*sigh*

I have this beautiful, artistic, talented, glorious friend. At the end of January she signed onto the nervousness forums and was lurking around, planning to get involved in some forums projects once things in her life had "settled down." She PMed me just yesterday from here while she was scouting posts and looking at projects.

This afternoon, while she and her dad were picking up her little boy from school, they were in a bad car wreck and her arm got smashed up really bad. I think she broke two bones and she has to have surgery tomorrow. Her dad, who was already having health problems, broke some ribs. Her son, thankfully, wasn't hurt.

Anyway... instead of poking around nervousness, she's in the hospital in a lot of pain with a badly broken arm. And this is on top of a lot of other, really sh*tty stuff that's happened over the past year. I'd really like to cheer her up, as it's going to take her a long time to heal. I hope she doesn't kill me for writing all this and embarrassing her. But anyway, long story short, if you want to send a get well card to her, PM me and I'll give you the address.

Josie

Thanks for all the PMs & e-mails, guys. You're the best.

An update on my friend... She came home from the hospital Saturday. The surgery went well but it took much longer than expected because the bones were crushed in places. So she's home recovering with metal pins in her arm, and she has to keep it elevated or else it swells up like a bear claw. They're talking three months of recovery. She and her dad are both in a lot of pain but they are supposed to get well.

Her mom -- who is pictured with me in Sirius' cheese/monkey LMAO (http://nervousness.org/images/uploaded/josiegellar_135754.jpg)-- is home from work taking care of them for a few days and it's been hard on them all. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, much less on my good friends. I appreciate everybody who volunteered to send mail and hope it will brighten their day. One piece of good news -- the cops initially told them the woman who hit them didn't have insurance (!!!) but apparently they were mistaken. So things may start to get a lot better after today. Keep your fingers crossed.

Love,
Jo

A bucket of mail arrived at Jen's house today! She called to gush about how she'd been in a lot of pain for the past couple of days, and how great you all are and totally made her day. She read all your messages to me over the phone and just could not believe complete strangers would be that sweet.

You guys are the greatest in the whole wide world.

Funny you should mention this... yesterday I got back the package I had sent. I foolishly tried to send candy across the border, and apparently they put a stop to that at Christmas. From what I understand, now it's okay to send homemade goodies but not store-bought. Argh!

Anyway, I'll repackage and send off shortly... without the candy. Boo.

What?! No candy?! I sent Christine Jelly Bellies at Christmas -- maybe I got it just under the wire? (Or does it not work both ways?) That's insane. How sweet of you to do that. *hugs*

I believe Canada can still receive goodies but the U.S. can't. I got a small, friendly warning from the postal ladies around xmas when I sent out a bunch of weird envelopes and packages. ;)

Maybe we just shouldn't SAY there's candy around. I mean, what's the greater evil, foreign candy from someone you trust or sugar withdrawl???
