tell us your score :)
i took it and got "You are definitely a woman!"
How do we know? Well, deep down, your gender affects everything about you, from your favorite number to your views on Canada. Many women who took the test think and act just like you, as you can see from the clusters above.
Statistically speaking, you are a chick."

Took this for the second time and came out as a man, just as I thought. This amusing, fun quiz' questions are based on popular-psychology 'facts', or rather I should say myths?
Let's not forget that your gender has nothing to do with your genitals! There's the biological sex (is there such a thing? We can question that as well) and there's the culturally dependent gender, which is nothing but performance.
...and thanks to Judith Butler for the distinction.
Definately a chick here too. wheee!

by gosh, I am a guy! I guess I get to keep the beard, then.
I'd love to see the formulas behind that and the weight they give to certain questions, which ones overrule others, etc. On some I knew for sure which camp I was being put in by my answer (not always male). And some were really interesting questions. And some were just funny.

AHHHH!! the silly test doesn't even care what you answer for the other 49 questions.. its all about #47! Stop and think about your middle name for a second. Does it end with a vowel?!! answer yes and you're a woman. answer no and you're a man. try it! i went from being 80% woman to 80% man by changing my answer to that one question. this was realized thanks to my genius friend jeff.

I second hammerquill's comments. I know I answered some questions with the stereotypically "male" answer.
I'm almost kind of annoyed that they knew I was a woman, I think because I hate to imagine that ANY of us are so predictable based on our gender. Hurrumph.
That said, I'm totally addicted to bizarre internet quizzes. How else do you find out that if you were a dog, you'd be a Bernese Mountain dog, or that Sting is your pop start soulmate???

;) I'm almost kind of annoyed at how !@$%*! addictive those quizzes are, given, well, how inherently dumb most are (I mean, how many questions do I need to answer to know that I'm Giles and my ideal date is Willow, or that, when it comes to LOTR, I'm a Purist?). thespark's are a lot more interesting, and smarter(by which I don't just mean more accurate), than most. Curse you, Trinity, for finding a new way to waste the day! ;)

What's funniest about this one is that it's got such a large, but oddly selected group.
Once again, for me, it would have gotten a more accurate answer if it had quit after the first question or three: since I actually said there were some bad things that were bad (I guess) it somehow got the idea that I wasn't an absolute atheist, though I am, and a lot of other answers should have made that obvious. So it has Unitarian Universalist first, and only got to Non-Theist at about #5.
I don't know, I bet many firm believers, especially of the big three monotheistic religions, would find it kinda insulting that someone like me who repeatedly answered that there's no God or supernatural of any kind nonetheless was rated as having a positive (though small) possibility of being a believing Muslim or a Catholic or an Orthodox Jew or whatever... I'm sure my grandfather (a devout Episcopalian) would find it bizarre, and I think my two devout Muslim friends would find it a bit outrageous.

The top score on the list below represents the faith that Belief-O-Matic, in its less than infinite wisdom, thinks most closely matches your beliefs. However, even a score of 100% does not mean that your views are all shared by this faith, or vice versa.
Belief-O-Matic then lists another 26 faiths in order of how much they have in common with your professed beliefs. The higher a faith appears on this list, the more closely it aligns with your thinking.

I've been trying to answer the first two questions for the past 10 minutes and realised this : I no longer know *what* I believe in. I've been going through a major upheaval in my beliefs, and this is forcing me to face the fact that I'm still drifting in a kind of formless creed soup... (sigh) None of the proposed answers really suited me.
For better or for worse, here are my results :

4. Bahá'í Faith (72%)

I'll simply note that I, too, was raised a Roman Catholic, baptised & confirmed... was an altar servant... read texts in church... sang in the choir... even gave out communion!!! I no longer believe everything they teach, or go to church anymore except on special occasions for that matter, but I wonder if there's something in the teachings that produces this reaction in people?

not taking the belief one, don't believe anything religiously. seriously....... i did take it and answered none of the above and not applicable on all and i turned out 100 percent bull crap on a lot of things i havent even heard of.
try this one, very interesting........ since everyone has moved to beliefs now.test your beliefs to see if you are consistent in them or if you contradict yourself.

