to get into regina had three foot drifts on it yesterday- i had to drive on the wrong side of the road, almost in the ditch to get through!!!. it's stopped snowing like it was but we're going to get another cm in the next 24 hours.... i hate snow....

2: i pulled out the leftover hummus and guacamole and put it on the table with some pita chips.... i came in here to chain game for fifteen minutes.... the guacamole is all gone and julian has snarfed about half the bowl of hummus... little brat!!!! guess he was hungry though, he only had a piece of toast for breakfast....

3: chris and i are going on a date tonight.... dinner and a movie... if my patience lasts past dinner, that is.... i may not be up for sitting in a loud theatre with a bunch of kids talking and horsing around through the movie... not to mention not being able to pause when i have to pee!!!! ;) we may just rent and come home.... $9.00 for a movie, and i have to put up with chit chat through it??? i think not....

yes i am a grumpy old lady....

2: i don't enjoy movie theatres because of the noise, the crowd, the uncomfortable seats, how cold it is (and i never remeber to bring a sweater!!!) the expensive drinks/popcorn, the price of tickets...... on and on i could complain... bottom line- at home, after renting a movie for between 99 cents and $4.99, i can pop my popcorn, grab a drink out of the fridge, pause when i have to pee, rewind if i miss something becuase of someone talking, and ther eis never people behind me (yes i am paranoid)......

3: my husnband doesn't really understand why i don't like seeing movies out but he'll humor me about it becuse he doens't like my mood when we are finished at a theatre.... heh

1. Yes, I agree gwensmom. It's very quiet here without most of the "regulars" and I miss all of them! They are off having fun without us <_< ;)

2. On the other hand, in the past week or so there have been quite a few people who have started playing the chain games that didn't previously play them which makes me happy! Yay! :D I predict they will be addicted to chain gaming soon if they aren't already.

3. I was supposed to go see one of my most favorite bands in concert tonight, but I decided not to. I have realized that I am getting old.... now paying bills, getting up early to go to work tomorrow morning, and the safety of my ears have become priority over spending all of my extra money to go to a loud concert to see one of my favorite bands and have my ears ring & buzz for days afterwards. Ah, the joys of being a "grown up." -_-

I got a new beanie for christmas. A nice emily beanie with cats on it. It's a great gift cause I'd never buy it for myself, though I did want it. I already stuck a stellabella button on it. Rock.

Made ATC's last night- I even sewed one. Didn't go to bed until 1. I now need to find more things to do to whittle my day away. Probably clean my room.

1. I love seeing movies at the theater--the dark dark theater, the big screen, previews--yes, I love the previews--the sense of expectation in the theater. I love when something unexpected or fabulous happens and people clap and cheer, or jump from fright, I love people watching before the lights go out, I love the snacks when I can afford them, and the fun of sneaking stuff in when I can't.

2. Still, noisy kids/adults, idiots who not only answer, but then hold a conversation on their cell phones in the theater, and the outrageous cost going to the movies can bum me out.

3. I once seriously considered going to film school.

1> Update on my new doggy: Suki decided she was gonna chew up my guitar strap, and now I will be forced to steal *cough* borrow my brother Jacob's strap to practice with my band tonight.

2> I went to a flea market with my step-sister. She spent about $70 on clothes, shoes, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. stuff. I spent $7 on some pins (I got one that says "Cheer up Emo Kid" :D ) and some anime notebooks.

3> I have to cook. My mom left for Tennessee today to see my dad (they're divorced) about a family problem, and took my older brother James with her. So I had to cook for my brother Jacob and my step-sister Jasmine. (Her dad was married to my mom, too, but he left the family, and my mom got custody of her.) I decided to order pizza and tell Mom I cooked.

I chose a bowl that was too small to pick in, and instead of transfering it to a larger bowl I just tried to mix very carefully to try not to knock any over the sides. 2. A helicopter has been circling the neighborhood since last night  It's loud and distracting. Have I done something wrong? Do they want to take me away? Maybe my mother sent them to spy on me.

She actually just wanted to stop by, wake us up and make us feel guilty and bitch at us for any reason she could think of. I don't know how this happened. She calls an average of 3 times a day. 2. Amid all the holiday hubbub, I ended up spending 2 days at the doctor's office... adding one more bizarre neurogical disorder to my list of medical oddities. And the drugs they use to treat my particular medical weirdness scare the bejezus out of me. I can't decide whether to endure the symptoms or take the drugs...

2. One of my friends is desparetly tring to fix my little sister up with one of her friends. I'm not sure how I feel about all this. He's a nice guy and all, but
a. my friend doesn't know my sister very well
b. why the sudden interest in hooking them up?
c. I've kind of thought for a while that my friend (who's married) was sort of interested in her friend.... maybe this is a way to relieve the temptation?

How did 3 random facts end up halfway down page 2???

1. Today was Trash Pickup Day in my subdivision. I came home this evening to find that one of my oh-so-considerate neighbors had put a large cardboard box full of styrofoam peanuts (unsealed, mind you) out with their garbage. It was terribly windy today, and said box blew into our front yard, and it's contents scattered at least 3 houses down. My front yard is now, quite literally, covered in a few hundred white foam peanuts. It almost looks like it's snowed in several places....

2. It's just too damn cold out tonight to get out there and pick all that mess up! I ought to track down that neighbor and make them clean up their garbage...

1. I wish I was eating dinner with nymphette and her kids. I think we're having sandwiches for dinner, since tonight is grocery-store-trip night for hubby (and he does all the cooking!)

