View Full Version : A new idea

This idea is inspired by Random Acts of Kindness everywhere, including girl-who-loves-sharks' RAK club (see her post signature), and my Random Acts of Charity thread... I think I'm just obsessed with RAKs at the mo'...

It has no end date. It starts now, if there's any interest. Pre-newbies welcome.

The idea is:

decorate some piece of paper (handmake a postcard, alter or make a business card, or random piece of cardstock or anything you can make interesting)...

On that pretty piece of paper, write instructions for a Random Act of Kindness or Charity for the recipient to complete.

Choose any active Nervouser and send it off to them. You may do more than one and send 'em off to various Nervousers if you want.

The HOPE is that:

a) it will arrive and not get lost in the post
B) the recipient will complete the RAK task assignment
c) the recipient will contact me (by replying here, by PM, or Q&A, or by letting the person they recieve from know and the person they recieve from letting me know), so I can document the project's process - who sends, to whom, who recieves, who completes the task suggested to them, and who reciprocates by then sending off a note to a random nervouser of their choice with a RAK instructions...)
d) that those who recieve RAK instructions from someone will not only complete the task given, but will come up with a task of their own and send a decorated instruction paper/postcard to another random nervouser of their choice...

I hope that everyone will contact me to allow for documentation, but even if not, I hope this will continue for some time.

Also, I'm interested if you do recieve something from someone for this project, and you for whatever reason can't complete the task sent to you (ie. you were asked to donate $10 somewhere but you can't afford to), but you choose to do something else instead...

so, who's up for it? If ya are, just "sign up" by posting or PMing me, LMK who you're going to RAK...

I'm also curious to keep track of the tasks that people come up with... (some ideas can be found on the RAO Charity thread, and you can come up with your own from the inspirations there)...

I am interested, but I have too much going on in the next few weeks to do it before the new year. But it's an awesome idea, Alison!

I will mention this thread (w/link) in the RAOK Club newsletter, if you want. LMK.

you can of course include these in with other mail you're sending anyway, rather than sending things out specially. (just thought i'd add that in case anyone wasn't sure).

i'm sending out a total of 4 so far...

Maybe you should post a different RAK assignment here everyday, and then people can just participate in it...?

Imagine my surprise, receiving an envie full of neat little bits and goodies! My assignment was to volunteer for a couple of hours or more at a local soup kitchen or food bank, helping serve food or stock shelves or the like...

and coincidentally, the very day I received this RAK, I was helping set up for our company's community dinner. So I consider my mission accomplished!

After Christmas, I will send out a couple of these missions and see what kind of response we get.

Thanks Alison! :D And Merry Christmas!!!!

So, if you've received for this project, and have been directed to this thread for that reason, then what I want to know for my documentation is:

your username

username of who you received from

the task you were assigned

whether you completed that task or not

if you completed a similar alternate task instead, let me know what you did

username(s) of who you then sent/will send task RAKs to (if you aren't continuing the chain, let me know)

any comments you have about the project (optional)

Note: if you receive one from me, and choose to continue the chain by sending on to someone else, you can directly copy the text i've written, or alter the wording as needed, so long as the instructions remain the same (you can't change things, the only different instruction is the specific task you give to someone).

In what you type/write on yours, refer people back to this thread, by giving the link. That is:

http://nervousness.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7104

give the information I want by posting here, or PM'ing, or emailing me.
