Anyone had any experience with swollen and painful lymph nodes?
Totally hypothetical random question of course. :(

I have mono. My doctor prescribed me steroids for swollen glands. I'm feeling blucky.

That means you're fighting off something relatively nasty. See your doctor.

saw the doctor
he gave me antibiotics to take for three weeks and told me to take aleve for the pain (for three weeks? no wonder people get addicted to pain killers)
four weeks later, nothing has changed
went to another doctor, suggested I wait and see, and ahem, take an otc painkiller....
frustrated with the medical field, was thinking maybe someone had had a similar experience and had a suggestion or two....

Yeah, I had mono 3 years ago and then my lymph nodes got big and painful. Then they stopped being painful and slowly went away. But, 2 never went away and I've gone to the doctor a few times to have it checked out, had my blood tested and everything and the doctor says it's ok. So, I don't think I've helped you at all, but that's my story.

No, when it comes to medical maladies I advise everone else to seek medical attention, but on a personally level go with the ignore it and it will go away theory.