2. on a lighter note from my previous post: For Christmas, Santa brought our cats some new kitty toys, one of which is a toy mouse on a bungee cord, that's attached to a bracket that clamps to the top of a door. Unfortunatly, the bracket is too wide to put on a door that actually closes (!?!?!), so we attached it to our laundry-room/kitty-potty-room door, which is always open. The one kitty who constantly plays with the toy frequently bounces the bungee with such force that the mouse gets lodged over the top of the door, and she comes crying for one of us to get it back down for her. Last night, I heard a big comotion coming from the vicinity of the laundry room, so I went to investigate. Apparently, Sammie figured out that if she jumped on top of her litter box and onto the washing machine, she could then jump on top of the open door and retrieve her mouse. Unfortunatly, after the mouse retrieval was completed, she couldn't figure out how to get down without hurting herself. I'm not tall enough to reach up and grab her, and she won't jump down into my arms, so I have to hunt through the house for the step ladder (which, of course, was not in the closet where it was supposed to be!) to get her down...

3. I realized today that hubby and I have now officially made it through FOUR family holiday get-togethers without ANYONE asking when we're having kids. Have they finally figured out that it's just not going to happen? I think a more likely answer is that they've all be abducted by aliens and replaced with non-grandchild-wanting clones....

1. Nice frames are easy for Insipid to make; Tom is frightened of anything more substantial than 80# card stock.

2. Despite being tired, I took a long walk in snow-covered mountains today. Now I'm more tired, but in a colder, whiter, sort of way.

3. I did two of the things I said I would do today. Not bad.

1. It snowed furiously for 7 hours today, great fat wet white flakes that blew every which way like the city was trapped under a snow globe. Oddly enough, the snow didn't stick at all.

2. I saw Cold Mountain today and was impressed by how closely the movie version stuck to the book. Even though I disliked the ending of the book, I would have disliked the movie more had they given it a happy sappy hollywood ending.

3. Ah . . . the new year. I need new wall calendar.

1. Birthdays, New Year's and any other time that causes me to reflect on my life put me in a bad mood.

2. I spent all morning at a sale in a fabric store yesterday.

3. I don't want to go back to work Monday. Usually by this time I am dying to get out of the house. Could it be that this year I have fun nervous things to do at home? :)

1) I'm getting back into the nervousness programs

2) I'm starting to feel sick from not writing (make sense?!)

3) I'm anticipating returning to St.John's... right now I'm in churchill Falls, my home town, and getting rather bored out of my bloody wits! Argh! lol :)

Hugs,

1. I have had my 2004 calendars hanging behind the 2033 ones since October. Even though I don't consider myself superstitious every time I try to change the calendar early I hear my mother say"It's bad luck to change a calender early."

2. I went out to buy my Valentine's cards on Wednesday and the two stores I stopped at didn't have them out yet. They had the decorations, but not the cards.

3. I have put up my Valentine's Day decorations....

1: one week until harrison's first birthday!!! yay!!! i told my mom i wanted to make a big thing out of it for him... okay, for me... but anyhow....

2: julian called 911 at my mom's last night... <sigh> well, actually 91111111 was on the phone when i found him.. we were eating supper and julian was upstairs playing tonka roadway on t he computer... and then he calls downstair 'mommy!!! julian talk to lady!!!!' and i thought 'oh crap, he pressed speed dial and he's talking to my aunt/sister/grandmother/whatever'..... and i went up and saw the numbers on the phone and my heart just dropped into my stomach... and i took the phone from him and apologized and told her i dont' know how he called it (he's 3 and has never been taught the whole 911 thing!! forJUST that reason!!!) and it isn't programmed on the phone... she said 'that's okay, we haven't forwarded the call yet, so it's allright'..... i asked him 'why did you call 911???' and he said 'julian need help, computer game, julian call 911'.............................. apparently, ther is another game (or that one??) that ha a 911 button at the bottom of the game you press when you need help.... logically, he thought that if he called 911, they could help him out.... right..... he wont' be doing that again soon........... YIKES!!!

2: julian is too smart... usually too smart for his own good.. ;)

3: today for lunch, julian asked for ham, a banana and some peanuts... what the heck i said... at least he's asking for meat, he usually doesn't... if it wasnt' for chris, we'd be a vegetarian household.... but if ihave to cook it i may as well eat it i guess.... <shrug> julian and i could live happily without.. and harrison, if he ever starts to eat by mouth, can't have protein, so......

2: i just remembered that in kindergarten, we used to have to bring an old long sleeved dress shirt of our dad's and put it on backwards when we painted... that was our smock back then for arts and crafts... :)

3: i am wondering why i haven't progressed further than a kindergarten level for sophistication of my choice of clothing when i paint... it bears further examination, i think!!!

1. Oh my gosh, Medeous! How miserable. Be well.

2. I'd completely forgotten the backwards dad's shirt thing until Nymphette mentioned it.

3. I was always a very literal child - bewildered at why the shirt had to be my father's and fearing what might happen to the painting if someone's else shirt were used instead.

1. On Christmas Eve, Nicolas and I told his family that we were going to have a baby. We thought that we were going to surprise everyone. Well, it turns out that everyone was equally surprised (including us) because...

2. Out of the 6 women who were at the party, 3 of us were pregnant and we waited until December 24 to tell the others!!! Needless to say that we talked about babies all night long! Next year there will be 3 new babies for Christmas! They'll all be the same age so they'll probably play together in a couple of years!

3. Nicolas' dad did some trick with a needle, and he said that Nicolas and I were going to have a girl, Karine (my boyfriend's younger sister) was going to have another daughter with her "new" boyfriend Yvan, and Carl (my boyfriend's "cousin" - long story) and Marie-Claude were going to have a boy. I wonder if he's right!
