In the spirit of all that is good, I must tell you about my friend Vanessa. Vanessa and I have been friends for over 15 years. I met her while I was in high school at a hockey game and we instantly became best buddies (mainly because of our insatiable crush on hockey players).
Anyway, she is the absolute greatest, and I honestly can’t think of a better person. She has been there for me anytime I needed her (no matter how insignificant and I am an admitted drama queen- so that is a lot of times).
Over the years (mostly the past 5), Vanessa has become all but a hermit. She only left her house to go to work. During this time she also gained a lot of weight (which only made her more withdrawn). She has been so down on herself that I think she has forgotten what a fantastic person she is.
Last March she had gastro-intestinal bypass surgery, mainly for health reasons. Her heart couldn’t take the extra weight she had put on. In July and again in September I went to visit her. I could not believe the change. Not only has she lost an entire person worth of weight, but she is going out and actually enjoying life.
Also during the summer, she met someone. I was able to meet him while I was there in September, and he is absolutely perfect for her. I have never seen her so happy. She contacted me this morning to tell me they had gotten married. All of this in 8 months! I can only say, “WOW”.
The point of my story (I think there is one somewhere).. is that I think it would be great for her to get tons of wedding cards in the mail. If anyone deserves it, it is her. So I am asking you (in a non-begging kind of way) to send her well wishes.