Not really. Christianity is still an avengalist religion. While not every sect recruits people and the inquisition is long gone, joining the Baphtist church, for example, is way easier than getting a high-school diploma.

I'm on the odd border between man and woman. And at least my equipment is female. But it doesn't surprise me. anotehr test told me I was a bigger bastard than a bitch.
anyway. That belief-o-matic, while fun, was a touch uncomfortable. here's what I got. I don't know what Reform Judaism is, but Pagan- sure, makes snese.

I took this a few years ago, but forgot exactly how it came out, so I took it again. I am definitely as woman! (86% confidence).
And yes, gender is a different concept from sex. I like to think of myself as having "gender versatility". :)
Hammerquill, I'm pretty sure the thing works from a learning algorithm. At first, it has no information about what the "male" and "female" answer to each question is. But as people take the test, it accumulates statistics. Once it has correlation coefficients betweens answers and genders, it can then infer probable gender from answers.

i just thought i'd throw in my ranty rant
because gender roles are socially constructed, tests like these can be written and be fairly accurate - assuming that we have learned our "gender." if we have accepted our gender role, we probably answer questions like these in predictable and stereotypical ways. this has nothing to do with sex, which i know someone mentioned before; it's all about statistics and the assumption that feminine and masculine traits belong, respectively, to women and men. outside of whereever this test was written, it probably would become less accurate since different cultures have different ideas about gender roles.
besides, if you looked at the little bar underneath the standing figure (my figure was a female body with a man's head, i think), it shows a continuum (which is what gender really is, if you ask me) and it shows how far over onto one side you are (based on this particular test, mind you). i was really close to the middle, which means that i did not answer most of the questions the way other women did (according to the test, anyway), but i was still on the "feminine" side of the continuum. based on that they said that i'm a woman.
okay, i'm done

Tom's right about how the test works--millions of test-takers have established the gender "norms" by revealing their real gender after answering all the questions. Like most Net stuff, it's heavily weighted toward certain cultures; but if all cultures could take it equally, the internal defining data for "male" and "female' would change to reflect the responses given by takers who identified themselves as "male" and "female." Gender IS a social construct as this test defines it, but could the test be taken by everyone in the world, it would come up with some sort of a conglomerate gender concept reflecting the most typical answers for men and the most typical answers for women.
I haven't taken it for a long time, but I was 85% male when I did. (I'm not).
It's also been a while since I took the belief-o-matic, but it did get my own religion correct. Some oddities followed in the list, but I found it interesting to see what came up, as it indicated that my belief system had more in common with those belief systems than I might have thought. That's how I saw it, anyway. Say I ended up with a rating of 60% for some religion I thought was weird, strange, way off base, totally different from my belief system, a bunch of cultist freaks. Maybe, the test suggests, just maybe--I have more in common than I think. Maybe my perception of them is...less than accurate. Maybe I'm even prejudiced--negatively judging an entire group based on limited and perhaps even indirect experience. Maybe a person can't understand Mormons by watching _Orgasmo_ or pagans by reading the pamphlets next to her pastor's office door.
As for proselyting...I guess someone could see it as ramming stuff down one's throat. Evelyn, the elderly JW who visits me regularly, is a really nice woman, actually. I quite like her. I don't much care for the beliefs of her church as described on its own website, but she's sweet, and someone's grandmother and I don't mind talking to her for a few minutes every couple of months. She seems far less intolerant than a lot of people who talk a lot about tolerance. It always interests me how often tolerance talk is coupled with criticism (sometimes mild, sometimes bordering on vilification) of people or groups judged by someone to be intolerant. Sometimes it seems tolerance means accepting only a certain group of people or ideas, rather than being tolerant of them all. In the holy land of diversity where we all are accepting and tolerant...do we have a separate room where we send Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons, much as mainstream Christianity has historically had for pagans and Jews?
It's kind of interesting to think about. I think sometimes that rather than become more tolerant, we've just turned the tables a bit.

....
Let's not forget that your gender has nothing to do with your genitals! There's the biological sex (is there such a thing? We can question that as well) and there's the culturally dependent gender, which is nothing but performance.
...and thanks to Judith Butler for the distinction.
Indeed!
Thanks to you nukke for that reminder! :D
