I actually posted this in member matters under my post but decided that I would like to make this an official cry for help.

As many of your know California is suffering a devastating blow because of all the damage caused by the wildfires and San Diego is one of the biggest hit places. I have volunteered at a shelter and have donated some things but will be donating more, and so I ask you for help. Over 1800 families have lost their homes and the number rises everyday. This is Day 5 of Firestorm 2003 as they are calling it and the San Diego victims need help.

My company is actually gathering things for the victims and will be doing so for the next few weeks. However on the weekends I can drop things off at the evacuation shelters as well as the Red Cross. Here is a list of things they need in no certain order:

* money (must be in check form)
* clothes for all ages
* books and toys
* blankets and pillows
* combs and brushes
* personal hygiene products (including tampons, deoderant, mouth wash, etc)
* visine and eyewash
* chapstick/lipbalm
* dust masks
* baby wipes
* baby and adult diapers

Please Note:
All hygiene products must be in the original package. No money please unless they are checks. They only want checks. If anyone does want to send money the checks have to be made out to American Red Cross Southern California Wildfires. In the memo part please write San Diego victims.

I can't send anything back to you, but I will also include a card or something with the names of everyone who helps and donates and I will see if maybe I can ask my company or the shelters for like a confirmation slip or thank you or something.

If you do wish to help please email me at strangelittlegirl@sherunsaway.org so that I can watch the mail. At this time the postal service is closed. It should be open either Saturday (november 1 or Monday november 3).

Thank you in advance,
Lissi

Two more cents: If you don't have checks and want to make a local cash donation the Costco stores are collecting -- atleast here in Arizona.

Thank you for the update! I didn't know that. My company actually takes cash and I could easily donate it as well, but i thought everyone would be more comfortable with checks. But the American Cross itself only wants checks. At least that's why they said on the news =)

I think most people are more comfy with checks if they are sending them to you, but actually there are more people in the world than you would realize that do not have checking accounts -- my 34 year old brother is one (it baffled me at first, how does he pay his bills?) that's why I thought an option might be helpful. Any way that anyone can help....

I understand that. I am actually one that does not have a checking account. For multiple reasons. My fiance does but I do not have or want access. =) But thank you again =)
